[MAJOR CRASH] Graphics Driver Crash Error since 1/3/19 update

Reyoness shared this bug 18 months ago
Solved

Hello. Since the update today, Myself and everyone on my server are constantly crashing out every 5 - 10 minutes with the warning message that our Graphics drivers have crashed due to overheating/overclocking and what not (When all our card temps and general health is fine). We all have been playing since the big release with no issue on this server until today's update.

I have the same issue, 1080ti capped at 60fps, so it is not the graphics card. Was fine prior to the patch.

photo
4

this may also be on nvidias end since i got this problem as soon as i updated the drivers

photo
4

3 of us all on nvidias latest drives 419.17

1080ti crashes around 20mins

1070 does not crash at all (is the host pc)

1060 crashes after a couple of minutes

photo
4

Me and a few friends are also having this issue. Setting things to medium helps but it still crashes at times. i collected a few logs and ordered them. Here they are in a zip file

photo

6 of us on a private dedicated server are experiencing this crashing issue after updating to the recent update. (All nvidia gpus)

Seems to be a rendering bug from the log

Having similar problems.

Started a server with friends 27/02/19, crashing started after the 01/03/19 update. Was running fine up until then, but now it's persistently CTD'ing after circa 5-10min in-game and blaming my GPU.

EDIT: Spelling

photo

I have the same crashing issues since yesterday. Good to know that i am not the only one. Running a MSI GTX 970

photo
2

Having the same issue, and at least 3 friends reported this crash as well.

Before the last hotfix, this wasn't happening.

photo
3

Yeah this issue is driving me crazy. About 50+ of these crashes this weekend since the update. Can we roll back a version please?

photo
3

Me and 6 friends are ALL having this issue since the survival update. All on latest nvidia drivers as far as I know (419.17)

Dmp and log files + dxdiag in .rar file.

photo
1

In case you cant read .rar files

photo
photo
1

Also updated drivers. Same issue. This has been going on since yesterdays update. Over 900 hours played and first time seeing this bug. Crash happens to EVERYONE on my dedi server at the same time

photo
2

Same issue, CTD every few minutes. I've tried deleting the shader cache folders, uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, clean install of the game and verifying files but nothing has helped.

photo
2

Same here. The Card runs fine at 45-50°C (1050ti)

But its still crashes for all 6 of us (Only in MP)

photo
2

Yes, this is what i have also experienced. I wanted to get my friends into Space Engineers and this is the bug they were experiencing.

Sadly I don't think it's going to be easy now to convince them to come back even if it does get fixed. Which is a shame, I was really enjoying this game. Don't worry I'll keep trying (well once this is fixed)

I do think the wording for the bug popup was a bit misleading. No GPU was above 70C and we were all on the laster NVIDIA drivers (as of Sat 2nd March 19).

Looking forward to seeing this fixed before I buy

same for me... 3 crashes just today

photo
photo

Heard of lots of people having this problem on our server discord. I've had similar issues myself, although in that case the GPU temps reached 80 C...

photo
1

So, it takes a good 5 minutes AT LEAST off peak and upto 30minutes at busy times to actually get onto a server because there is only 16 slots (which isnt a problem really) but when I crash 5+ a day then to wait to log back in it gets a little frustrating.... Any response???

photo

RTX 2080, I had quite the laugh when it said it was overheating. The bloody thing is water cooled!

photo

Hi guys,

thanks for your reports. We are working on it.

Have a dedicated server.

It keeps on crashing with with this error at random intervals. all from 2 minutes to 2 hours

Happens to all people i'm playing with, Different cards.

I have GXT 690. The others (that I know of) have GTX 690, 1050, 1060 and 1080.

Same error for all of us at totally random intervals.

photo
2

Hi Phyrino,

new hotfix 1.189.041 should help. Please let us know if it is ok or not.

Kind Regards

Ondřej Nahálka, QA Lead

photo
1

It worked for a while.

after 1h and 20 minutes I got that the program was not responding and then the same error message and crash to desktop.

photo
1

Played another hour and a half with no crashes.

The two I played with today suffered no crashes. So it seems to be (mostly) fixed.

photo
1

Had this issue once before 1.189.041 (lucky me I guess)

After patch, my first time joining server the graphics card freezes my entire computer.... so I guess... worse?

photo
1

Played the majority of the evening yesterday after the hotfix without a single crash or issue. Gonna give it another session before I give it a verdict just to be a bit more certain.

photo
1

Today I had one crash after 10 minutes and one after 90 minutes.

photo
2

This is likely not actually a gfx crash. I was getting this kind of crash report when testing a mod. In MY case it turned out I had a bad copy/paste in my planet file that removed a < from the middle of the file. Why this translated into a gfx crash is likely because the process that depended on that file loading is where the crash happened, when it should have occured in the object serializer.

photo
1

I am still having this issue. Once it happens a single time it then happens within a few seconds of running a game.

photo
photo
1

It didn't feel like a graphic error to us.

But the server we are running is a vanilla.

no mods, no experimental mode.

But it seems to be fixed.

no crashes for the last two days.

Well done Keen!

photo
1

I Still have this Issue together with a Friend. Im running a GTX 760Ti with newest drivers. Even did a fresh install. Im also underclocking it and not even reaching 80 Degrees. A friend of mine is having the same problem

photo
1

Do you play with mods? If so, try to play without a bit. Just to make sure it's not one of them that's messing with you.

now I play without experimental mode. Just to troubleshoot the problem and the error has disappeared.

Then add one mod at a time and try it out.

hope that fixes it.

photo
photo
1

Since the last patch, It is still happening, Its tries to suggest I'm running out of memory and my gpu is overheating, Neither of which are true. gpu load is around 30-40 percent on high on my 1080ti and I have 32gb of ram, this is preventing me from playing at all as it happens on loading any world, I used to run Space Engineers on ultra with no issues at all. I dont use mods and it happens on fresh worlds

Please get this fixed,

photo
1

Mine displays this message on startup, i can't even get into the menu. Gforce 980 and temperatures around 40°C.

photo
1

Hello, I can't even start SE, says I need to apply windows updates and graphics drivers which I did update, is this issue connected with this topic?

photo
1

I am experiencing a similar error on an AMD setup running an 8gb 590. It appears to happen within about 10 minutes of loading a world. The actual error message in-game is that my graphics card is overheating (it's not). Memory leak or garbage collection problem?

Glad (in a way) that I'm not the only one getting this problem. It's also nice to see a variety of systems being effected, I was worried it was an RTX card issue.

It's a shame because i love the new release, I'd just like to be able to play for more than 20/30 minutes at a time.

photo
1

I have the same problem with graphics card AMD RX580 game will not allow update. return to the old version of the driver then functional

photo
1

I believe I have the same problem on 1.189.044 version as of 3/21/2019 on Nvidia Gtx 1060 drivers updated yes.

photo
1

Please revisit this bug. New versions not playable, I think that this is pretty high in priority.

photo
2

I dont know hwy, but since testerday we are having the same problem, but just two of our team that were on an asteroid

photo
2

Same Issue since yesterday for me... on an Asteroid CTD every 2-5 minutes... updated drivers GTX 670

photo
1

Bought yesterday, can't even start modify my character, only setting page i can access before freezing, not even able to start the game.

My system : I7 3.2Ghz 24Gb ram Win7 64 bit SSD 500 Gb. 2 x Nvidia GTX 560 Ti in SLI dual Monitor 23" Full HD

I don't think that my system is low on resources.

Tried to low the graphic settings to the minimum, and nothing, freeze computer or restart, video driver crash, (i have the latest video drivers for my GPU, and win 7 is fully upgraded.

photo
1

For those who have problems even playing do what I did, revert to version 188 this is in properties of the game in steam you can select a different version under the Betas tab

photo
1

This require an urgent fix. Reverting version is just not possible when playing on a public server.

photo
1

I was having this exact problem consistently on my dedicated server where it was effecting all connected clients however occurred most when in battle. We figured out it was caused by the Ammo Info mod, removed that and have not had this problem even once since :) PS when it gives you a message saying "Graphics driver crash" it has nothing to do with your graphics and is a generic message for "something happened and we have no clue what". If your driver really did crash you would defiantly know about it, if you have ever booted a pc in safe mode with all drivers disabled that is what it would look like if it crashed. Gaming would be impossible

photo
1

Strange because I don't have that ammo mod, I have no mods and it was happening for me and my friend (who also has no mods). Multiple times this was happening. It is an issue with many game features crashing the game with this version. Unfortunately I or many people can't play this version because of this and I know I would definitely enjoy the more challenging changes.

photo
1

Hello, Engineers!

We are really sorry some of you are still experiencing this issue.

There was a hotfix which resolved hundreds of crashes caused by issue on our side but there other issues we are aware of.

We are certain mods can cause this crash so please check if you are playing with some of them and let the authors know about it.

If you are experiencing this issue in vanilla game, it will most likely be issue with drivers which we are trying to resolve together with GPU and driver providers. (It's happening only on some GPUs/drivers.)

We apologize for any inconveniences caused by this crash and would like to thank you for cooperation.

We are closing this thread based on fixed regression. If you are still experience this, please let us know in new thread with logs and your GPU + driver info.

Hey Ales what driver works with the version? Have you tested it with a certain version to know which one is stable? I have GTX1060 nvidia with drivers 419.35 there was an update with 419.67 that came out a few days ago so I will try this to see if it helps.

photo
2

Hi Michael,

unfortunately I have personally never experienced this crash by myself so I can't really certainly tell..

Please when you finish trying this let me know how it went!

photo
1

Sure I will update you today in an hour or two Ales. Thank you very much!

photo
photo

** Update: I updated to graphics drivers (Nvidia 419.67 released 3/25/19) I have a GTX 1060 so far I played 2 hours and no crashing!!! I am not sure if it s gone for good but it seemed as though the driver update has at least improved something. Again 2 hours of play after updated gpu driver and no crashes! I believe the 419.65 version of the driver should help others!

photo
1

Hi MIchael,

thanks for the retest!

We hope this will help more players.

Hey Ales, you guys are most welcome I love the game and I refuse to have anything hinder it. Happy Friday have fun out there!

If any of you are still crashing despite all this. It's your Discord Overlay if you have one Disable it, and that will fix the graphics driver crashing problem.

photo
1

Nice catch Ambassador

photo
1

Remember to be on 419.67 driver version as this also fixes it. I had crashing with no discord before the update.

photo
1

cant see what im typing at all

photo
1

anyway, im still having problems with the game after rolling back my dr

photo
photo
1

i cant see what im rtyping this is really frustrating please email me nopey96@gmail.com i need help with rolling back my driver this

photo
1

Top right corner of the reply box is a code box, click it, by default its on and some reason it disable text. Also what do you mean having problems. It crashes for you? What is your GPU driver version?

photo
1

Workarounds... Its time for a fix. Everything at Keen is deprecating. I feels like i could do their job easily without knowing a single line of code. Also why is it so god damn hard to fix issues? Is there only 1 dev?

photo
1

Still crashing, not using Discord.

I haven't seen a crash while actually playing though. Every time it's been while the game was paused and I had been away from the computer.

So that's possibly an improvement

photo
1

I agree Hypogriph its been awhile apparently that this problem has been existing for many people, over months of time but Keen co is still streaming on twitch before making stable releases. I speak the truth and updating a gpu driver is not that hard but the game should not be like this since January (going off the title of this OP). You guys need to check the driver and just use 419.67 wicked easy to do. No crashes for me for hours on latest version when I used to crash every 30 minutes around over and over again.

photo
photo
1

Game is still crashing with this fault. I have latest drivers installed (419.67), no discord running.

photo
1

i have this same problem. all driver up to date i dont even have discord or apps running in the background at all but SE remains totally unplayable for me ATM

photo
1

@ Malcolm have you tried changing the in game settings to all High if possible? My settings are on high and sometimes certain settings can cause like a memory leak (GPU or RAM leak).

@ Alex what driver do you have 419.67? Check your settings too put them on high. I have no issues on this gpu driver with settings on high.

Try a new save for test. I used to crash every 15 minutes now I play for 3 hours plus and no problems. All I changed was the driver. I even use discord while playing with my friend. I also updated to 190 version of game and no problems so I firmly believe it is something with the nvidia driver not working or a setting issue.

photo
1

litterally done everything i can nothing works

photo
photo
1

Oh and no mods I dont use mods

photo
1

I had this issue aswell. I was able to temporarily fix it by changing the tdr delay to 8 in registry. however now it is happening again.

photo
4

The devs should unsolve this lol many people still have the problem... so guess what its not solved guys.

photo
5

This is NOT solved, and it's a boldfaced lie as well. The graphics driver is NOT crashing, and the graphics card is NOT overheating. My friend with a GTX 2070 with 3 freaking fans on it is getting this.

photo
1

Try going into registry editor and changing TdrDelay to 8 and TdrLevel to 3. This fixed it for me, but be careful changing registries always comes at a risk. I'd recommend looking up how to find and change these two before hand.

photo
1

For me it was the driver the minute I went to the 419.67 it was all better, Also it could be a graphics setting, I have all high settings. Medium could cause the crash. I played for 10 hours no crashes. 190 version of game now.

photo
3

I completely redownload drivers and still got the crash, it also wasn't the settings as I got 100fps at ultra until the crash. It seems as though this issue can be caused by a number of things. For me it was fixed by changing the registry.

photo
3

Crazy wow hey a little help Devs yoo hoo lol.

photo
6

This is NOT solved.

photo
4

this issue is not resolved

photo
2

Apparently this is an issue with GTX cards????

photo
3

No, it is the same on my RTX 2060

photo
1

That's because this message is a scam meant to hide their bad code.

photo
1

Nothing is fixed, the crash still exists. But yeah Keen need months for fixing a gamebreaking bug, nice work!

photo
2

The crash still exist

photo
1

This crash still exists. This isn't solved. Please, please I have done a complete wipe of my windows system to fix this and the game is still broken. I just want to play the game I payed money for. Is that too hard to ask?

photo
2

The crash still exists. NOT SOLVED!

photo
1

yha got tha same message and an ton of lag ingame when you finaly almost build someting and then got the inventory lag they realy need to make the game less high end so other people can play aswel you need an pc from around the 10k euro to play this game perfect

and dusnt make an difrents if people use mods it sill mustl work

photo
2

Crash still isn't fixed. Have a new RTX 2070 Super and it happens quite regularly. Suspected graphics card being broken, but came out of the benchmarks perfectly. Suspected broken memory, found all memory in good order after memtest.

photo
1

Still happening. Windows 10 latest patches. Mobile RTX 2080 card. 16GB RAM. Intel i7 CPU. Latest nvidia drivers too.

I was able to once load to the main menu, and was getting about 10 FPS before it crashed.

photo
1

I'm getting this crash with increasing frequency, along with BSoD crashes and crashes without any error message at all.

Using a Ryzen 2600, 16GB of 3200Mhz RAM, RX 5700 XT, so I very highly doubt it'd be any kind of running out of resources issue. CPU and graphics card are water cooled and are most certainly not having any heat issues.

I really want to play me some Space Engineers, but I'm crashing about 15 seconds after loading into a game, and if I don't crash that quickly it's just a matter of time.

photo
1

seems people with AMD graphics card dont have this issue

photo
photo
1

Game crashes after up to 1min in the game. Clean installation, no mods were used.

Issue occurs with 100% rate.

I was using Acer Predator Helios 300.

Specification:Intel Core I7-9750h

GeForce RTX 2060

16GB RAM

Game installed on SSD

Log has been attached.

photo
1

I've looked into history of this bug, and it is sad that this issue still occurs. It's very hard to believe that after half of the year nothing happened. It's like very critical issue. How it's still happening?

photo
2

Can confirm, is still happening. I did a private thread on their support forums and they said they'd do something about it several weeks ago. I just want to play the game :(

photo
1

Im running a

I 9900 intel chip

msi 360 bazooka motherboard

32g gaming ram

h100 watercooler

2070 msi rtx armor g force card

700w power supply

i love this game but either the game

1)stops and freezes my whole PC

2)bombs out and tell me my GPU is overheating when its actually at 45 degrees

3)stops and give me a windows error blue screen

this happens about 20 to 25 times a day and seems to increase when i build big buildings etc . impossible to play

My friend with his cheap cpu doesnt get this problems with the game and ive even tried running lower graphics settings and underclocking my gpu and pushing the fan speed up.

is there a fix for this please

photo
1

What version are you on? What windows? I haven't had any crashes for hours. How much virtual ram?

photo
1

I'm on current patch, Windows 10 (also updated), VRAM: 5980 MB.

photo
1

Ok hmm not video ram but swap file (virtual ram) in right click computer > properties > advanced

How much physical ram also? Memory leaks are very common.

photo
2

Guys, I think we should all recognize the obvious: this crash message is a catch-all meant to pass the blame from Keen's poor programming to peoples' computers. It's meant to make the less tech-savvy people think there's something wrong with their system instead of the fact that the game is a buggy mess which they refuse to fix, instead focusing on selling you premium blocks. I can't believe they're even trying to release this mess on Xbox. It's going to be a disaster.

photo
1

I have no crashes on 193 it's strange. I think it could be a virtual ram problem or more likely video driver specific version issue.

photo
1

It's crashing on different hardware with also more than adequate ram so it must be a specific graphic setting. I have no crashes at all. 1060gtx 16gb ram ssd 8th gen i5 3.6ghz. Drivers up to date and highest game version. Test different graphic setting profile guys.

photo
1

I will try other settings, but drivers are up-to-date.

photo
1

Ok, I think I've found a reason. It seems the issue is connected to my laptop Turbo Boost technology and high quality settings, and it seems to be connected to the GPU boost specifically. I'm always using default boost setting for the games before start. As I mentioned earlier, I'm using Acer Predator Helios 300, so I have PredatorSense to manage speed of the fans, GPU etc.

These are my repro steps for this bug:

1. Launch the game

2. Go to the Options

3. Open Graphics

4. Set Quality Preset to High

5. Open PredatorSense

6. Find Overclocking

7. Use Extreme setting

8. Return to the game

9. Wait until game crash

Issue doesn't occur with other settings but High.

This desperately needs to be addressed. There shouldn't be any additional content released until this is resolved, let alone sold. What I once regarded as the single greatest game of all time has been reduced to nothing but blue screens and misguiding error messages, this is a fatal and game killing issue, I have supported this game since it's release and after nearly a full year of this thread's existence so many of us are left with no real solution, update, or hope. As more of us continue to upgrade our hardware and are subjected to this issue, I believe that we will watch a sustained diminishing of player support, and perhaps even the death of Space Engineers.

photo
1

Hello, I leave my problem which starts at 30-40 mins (approx) after playing on a server (MP), My computer throws the blue screen of death.. Apparently it's the same problem as many users. With the last update I got this error that the truth has saddened me for not being able to play Space Engineers.

I hope you have some solution within these days, as it only happens to me with Space Engineers :(. Greetings from Chile.

attached my setup:

CPU: AMD FX8350 8-core 4.9 Ghz

GPU: MSI Radeon R9270

RAM: 16 Gb DDR3 1866 MHz

photo
1

Have you guys tried it without a dedicated server? I play fine for hours in MP with just the non-dedicated method through the main menu. Also my friend and my son plays fine too using this method. That's 3 computers with different hardware all working fine with no crashing...

photo

To everyone getting BSODs or PC freezes, I know the pain. It can be any of a bunch of issues, but it is rarely an application's or game's sole fault nowadays because operating systems limit direct access to the hardware. There is usually some intermediary like Windows, DirectX or the graphics driver that could check for problems. Examples: Game keeps GPU in endless loop: Windows will reset the driver and the game will have to react to that or crash. Notebook GPU runs too hot? The driver throttles it. CPUs do the same. (Unless it is so full of dust that even that wont help :o) )

The more likely reason for a freeze are some power, timing or heat issues in other components or simply bugs and oversights in the operating system, drivers or low-level system software. If different driver versions do not help, I'd check the following:

  • Is the RAM running with custom timings? Did you mix different models for a quick upgrade? Memory tests cannot put the same load on the system (e.g. power draw and heat) that a game does. Room temperature and humidity also have their influence.
  • Power supply units may become insufficient after a hardware upgrade or due to old age. The most demanding piece of hardware is the GPU and SE is taxing in that department on planets. Symptoms can be anything: reboots, power off, memory errors, PC freezes, rendering artifacts or just a blank screen. PSU manufacturers sometimes have an online tool that allows you to specify your system components and get a list of usable PSUs for that - generally below the generic recommendation of the GPU manufacturer.
  • Are mainboard temperatures good? Try with an open case and a table fan blowing air onto the mainboard. Sometimes mainboards were not prepared for power hungry new CPUs.
  • Is anything in the Event Viewer leading up to or directly related to the freeze or BSOD? Maybe the failing component can be identified there.

A software developer can't fix a bug the she can't reproduce somehow (or make an educated guess about). If Windows BSODs on a few systems, that's almost guaranteed to be considered an individual driver/system stability issue for the time being until a pattern emerges. The OP describes a situation where the system keeps running fine after the game crashes with a specific message and it happened to several people at the same time on the server. To help identify the severity and track the status of a bug it helps to keep it to that specific issue.

It has to be the dedicated server. I run 3 clients on a non dedicated game with no issues 3 different computers.

Recently my GF started to experience similar issue. Whenever we tried to play Lost Colony scenario she would get crash after crash. After some testin i think it may be related to excessive memory usage by SE or memory leak.

So recently i decided to try out new scenario with my girfriend. It runs fine for me. But when my GF wants to join it takes ages to get into the game, and then her game crashes very often. I did check RAM usage, and mine (host) was about 7-8GB while hers went to 13GB and essentially took all of it. Once the crash happens she gets two popup messages. One saying that GFX driver crashed, and the second that she ran out of RAM.

Even whe she tried to host the scenario, i got connected while she was in the loading screen for a good while longer. And the RAM usage was still nearly double of mine. We have the same computers, GFX drivers updated, and SE is the only app running at the time.

On steam forum I was told that SE would normally took about 2GB of ram. so i did few more tests and it seems to behave the same on my machine as well. It is just not as visible as I have more RAM on it.

I am quite surprised to hear game uses only about 2GB for you. For both me and my GF it does use 2GB ONLY at fresh start in main menu. Once i start new world it will go between 4-6GB and mostly stay this way. After i quit to main menu however it will stay at about 3.7-4GB RAM. Frequent loading game, quiting to menu and reloading again seem to intensify this, however i didn't manage to make it above 7GB ingame and 5GB in menu this way.

Things get much worse when i try Lost colony scenario. On both our machines RAM usage was very high. My GF system gaves up and crashes at about 11GB. Mine have more ram installed and i could observe the game to consume 15GB of ram in peak and then stabilisie at about 11-12GB. Once i quit to main menu ram usage remained at 7GB.

In my oppinion there is some memory leak. All my testing was done with no mods and on new saves. Wether save was offline or not did not make much difference. Other scenarios or custom worlds were below 6GB. Lost colony seems to double the ram usage. But even on normal worlds ram seems higher than supposed as well.

Below are the log files. I dont think i need to attach machines specs, as they are included in the logs.

First one may be a bit long as i first tried to create/save/reload repeatedly on new survival world to see ram usage. After that i created Lost colony save and it crashed on loading.

Second time i created lost colony world right after launching the game to avoid accumulated Ram usage from reloading. It did load but crashed soon after.

Third one is on my second laptop which has 32GB ram. It did not crash, ran smooth, but i could observe high ram usage. After some time driving around, when nothing more happened I did save and quit, then copied the log.

Here are all the logs plus some screens i took while having task manager on screen to monitor ram usage while testing.

Originally I had an AMD RX 580 4GB and had this problem. What fixed it for me was buying an Nvidia GTX 2060 6GB and replacing the 580 with that. Not sure if this helps anyone else, but just in case it does, this is what I did to fix my problem.

Hi, Everyone.

Thank you for reporting these issues to us.

We have investigated these problems extensively on our side and unfortunately, we need to cooperate with NVIDIA in order to address these issues.

We realize that the text is not correct (it is not caused by the GPU overheating), but we don't know what is causing this problem.

We are currently in talks with NVIDIA and we hope to resolve these issues soon once we've heard back from them.

Thanks again and we appreciate your patience.

It's possibly happening only on dedicated servers versus non dedicated where I have 4 different computers that work fine for 40+ hours on a non dedicated server.

What about AMD? I'm on a RX 5700 XT and getting the crashing too...

Hey William are you playing on a dedicated server? Or a non-dedicated?

I've been having it both in my own creative game, and on a dedicated server.

Check RAM usage. I got this error everytime game runs out of memory.

Virtual ram can help too make your swap file 8GB or more. William is it when you are idle only?

Been having this issue for the past week or so, Not sure if it's useful info or not, but unlike all my other games, the nvidea experience thingie does not pull up the current game settings for SE. Not sure if it ever did as I rarely use it.

Really starting to go into SE withdrawal - send chocolate.

And beer.

Especially beer.

Having this problem with ryzen 5 2700x and radeon rx 5700 with 16gb of ram. Doesn't seem to matter what settings I use on the game. I've tried experimental mode and non experimental mode, with mods and without. I've taken a break from PC gaming for around a year and finally got around to building this new system and now havent' been able to run SE for more than a minute before crash. Really having SE withdrawals!

photo

I have this problem now.

Earlier this year, with a 1050ti SE was perfect on medium at 1080p

I upgraded to Radeon 5700XT, put everything on high at 2560x1440 and it was perfect still

AMD issued new Drivers in December and now my Lost Colony save will load and get to a point where its very nearly loaded, instead either the monitors will go to sleep (need a hard reset) or I get the message about GPU Driver crashed and SE dies.

If i set everything to low / medium it will load fine and play

I can up quite a few settings before it crashes.

-

I can also load up a new empty world which works

I can start a new world (in this case alien planet) which will play for a short while and then crash.

-

I initially blamed AMD (still partially do, as rolling back to November drivers makes SE playable at high settings again) and have reported the issue to them.

I did not realise other people and different GPU's were having issues.

Hello,

Also having graphics driver issues.

I am using a Gigabyte Gaming OC Radeon 5700 XT and keeps crashing in Mission 3 of the campaign. Sometimes a few seconds in, sometimes a couple of minutes in.

I have tried using 19.12.3 (Dec 18 2019), the 19.12..2 (12 Dec 2019) and 19.8.1 (12 Aug 2019) Radeon drivers and the same result every time.

I purchased the game from Steam on 21 dec 2019 and running game version 1.193.101

I have attached the VRageRender-DirectX11.log and it shows missing textures. SpaceEngineers.log shows exception errors:

I may have found a data point.

It seems to crash eventually if I stare at an object I can interface with like a chair or door.

photo

I'm not sure if this is just a side effect of lowering the GPU usage or just coincidence but disabling Anti-Aliasing seems to have fixed the issue for me.

I tried this - got to play for a bit longer before the crash

Lowering the graphics settings definitely helps. With my GTX 1080, the game went from unplayable at high settings (crashing once every 10 minutes or less) to never getting a crash at low settings (over 2 hours uninterrupted gameplay).

The game looks like trash on low settings, so I've been gradually increasing the options and then decreasing them again when I get a crash. So far, I feel like reducing grass rendering settings to the minimum possible and tree distance to about 800-500 meters, plus everything else on medium with no ambient occlusion, but texture detail on high seems to be pretty reliable. Your results may vary, depending on your GPU. I also feel like changing from fullscreen windowed to just fullscreen helped significantly.

I could post a screenshot of my exact settings if anyone else wants to try it out.

photo
2

Hi Tony,

Thank you for your comments.

Yes, I figured out after posting that low settings stops the crashing and whilst not ideal, it does allow for the game to be played.

It seems that the moment I keep the GPU 3D rendering at below 60%, any spikes do not push past 100% which causes the failure of the graphics card driver.

I will fiddle with the settings you suggested to see if I can improve the visuals a bit until this issue is resolved.

Describe exactly what happens when it crashes due to my computer crashing (probably not under same situation but could be).

Hi Carter,

I posted the details earlier in this thread but here is a summary:

I think he meant "That describes exactly what happens when mine crashes".

Your comment about it crashing when the rendering tries to spike to over 100% GPU is very interesting. That insight might help me optimize my settings to get good graphics without it crashing.

My exact settings for a 1080p144hz monitor (game running at 120fps) were:

Display > Fullscreen, Vsync on, capture mouse on

Graphics:

- Model medium

- shader medium

- voxel medium

- texture medium

- shadow medium

- AA = FXAA

- Anisotropic filtering off

- FOV = 120.0 degrees

- flares = 1.0

- grass draw = 49m (lowest possible)

- grass density = 0.0

- tree draw = 500m (lowest possible)

- ambient occlusion off

- PostProcessing disabled

- damage effects off

I just got a 2560x1440p144hz monitor, so I'll probably have to reduce some settings to keep it from crashing on the larger display.

I'll start using EVGA NV-Z and OpenHardwareMonitor to tune my settings and see if mine also crashes when from rendering spikes.

photo
2

@Tony F

Mine is very strongly related to grass

On 0.1 Density I can play almost normally (ie I have not played until it locked up) on 0.2 and up the crash comes sooner to almost instantly

If i am in space or on a snow / sand planet, it is rock solid ( I presume because no grass is being rendered)

photo
2

@Brian Edworthy

Interesting. I tried reducing my grass settings in the first place because a friend of mine mentioned they get significantly better performance with grass off, and I could tell that the crashes were definitely a function of performance.

@Frost Ees OP

I (so far) haven't been able to tell a correlation between GPU spikes and the game crashing. Was the software you used to see the spikes AMD-specific? If not, I'd like to know what you used so I can try it.

Unfortunately, I'm not having much of any luck playing the game on my 1440p monitor. I think I'm going to have to decrease the settings all the way down to low. I'm also going to try turning off Windows HDR, because that was definitely causing problems with Starcraft II on this monitor.

photo
3

@Brian Edworthy

Superb, yes, the grass was the issue for me too! I am now running every graphics setting on high (or on) with grass at 0 and no crashing at 60Fps on 4K monitor with Radeon 5700 XT. Thank you :-)

@Tony F

I was just using the standard Windows 10 Task Manager on the performance tab with GPU selected. I then get an active graph for 3D, Copy, Video Encode and Video Decode as well as memory usage. selecting any level of grass would crash when 3D spiked to 100%.

photo
2

@Frost Ees OP

You're welcome, but I'm not happy now hahahah, The November AMD drivers / State of SE worked perfectly, I had Grass Density set so 1.something which is really nice for the Lost Colony Scenario, it all looked lush and ran at 60-80 fps at 1440p which did make me happy.

But December saw a change that I hope can be rectified soon ( by either SE or AMD, I still don't know who did what)

photo
2

@Brian Edworthy

Hi Brian, I am having issues with my brand new 5700xt but no problems with my Vega 64. Do you think this is a broken driver issue or an SE issue?

photo
2

@Andrew Wittich

For the record, I'm pretty confident that, for my case, SE is at fault, not Nvidia drivers. I haven't had a problem with any other game besides Planetary Annihilation, which has never been absolutely reliable in the first place.

Given that SE likely has a problem, I find it very unlikely that AMD drivers are causing your issues as long as your drivers are up-to-date.

Sorry if I'm butting-in on your question directed at Brian.

@Frost Ees OP

Apparently, my graphics driver crashes (especially the ones involving Starcraft 2) were due to an unreliable DisplayPort connection. After unplugging and re-plugging my DP cable and using a different DP socket on my GPU, my problems with other games have gone away.

That's probably what was preventing me from getting any correlation between SE crashes and GPU usage after the monitor upgrade. Next time I play SE, I can do some more tests and see if I get the same results as you.

Cheers,

- Tony

photo
2

@Andrew Wittich @Tony F

My initial impression was AMD Driver, because when I went back to Nov '19 drivers SE Worked. Installed Dec '19 Drivers, SE Failed. This was repeatable.

However, every other game i tried had no issues, so that points more to SE being at fault.

So then I was thinking perhaps its a bit of both, but if Nvidia users are having the same problem, then AMD are off the hook :)

The older card may operate in a sufficiently different way as to sidestep the issue

photo
2

@Brian Edworthy

That sounds like maybe SE was relying on an exact behavior of a DirectX/OpenGL feature, and then the drivers optimized (or otherwise changed) it, breaking SE.

Is there a difference in DirectX support between those two AMD drivers? What version of DirectX do they support, exactly?

My NVIDIA driver (441.66, 12-6-2019, 86.4.60.0.90) supports DirectX (shader model 5.0) profiles 12.1 & 11.4, OpenGL 4.6.0, and Vulkan 1.1.119.

To get that detailed information, I used OpenGL Extension Viewer (direct download link) from http://realtech-vr.com/admin/glview.

I'd be interested to compare those version numbers with everyone else's, but especially your working and broken ones, Brian.

photo
1

Did you guys try verifying the game files (stupid I know)? I seem to recall having this issue before.. I think I fixed it by verifying the game files thru steam. Not sure thought, it's been a while.

photo
1

For me, the first time I got it, it was while I was in the middle of doing something completely normal (it escapes me to exactly what) but now, I cannot even begin, the game crashes the moment the loading completes. my GPU appears to be fine, I played Minecraft 5 minutes after the first time with a 32x32 resource pack and an extreme motion-blur shader, and a 20 chunk render distance, no problems at all.

photo
1

@Tony F , yes that was one of my hunches too.

There is no noticeable (or advertised) difference in the drive support for DX 11 and 12

I will attempt to get those numbers for the older drivers when I have a gap, but here are those for the current (possibly problematic) ones

OpenGL 4.613586

DirectX 12.1 11.4

SM 5.0

Vulkan 1.1.129

@Adam Turner, Yes, Verified (not stupid, it has fixed a number of issues over the years), as well as deleting shader cache and removing mods

@Angus Yes, If I have grass set to more than 0.1, a save game on planet where there is grass will die before i even get into the game. If Grass is set to 0 or 0.1, it will load and play :)

And yes Empyrion, Fallout4, Witcher3, 7 Days to die, NMS, Jurrasic World all work as expected with no crashes and on similar settings

photo
1

I just came back to playing SE after a few years (October '16). I've since entirely rebuilt my PC and I noticed I was having these crashes.

I've got a 3600X and a 5700XT so it should be able to handle this no problem. I can run sea of thieves on full graphics at 4k and still get over 60FPS.

What I found was that on high graphics the game would crash as soon as it loads with the error blaming the driver overheating. I tried setting my graphics to med before loading and found that it would load. Thinking it might be a driver issue I updated to the latest AMD graphics driver (19.12.3) as mine was a few months out of date. However now I found that I was getting the problem when running at med and could only load and play at low settings.

As @Brian Edworthy, @Frost Ees OP and @Tony F all seem to note, when the grass settings are put down to low or very minimal values the game runs just fine.

photo
1

@Tony F, right, i DDU'd the current driver and installed the Nov '19 one

OpenGL 4.613572 vs 4.613586

DirectX 12.1 11.4 vs 12.1 11.4

SM 5.0 vs SM 5.0

Vulkan 1.1.125 vs 1.1.129

So nothing particularly noteworthy except i was able to once again play SE with grass on a density of 2, and draw distance of 1000m (not upper limits)

photo
1

@Brian Edworthy

Yeah, I'm not sure what I expected. I wonder if there's a way to get a more specific DirectX version.

The only thing I can think to do now is try to find an Nvidia driver that's about as old as that Vulcan/OpenGL version and see if it improves things for me. If it improved things, that'd point towards there being some sort of official DirectX change that got implemented in both drivers that instigated the problem. If it didn't improve things, then I don't know what to think.

photo
1

I also upgraded my PC to a 3600X and 5700 XT and 32 Gb of Ram and I also started having the black screen issue.

The Other Worlds, Metro Exodus, Fallout 4 and Halo Reach all work properly, the only one not working properly is SE.

I've tried several fizies and only the grass reduction one worked, I can have the rest of the graphics on high, but If I try to do that with the grass it crashes.

photo
1

I have been experiencing this issue for two years on both a 1070 and a 1080 Ti.The engine is just straight out garbage. The game runs perfectly smoothly until the second it just dies, frequently requiring a manual reboot, sometimes even wrecking the graphics driver until the NEXT reboot. I usually get both a graphics driver and a memory error message, when I get a message at all.

photo
1

@Lukáš Lahoda

That sounds significantly more severe than the problems we're experiencing. Has it been requiring a reboot with the latest version of SE and the latest graphics drivers?

Have you ever had graphics driver issues with other games? I was having a driver crash issue that I thought was part of this issue, but it turned out to just be compounding with it. The solution was to reseat my DisplayPort cable in a different GPU port.

Currently, I think the only issue I'm facing on a GTX 1080 with the latest SE and drivers is the game crashing when the GPU usage gets too high. It doesn't cause any problems with other programs or require a reboot for me.

photo
1

@Tony F

Nope, drivers are fully up to date as well as SE, checked file integrity and everything. Had the same problem on a hugely different machine more than a year ago when I started with SE for the first time, the tutorial scenario would crash all the time. Never had any issues with graphics in any other games. I think the issue is being masked as GPU related but it's actually a memory leak. A memory management program that clears the system cache and trims working sets has significantly alleviated the issue, to the point where the only guaranteed crashes occur when I run memory intensive tasks in the background.

I am getting this error... and seeing this error is going on a year old... is a bit concerning. Granted, I've only had the error more recently. (Played a hundred hours prior without ANY problems.)

Graphics driver is Geforce 441.87 GTX 970 SC OC.

Steam Verified game content as well.

I have an error report file attached supplied by the game.

photo
1

I ran my own test. Launched a bunch of programs to bring my CPU usage to %100.

Just like I thought it would. The game said that I had a graphics card issue... I'm going to go bank on it having an error reporting and "emergency" shutdown issue. So... Safety feature may be thinking a %100 CPU for a few seconds is too much of an issue.

After several runs of doing this... I've now also encountered a new issue... Just having a lot of windows open, not using %100 CPU has caused the game to literally just crash without error reporting.

Running i5-4690K CPU @3.50GHz (Quad-core)

So trying to stream the game is no longer an option for me... (which I had no issue doing prior.) So, uh... best of luck I guess?

photo
1

I did find a... un-appealing solution to the graphics card issue on the game. I literally set all graphics to LOW... I can play the game... but it's no longer as pretty.. sad day for me. Just giving an update.. but I also found it had something to do with the tree-draw. I set that down to 1200 meters. Grass density is 0 and view distances lowest I can get it.

Issue still, if Firefox, Google Chrome, Internet explorer - if they're open or I have a few tabs open. or even a single tab to Youtube. I find the game cannot help but not understand this process. So it causes a system error within and crashes not only the game... but the browser. Noticed this happens with Discord as well at times... Since Placing it on low graphics essentially, I have removed many issues.

Thanks and best of luck again.

I've stress tested video card with 3d max, and other heavy graphic games, GPU temp rarely reached 70C, 50-60 on average.

Space Engineers crashes on 50-55, so doubt it's overheating.

photo
1

Hi Kreo, if you want to try this test, try setting grass density to 0 or 0.1 (looks bad I know) and then start custom scenario as before. If you are able to make it to land, then it is the grassy 'bug'. Hopefully Keen crush it soon

photo

Yes, totally disabling grass and grass draw distance helps, can actually play the game now (alto it looks weird even at highest settings).

Enabling grass in game instantly crashes it, So here we go, problem with the grass confirmed.

Same issue. Returning player after a few years away, with a new (very solid) PC. Updated drivers, game was crashing with the driver/overheating message as above, but too quickly for the card to have been overheating. Turning off the grass density (and tweaking down the distance for good measure) seemed to clear up the problem. It makes perfect sense, the views that kept crashing would have been the first time I was seeing grass. Thank you to everyone who figured it out already!

Hey guys, iv had the same issue, system is a Ryzen 9 3900x, 64GB DDR4 @3200MHz, RX 5700XT Gpu, running on an XPG 1TB M.2SSD @4k res on a high quality projector (60fps, 5ms Response time, on a projector??) the only way iv been able to "solve" the issue is iv narrowed it down to the "grass" yes litereally set grass density to 0 in game settings and i will NEVER crash, i usually obtain 75-90 FPS on fairly high graphics settings.

Also note worthy, everything is on a custom waterloop, GPU and CPU, i actually get a UserBenchmark score of 100th percentile on my 5700XT. gota love watercooling!

photo

Hey, so I just came across a possible fix that no one was preparing for. My friend brought it to my attention they don't have this issue with similar specs to my PC. What was the key difference?

They DISABLE Economy and Bounties. They run 40+ mods and do not have this isssue.

I disabled the Economy addition in my game... I IMMEDIATELY noticed that my CPU usage GPU usage everything, went down by %50. I was reaching peaks of %62 and the error of my graphics card. That would normally happen 30 minutes to an hour in the game. HAVE stopped. The Economy mod is not meant for solo play PC's I feel.

Try Disabling Economy and Bounties!

Give it a try, see if this solves some of your issues! I've been able to finally game for HOURS without a crash.

photo
1

With all due respect this sounds unrelated (to grass density) bug, I can play for hours already even with grass set to max, provided i stay in space and don't get within render distance of grass. The crash occurs instantly when the game has to render grass, no overheating, no system stress, it just fails.

Besides I would really rather have keen fix the bug than I have to disable game features to play :)

Same issue with NVIDIA GEFORCE MX150 (newest drivers: 442.19).

I have crash in main menu so I have a problem without mods.

photo
1

I've tried to play on older versions of the game: I had same problem.

I could play on new update for about a week. Maybe it's something with Windows updates?

photo
1

OK. I've restore my system to version from 09.02.2020 (DD/MM/YYYY, but i'm not sure day) and install all updates 1 more time.

I've set grass to 0 too. And now it works!

photo

I could play 2 times and I have problem again.

This resolution is in Settings but not supported. I see Exception after this.

I've changed resolution to 1680x1050 and it works now.

photo
1

I personally suspect this has something to do with windows updates. Have not confirmed.

photo
1

OK, final workaround:

1) Go to settings as fast as possible (before crash)

2) Change graphics to low (grass 0 is important)

3) Wait 5 minutes in Settings (idk how long but 5 shoud be enough)

4) Game can't crash now, even in Main Menu

photo
1

If you scroll back a bit, I and many others, have stated that changing the grass works. It has never (for me and others) crashed in the main menu when you first load in. In fact you can have grass set to max, as long as you stay in space /mars where there is no grass, it doesn't crash. If you approach the earth like, as soon as you are in render distance of grass, it will crash.

photo
1

Maybe my problem is different than yours but for me changing grass only doesn't work.

photo
photo
2

I have same "grass bug". Before I was unable to load a scenario with grass (earthlike). I tried disabling economy and contracts and I was able to load into the scenario but then it crashed within seconds of loading in. Setting grass to 0 worked.

Is there really any solution being worked on? Apart from the assumption that reports are scarce, the problem is very real.

Are the devs working together with amd on solving this issue?

I had no problem with nvidia 1070, but since i have 5600 xt with the newest drivers (there is only 2 drivers so far btw) grass makes the graphics driver crash. I noticed i can turn up grass to 10 or highest settings, and game would work but 0.1-5 grass settings and so on instant crash. btw. it's a new windows install, and new game install on steam, as well. It just doesn't work out of the box as it should.

This is funny, over a year old... no one truly working on it except the players... come on devs kick it into gear! You don't add things to a game that has problems. First you fix the problems.... Having said that I never crash...940+ hours I crash once in a while with host left game but nothing else. The game is great but they (devs) should fix this problem for many players. Or just dont and watch the thread still get bigger.... wow. Just my opinions sorry to speak frank.

I started playing this game for some weeks and I always have this issue. It happens every 30 minutes approximately. Why nobody is working on this ??

For some reason DX /SharpDX or DXGI cannot create a buffer.

I have this Issue, Yesterday I played without issue, Today crash after 5 mins being online

Tried updating and downgrading drivers, to nvidia 437, seemed to improve but to no avail.

Graphics Driver keeps Crashing. temperature is fine. [MSI GTX 750TI]

Same Error with SharpDX seems to pop up:

020-02-29 14:44:25.441 - Thread: 9 -> Error: Error creating buffer: SharpDX.SharpDXException: HRESULT: [0x887A0005], Module: [SharpDX.DXGI], ApiCode: [DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED/DeviceRemoved], Message: The GPU device instance has been suspended. Use GetDeviceRemovedReason to determine the appropriate action.

Yesterday i did a windows update and graphics driver update, but in the evening played without any issue. Today game was kept crashing. after downgrading Nvidia Driver and setting all graphic setting to low time ingame improved. but still crashed.

My best bet to what the problem is certain parts of SE render engine misscommunicate with GPU Drivers causing a driver crash.

Could possibly be caused by SE code not being up to date with latest Driver code.

Please look into this bug, cause many players are simply turned away from the game entirely.

Please Communicate at the very least.

After clearing out Drivers using DDU and reinstalling latest Nvidia Drivers.

Good to see that its not just me... I belived it was a hardware problem so I sendt in my MOBO, CPU, GPU and ram for a warrenty check. Everything was fine with the hardware. Now I've tried my GPU (2080 Ventus V2) in my wife's computer and same issue still. Seems to be worse when I have dual screen (Netflix, youtube on other screen) and playing on my AOC 144HZ 24" screen. Some people have suggested that is the Sound driver arguing with the NVidia sound driver (For the GPU). I've tried every most of the suggestions, grass at 0 etc. Still crashes. GPU reaches top 50*C, CPU the same.

My wife have a i5 prossessor, I have a Ryzen 3700x. Same issue with same GPU.

@Fredrik Feros Haugli

You're not going to like it, but try setting every available setting as low as it can go, and try different windowing settings. If you find a stable setup, then you can start gradually turning things back up from there and seeing which settings aggravate the issues, and then back those ones back down.

Unfortunately, that seems to be your only option until Keen fixes this issue.

Best of luck!

photo
1

Sadly tried this. Even at the lowest setting it happens. And window mode? There is no fullscreen option only windowed?

Mine seems to happen with small ships. Planets and large ships are fine but if I load in a small ship then the game crashes.

Updated to a new Radeon driver 20.2.2 and tested settings with a grass, did not crashed right away, just watched weird grass patches everywhere, even in the air, and about 20 sec into the game, it finally gave up.

So don't get your hopes up yet.

Hi everyone,

STOP PRESS!!! it looks like we have a fix!!

Radeon Software Adrenalin 2020 Edition 20.3.1 specifically states in it's release notes that it has fixed the grass density bug in Space Engineers.

https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/release-notes/rn-rad-win-20-3-1

I have just logged in to Space Engineers using the latest update 1.194 and I can confirm that using my Radeon 5700 XT that grass is indeed glorious :-)it feels like I am in little house on the prairie!!

Im having the same issue where the game crashes on start up with the music still playing and freezes up my whole computer, forcing me to have to log off and back on. Ive updated my drivers and its not my graphics drivers as they run all other games on my PC currently. Thanks!

photo

Does it give the error that your graphics card is overheating/ out of date? Most of other people's problems have been in game or trying to load into a world

photo

no its not giving me an error code anymore, just crashes on startup. I have a brand new PC. All parts are new and I was running the game fine for the past 2 weeks until about 3 days ago when these crashes started. Ive uninstalled and re downloaded the game as well.

photo

Mine starts just fine, but then about 30sec to 1 minute into the game it freezes...give me a error that graphics drivers have crashed. Only does it in survival, multiplayer. I loaded some saved games and have no problems.

As it says, Space Engineers has been crashing on me a lot (around once every 30 mins).

It states my GPU overheated

I have had no issues prior to the Triton update.

There is no reduced sim speed, or warning. Just a crash.

Steps I have taken,

Uninstalled and Reinstalled the game and mods

Recorded My GPU Temperatures, Never above 60 degrees celsius and on a 50% load

Recorded My CPU Load and Temps which were minimal as well.

Tried playing vanilla single player

Restarted and cleaned computer

All graphics drivers are up to date.

All sound drivers are up to date.

Computer Stats:

Ryzen 7 2700X

RTX 2080

1TB m.2 SSD

1TB internal SSD

MSI 450B Motherboard

I run much more graphics intensive games often with no issues as well.

Is there any solution to this issue that is known?

If not will the devs get the logs i have sent from the crash report?

I'm getting a bug since the update on 4/27/2020. On my DS powered by GTX Gaming, on login, all my medical rooms are gone and I cannot load into my game 98% of the time. If they do appear and I am able to get into the game, it seems to lag out.

Is anyone else having this issue? I did not get the new DLC. Could that be the issue?

photo
1

Fixed it, I went back to 1.193 version XD no lag, no crashing, i can play again. Dont try and tell me its on my end either. 20+ games work without fail (more graphics intensive as well), and this one has issues? :P be honest and admit the problem. this aint solved

photo

I am having the same problem. I asked around and was told to turn down the GRASS settings to 0 in the Graphics Settings and YES it did allow me to play the game, for about 30 min and then the screen would Lock and then crash me back to my Desktop. Most frustrating part is that my 11 year old computer really had no issues, it was original and really let me play for hours with no real issues unless the build was huge. So guess what I just recently did, I built a NEW DESKTOP COMPUTER.

Current System

AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8 Core 16 Thread CPU, Gigabyte Radeon RX 5700XT Gaming OC 8GB 256 bit GDDR6 (Current BIOS Update 20.4.2 as of 6/03/20), Corsair LPX 32GB (2x16GB) 3200MHz DDR4 RAM, MSI ATX B450 Tomahawk Max Motherboard. I have multiple Drives on this system, C Drive: WIN10 loaded on Samsung M.2 SSD 970 EVO 1TB, , D Drive: WD HD BLACK SATA 2TB, E Drive: WD HD Black SATA 3TB, F Drive: SANDISK SSD 1TB and Lastly a Newer USB Connected Drive G: WD 12TB External Drive.

My computer rests at a cool 52Deg C and I seem to have no issues on any other game I play except Space Engineers.

I opened Space Engineers yesterday and did a quick Monitoring of my system using Radeon Software and noted 120FPS, and VRAM at 82% with my GPU at over 92%. None of this makes sense.

Yet I am still having the issue of crash of my game Space Engineers and with this new and better system I do not see what the issue is and would appreciate some assistance to fix this issue.

This problem has indeed not yet been fixed. I did try the workaround with the file verification and deleting the CFG and shadercache, but still get the same error. I think I have send the same error hundreds of times by sending the log with the integrated bug / log registration over the past two years. Only after the last update of SE and the last update of the NVidia driver (446.14) the problem has become seriously terrible since I have about 3,5 minutes of playtime before this error occurs.

The message is blaming my GPU, but SE also blamed my previous GPU for the same error.

photo
1

In my case SE won't even start. Worked fine until today, updated driver of my NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M today, now SE crashes everytime I start it. The error claims that my video card crashed or overheated, but I literally run other games in the same time without issue - so I call bs...

Guess we are just not allowed to play the game anymore because we own the wrong hardware lol

photo
1

If I had issues after upgrading my drivers I used the DDU Tool and reinstalled the driver after that. It mostly fixes my issues on that

https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html

Maybe you should give it a try.

This is an SE issue. Has been going on upwards of more than a year with various cards, but predominantly with NVidia.

I just purchased a new system with an Intel i9, 64G of dual channel Ram, an NVidia 2080. Guess what... so long as I don't approach any block that is considered a "terminal block" the game runs just fine longer than if I do have powered blocks. I haven't tried all blocks, but so far this error happens when I get close to survival kit and powered doors. Does not get tripped near hangar doors but then their is no 'input' ... they are not terminal blocks.

So basically this game is unplayable for me now. Completely. And from what I have been reading this problem has been going on for YEARS?

Posted in another thread, but I am now getting this error and it is beyond annoying. Can't even load any of my saved games anymore

photo

I was working until today. Now I hard freeze. Nothing in logs, tried new empty space world with no mods, creative. Validated files. Nothing to be had. I'm at a loss now.

photo
3

This has NOT been solved. I am completely unable to launch the game at all, it crashes sometime during the intro screen. With a NullReferenceException, claiming that my stock 2080s GPU, running at 30c, is somehow unstable when every other game runs perfectly fine.

I've reinstalled, deleted all local files, tried booting it in a number of different modes, but it's still completely, 100% broken.

A NullReferenceException is not a graphics driver issue. It's a lazy error handling issue. My purchase has more or less been revoked. I understand that I shouldn't expect ongoing support for a one-time purchase, but I definitely expect to be able to use the software without it causing catastrophic issues.

photo
1

Feeling a little ripped off to be honest. Ever since I purchased sparks of the future this has been happening, claiming my 2080 is out of memory when it's only using 1600MB of it every ten minutes.
