No more "Engine break"

Reported

I spend several 100 hours developing a fully automated tram system that relies on timer based wheel commands. Since there is no usefull way to break via timer I used to reduce the speed limit incrementally down to zero. Even then it did travel a long way until it dropped to a safe speed to connect. Since I need it to be very slow (way under 5m/s, the smallest possible speed limit by timer)

While this is an older iteration, this process is demonstrated in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vRgioNnwt48

I have a fully automated implementation on my survival server, where it ran 24/7 for several weeks back and forth a line.

It all changed when the Fire Nation Attacked... ok, when you published the Warfare 1 update 198. Now when the top speed isn't changed it doesn't bleed enough speed anymore, almost none when I set the top speed from 5 m/s to 0 m/s. This is not listed as one of the changes in the updates and most likely a side effect of one of the listed changes to the wheels.

I really only found out about that when after a month of taking a break from the project I wanted to finally publish the tram and the easy to use rail system to the workshop - thus the delay in reporting here.

Hello, SarahAndreaRoyce!

Sorry to hear you're experiencing this issue. Thank you for providing the video with the demonstration. If I read this correctly, you haven't yet published the workshop item. Is it possible to provide a means of testing this? Do you have a save/world I could look at with how it is reacting now? This way I can compare it to the video :)

  • You can access your save files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Saves. There should be a folder with your SteamID and your saves.
  • Please zip the file and attach it here. If you are having difficulty attaching files you can optionally use Google Drive. When sharing a google drive link please make sure it is set to be downloadable by anyone with the link.

Kind Regards

Attached is my Creative World were I created it. The black and yellow tracks are the easiest to test it (there are no signals or stations, but you can steer via the number commands)

Hello, SarahAnddreaRoyce!

Thank you for providing the save file - that's great. Do you have some reliable steps for reproducing this? Also, I notice that you have a few mods on here. Are you getting the same result without the use of mods? (Just to check mods are not causing your issue)

Kind Regards

Hello Laura. Sorry, I didn't refresh the page as I thought you guys go in your well earned weekend. I only activated two quality of life mods, every build in that world is vanilla. So it should be no problem to take them away.

The other question is harder to answer, because I'd have to explain how the tram works (complex) while it doesn't work ;-) I guess I'll try to make a video over the weekend cross cut with some older scenes from when it was working properly.

As promised I made a further save and a video describing what it is about and how to reproduce the bug. The save file is the 1.197 one in the first 2/3rds of video - where everything still works when opened with the pre Warfare version.

Hello, SarahAndreaRoyce!

Thank you so much for the new save file and excellent explanatory video - that was a huge help! :) I have successfully reproduced the issue and reported it internally.

Kind Regards

The next update, Heavy Industry, did not fix it. You cannot believe how disappointed I am in this company right now. This bug required a simple role back, it affects way more than the problem demonstrated, the whole "set a top speed for wheels" doesn't work anymore. You present tons of mod content or creative that cannot be implemented rationally for the majority of survival players, yet when one tries to make something really good that can benefit everyone without access to mods or even experimental mode - what actually should be the safest way to build to boot with and you don't even care.
