Game constantly crashing no matter what I do, can't play for more than 10 minutes at a time

Scott Reeves shared this bug 2 years ago
Won't Fix

I have been trying since I purchased the game, to simply play the game at all, to no avail.

I will load in, be able to play for 5 - 10 minutes if I'm lucky, and then the game freezes, the sound cuts out, and I get a prompt saying my graphics driver crashed, or my GPU overheated.

Monitoring my GPU temps shows me that this isn't even close to the truth, and my GPU usage is fine until the moment of the crash, at which time it spikes to 100%, and then the game crashes to desktop.

I have tried every suggestion from the first 5 pages of multiple google searches, not a single one of the literal tens of solutions that helped others, fixed my issue. None whatsoever. My system is more than capable of handling this game. This is the only game giving me any kinds of errors or crashes. I've even passed the 2 hour playtime mark on steam, despite ALL OF MY TIME IN GAME being dedicated to trying to fix the crashes. Now I can't even get a refund on the game because I dared try and make it work.

PC Specs:

GPU - GeForce GTX 1080 Ti

CPU - Ryzen 7 3700X

Memory - 16GB RAM

I play on a 1440p 165Hz monitor, with an identical second monitor connected as well.

I have attached what I believe to be the error logs.

Hello, Scott!

Sorry to hear you're experiencing this issue. Firstly, I can see in one of your logs for example you are using 5 mods in some instances. Please disable all mods as we need you to be trying this in a mod-free vanilla environment as any of these mods could cause an issue. Does this happen in every mode you try or are you only getting this doing something specific?

I appreciate you have said you have tried a number of things but as I'm not sure what they are, please could make sure to do the following:

  • Verify your game files in Steam

  • Right click on Space Engineers in Steam Library → Properties → Local Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files

/bfSnH0rGoN-NgctSWBJN3LfvWZvgnfye9BrPgucxV0n8TDpNc-7yZYwSifdRXyl1quu20KGUNmHzSf6VGRbhWS4a_EYn2MclxJSOz6eVarmz-fhTWVaofVOAVZN_l_leF9dgQ5GF=s0

  • Delete SpaceEngineers.cfg file

  • It means your game configuration will be deleted
  • You can access your SpaceEngineers.cfg by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.

  • Delete ShaderCache folder

  • Back up your whole Space Engineers Roaming folder and delete it
  • Restart Steam
  • Reinstall VC Redist 2017
  • Update graphic drivers
  • Reinstall the game
  • Make sure your operating system is fully updated

I have already done all of these things, and the mods weren't mine. Those logs come from times when I was trying to join a friend's server who had mods, but the same issues happen regardless of whether I have experimental mode on or off, and whether I'm on vanilla or not. Happens in new single-player worlds, and in multiplayer ones.

Every single thing you have listed, I have already done, sometimes more than once, prior to even considering posting here. This is not a "simple fix" issue. I've worked with computers the majority of my life and I know how to troubleshoot. I have reached out to you to get ANSWERS, not simple guides I can find at the top of a google search. Please take this more seriously, I just wasted a lot of money on your game.

Hello, Scott!

Thank you for the update. Another user is experiencing this same issue and my colleague has mentioned the reasons for the particular error you are receiving here https://support.keenswh.com/spaceengineers/pc/topic/crashing_7 [DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED/DeviceRemoved] The error can be quite a few things but is usually pointing to a hardware related error. I would also suggest what my colleague has suggested and try another PC to rule out the current hardware you are using.

I can't reply to the most recent response I got, so I need to reply here.

It absolutely is not a hardware issue. I've been playing far more graphically intensive games than Space Engineers, with no issues even slightly resembling this. If you can't tell me what the real issue is, then please help me get a refund. I literally did not get to play the game for the 2+ hours I spent in it trying to join my friends. I'm over this.

Hello, Scott!

Could you please test the game on a single monitor rather than having the second connected and see if you still result in the same error? It could be a possibility that the second is causing the problem so just want to rule this out :)

If this still causes the same error, could you then try setting the graphical settings to medium and doing another test? Options - Graphics - Quality preset - Medium

Please let us know your findings from these.

Hello, Engineer!

Because there is no new comment from you, and we are unable to reproduce the issue on our own, I will close this thread now as outdated.

If you or any other player will experience this issue again, please make a new thread and provide all needed info there.

Thank you for understanding.
