Low video memory
Not Enough Votes
Hi,
So I have been playing the game for 4 hours now and I like it, but it is a bit unplayable (yes I know its alpha build). It starts with the message "Low video memory" and tells me to lower my graphics settings. I tried to lower them to the point I could count the pixels but it doesn't help. After a few minutes the game crashes. I have looked at the task manager while I'm playing the game and it uses a lot of my RAM memory from what it looks like (I have no clue about computers, first time having this error with a game).
Is there any way to fix it? I attached all my logs down below.
Specs:
- I5-9700f
- 16GB RAM
- 2TB SSD
- Geforce RTX2060

I am on an 5070, 32 GB, Ryzen 7 9700X and in 2k the game rly struggles at high settings. On planets i have 40 FPSish, in space 80-90. This may sound abit like dickwaving but this kind of system should reap apart the game... It is rly unoptimized, leaking memory at hard and will remain such for time-being as big optimizations will come last after water, NPCs, and multiplayer.I expect them to launch heavy optimizations earliest by next summer...

Sometimes the answer is simple enough for me to address. Maybe this time it is.
The *game* requires a minimum of 16gb of RAM.
you have exactly 16gb, which is also being shared with anything else that may be running, including elements of the operating system. Windows uses around 2gb of RAM last i checked (could be more tbh), so lets say you have effectively 14gb of free memory. (or less, idk)
I also have a 5070 and can run the game on max settings at 4k. Lowest fps i have seen is 40 on planets, with a reasonably sized ship around next to my base, so i can agree with that assessment. For an alpha, that's pretty dang good. I typically play on max because it looks so good, it's worth the frame rate cost imo. (Would be nice if it was stable at 60 though)
Plan to buy some more ram, maybe a new GPU. These should be attainable goals by the time SE2 will be "1.0 release", that's many years down the road.
P.s. this is an extremely common misconception. i hope you take this as reassurance that it is not a personal failing that you didn't understand.
