Hi

This may sound vague, but I believe that I may be experiencing similar symptoms for a number of reasons:

Experience: between a minute and 30 minutes, the games fps seems to stutter dramatically until the image freezes. and while the sound continues, the image of the game freezes completely. at this point alt-ctrl-del, ctrl-shit-esc, start, alt-tab, alt-F4 and even start+L don't seem to respond. the first time it happened, i ended up having to restart the PC from the power button. Since that instance, I've found that if I wait a while (>3 minutes), it will eventually allow me to get back to the desktop where I have intermittently been greeted by a prompt box from AMD apologising for any inconvenience. I did notice performance issues around desert parts of the planet, and close to the space station, but I'm not sure if they were the cause or a coincidence.

My instinct tells me that this is some kind of memory issue, but I'm an idiot so I dunno.

To add, I've noticed that disabling v-sync seems to force the game into windowed mode. I only mention this in case it gives you a clue about the cause

Attempts to fix: so far I've tried reducing graphical settings to minimum as well as reducing the resolution. I've also tried verifying files via steam, sfc scans and 'attempting' to extracts logs from AMD to see if that could give me a clue, but nothing so far. (Note: while it is working, reducing graphics doesn't seem to alter my performance to any degree. It always seems to hover closely around 30 fps)

Next time I get a chance, I plan on reinstalling SE2 from scratch, as well as reinstalling gfx drivers.

any tips for resolving or mitigating this issue would be great

Hello mann,

Could you please provide your Game logs? You can find them here:

C:\Users\(your_username)\AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers2\Temp\Logs

Have you tried closing applications working in the background (like web browsers and overlays)?

Kind Regards,

Hi Bartosz

Yes, I've closed quite a bit in the background. Thanks for the tip on the logs. I'll send them when I'm home later

UPDATE: I reinstalled SE2, and all my drivers and it made 0 difference. Then I decided to have a look in my graphics card settings and found 'performance' mode. Now everything runs at about 40-60fps and the odd stutter at medium settings. Sorry to waste your time. appreciate you looking into this

UPDATE UPDATE: Ok, that was premature. It worked a lot better, and initially lasted a lot longer before I had issues, but eventually I started getting them again. I'm not a logs expert, but it looks like it's misplacing a few things in vmemory

i've been having the same issue before and still after the latest bugfix update. I noticed that it seems to be a CPU crash since my AIO screen goes blank and system does not respond, forcing me to restart my PC.

my specs are

9800x3d

4070ti

32gb RAM

latest windows 11 update

logs attached below from last crash which seems to happen randomly (ranging between 5min into the game to 1hours into the game)

Hello,

I've had a similar bug twice today since the 251202 update. I haven't encountered this issue before.

I am attaching the complete logs, as well as what I was able to extract from the Windows event logs, SFC, DISM, AMD Bug Report Tool, DX Diag, gpu_info, systeminfo, and DPC.

I am also including the list of installed drivers.

Are you seeing anything about vram issues in the se2 logs

photo

Hello, no, I haven't specifically explored the logs, but I did play while keeping an eye on the task manager. The game was running at an average of 8-10 GB of RAM, peaking at 14-16 GB just before crashing.

getting the same thing here (on a Ryzen 5 7600, rtx 4080, 64gb RAM) but found a (tedious!) workaround that worked for me, hopefully it works for someone else until this is fixed - if i limit my ships speed to about 100-150km/h when i'm on a planet it seems to stop the crash, but I seem to be able to do whatever when in space. makes a bit of sense - the faster you go in a busy area the faster the game engine needs to process new data. things that didn't work for me:

  • lowering resolution & graphics settings
  • turning off vsync
  • turning off overlays
  • limiting frame rate to 40fps
  • starting a new game
  • verifying game file integrity
  • running in windowed mode

neither my VRAM nor system RAM ever seemed to get real close to filling up.

Hope it helps someone!

I have the same issue , here are my system spec , game keeps crashing when ever i move faster them 240 mps in a ship on survival mode , sceen frezzes but clouds still move i lose sound for about 15 seconds then it returns no crash log tho also tried rolling back versions to 1.5 but now it wont even loaded

Seems like I randomly crash when moving faster than a 200-300 km/hr

Last few attempts to play I crashed in the exact same way. Flying from the Hydro Ship to the Ice mine, right before arriving to the mine Graphics crash. System is fine, only the graphics freeze and I have to kill the client. Sound does continue to play after the graphics freeze.

Similar effects here, after maybe an hour, the frame rate goes down to the point where it is seconds per frame. This goes hand in hand with SE needing over 16 GB of RAM (I have 32, otherwise the problems might have set in much earlier). Perhaps a memory leak?

Similar with me I think. In the logs I can see it failing to load things from vram when it starts to go wrong. Weird thing is, the first time I played, it went on for a while before I had problems, but after that it took less and less time before it had problems. Then, after a fresh install it lasted at least 90 minutes before it went wrong, and after that it took less and less time again. It’s as if the cache is getting corrupted and then not clearing properly

Same here, however it is a game crash not a system crash. It only happens to me when I have completed a mission and I am taking off from the place the mission was at. AMD offers its apologies and I've sent several logs to them. I have a decent system and have not had problems with anything like this before until the update.

I'm seeing a correlation here between all these posts that it seems like it's only effecting AMD systems? Or at least AMD CPU's? Mine with a 7950x3d and 7900xtx is doing the same things.

It’s definitely a pattern

Same here - Game was working fine this morning. I then installed latest 2.0.2.26 patch and started a new game - After about 5 minutes game hangs and audio breaks. A few seconds later audio restarts. Can confirm that (a) clouds continue to move in background, and (b) RAM usage goes up - Started at 9GB, and when I forced stop the session task manager was reporting 20+GB used (I have 32 GB physical RAM, Windows 10, i7 9700 with a 2060 card - No mods) Tried 3 times - Once with old save, 2 with new ghames.

Similar experience. Played 3+ hours last night, no crashes at all. Today, less than 5mins in (after downloading patch) game freezes completely. I'm locked out and cannot do anything but Alt-Tab out and stop the game in Steam. Then, I'm not able to reload the game from my previous save. After ten minutes hanging on the load screen, I eventually gave up. Logs attached.

I'll give it a try:

A friend who has an AMD processor but an NVidia GPU told me he had the same problem, but solved it by disabling V-Sync.

I can't do it right now, but I'll do it tomorrow. If you don't mind, please test it on your end to confirm or rule out this cause.

Vsync doesn’t seem to affect anything for me.

I did migrate the game files from a secondary m.2 drive, onto my primary drive and that seems to have stabilised things, but I haven’t tried for long enough to be confident

Game freezing after 1st mission. taking off in ship and traveling to next mission. Clouds move, no keyboard controls. Stopped with task manager 3 times. Gave up, tried new start, same thing, gave up. Have an Intel CPU. Tried with VSync off, froze while holding a drill in a new fresh start while opening a cargo box, before I achieved anything. Gave up.

Same issue here. Started off great, got hours in and now it locks up consistently within 5 minutes. Same hardware as others above. Doesn't matter what I'm doing, as long as I'm moving. There are no errors in the windows logs anywhere, of any sort. The system thinks the game is running just fine. It's always a total game freeze with a render issue. I've tried resolutions, monitors, nothing stops it.

Edit: Game wouldn't generate a Render log until I killed it.

It is not only related to AMD Users; game crashed on 3 different computers for me. two use amd(among others) yes, but 3rd is intel/nvidia only.

Hello, I have similar issue, short after I finished last contract I wanted to fly to the 2nd Planet to explore it. After lowering the altitude the game froze or more like entire simulation, because the thruster effects were still animated but I was stuck and I couldn't press anything. I have a clip from steam recordings, but I can not upload it here.

So I basically forced to close the game and after going back in and trying to load the game I was stuck with infinite loading screen. I waited 1st time like 10min and after that I closed the game and tried another few times, I also tried loading the game from the backup saves, it didn't helped at all

My Specs are:

RTX 4070 Ti

Intel Core i5 - 11400f

32 GB RAM DDR4 3200 mhz

same issue after the patch some saves wont load at all new game crashed in just a few minutes. longest i have been able to get playing was about 3 minutes.

I've had a similar bug today since the update, Yesterday, no problem.

Seems like the patch broke some things with rendering. I have noticed it is when I see the blue sky and clouds. Might be a coincidence maybe not? Unplayable at this point. I've restarted, lowered my settings, vsync, changed the screen resolution, changed the percent of screen that is shown, I even cleaned up my hard drive, making sure I get rid of any garbage that my system may have had on it. Verified the files for the game, everything that I can think of anyway. Unfortunately I started a new game to see if it would cure it, It only made it worse. Editing this for the comment of only being AMD systems. I've seen some Nvidia on here as well. Might be people trust AMD more than Nvidia thats why there are more mentioned here. :) j/k Personally I like AMD better, but its a choice we make. Jaguar or Ford Pinto, your choice :)

Update after my post above.

Clean install on my laptop with a Nvidia 3060 didn't make it through the first contract after the initial tutorial contract before it locked up exactly the same way, with the same errors in the files.

Hey, there's a link to a video of the issue in this thread: https://support.keenswh.com/spaceengineers2/pc/ticket/50776, and I'm posting the logs below. This all happened right after downloading the hotfix.

It makes sense to look at the logs from 11:20 pm.
