Game random crashes with GPU driver error

Need More Information

Hi,

My game keeps crashing randomly. I was able to play without issue last year.

Specs :

i9-13900k

64GB RAM

Asus ROG Strix 4090

I did lots of research before creating a ticket and i saw a lots of similar tickets, but unresolved. So i tried a bunch of tips but got no luck. I'm up to date (Windows, GPU Driver, MB Bios). I'm able to play heavy game without crash, my GPU is around 65°C so it's not overheating but sometimes i do not need to restart my computer and show me an error like you GC is overclocked or overheating but that's not the case. I monitored it the GC load go at max 70% but the average is 40%.

In logs i can find this :

SharpDX.SharpDXException: HRESULT: [0x887A0005]

I find that could mean that the GPU is busy, but it's at 70% on peak. I don't know what to do more.

I've tried :

check game file

clean install Nvidia driver

Reset Nvidia control panel settings

Disable All Mods/Plugins (not even 10 in total)

Playing in medium

Stress test GPU

Monitoring everything

Even change my motherboard (because i needed more ports) and and full clean Windows 10 install !

So what's next ? Please tell me you've got the solution. I'm done searching by myself it's been 2weeks ago i (re)started SE after a year. Maybe SE do not like 4090 as i'm not the only one.

Thanks for your time,

Hello engineer,

Thank you for reaching out to us on the forum.

After updating your GPU drivers to the latest version, you were able to play the game without issues initially, so could you confirm if the crash started to occur specifically while playing on a certain world? From the provided log, we noticed there are active MODs/Plugins, which might be causing the game to crash when playing on a specific world.

To check this, first remove any Plugins from the game and create a new unmodded/vanilla world (with no active MODs) and see if the issue persists. If the issue continues, please try the following steps;

Verify your game files in Steam

  • Right-click on Space Engineers in Steam Library → Properties → Installed Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files

Delete SpaceEngineers.cfg file

  • It means your game configuration will be deleted
  • You can access your SpaceEngineers.cfg by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.

Delete ShaderCache folder

  • Same access as SpaceEngineers.cfg

Once done, also ensure that your operating system is updated to the latest version. Then, start the game (without any plugins), create a new vanilla world, and see if the issue still occurs. If the issue persists after these steps, please send us the latest log files.

Kind Regards,

Hi Keen's Team,

No i just didn't play enough because on the 'all night run" my ship crashed and i died.

And as i said :

bffcfa701ecc4de391672dff5a9111dd

So yeah I do have mods on, but it crash without them on a clean world so why should i play without mods even for 10 to 90 minutes before a random crash.

So if you really needs those logs (same as here, at least the error lines) i can redo it but it's been 2 weeks i'm on it. C'mon i tried all basics shit even wipe my PC something like 10 times so no more appdata and a clean SE install. Same for SpaceEngineer.cfg as i need to redo my shortcut every time and my SE isn't synchronized with Steam.

Best Regards,

Well happy to see you don't care.

I did a clean world, no mod/plugin, blablabla and then crash. I upload crash logs. Hopefully you'll help this time, exactly same error lines and only in SE.

Best regards.

Hi,

I found a solution.

For Engineers that have the same issue, i did tweak every graphic option and it appears that Flore Density makes nvidia driver crash probably make your GPU busy for too long and Windows do think your GPU is KO and restart your GPU driver (look for "TdrDelay" on Google if you wish to learn more about).

For me going to 1 or under makes the game stable but by default it's on 3...

I think there is something wrong with it because as of today RTX 4090 are the best GPU for private customers.

Hopefully it will help someone ! :)
