Grids with attached subgrids sinking while in natural gravity

George Zeng shared this bug 3 years ago
Solved

Grids that have subgrids attached will begin to sink at approximately 0.25 m/s while in a planet's natural gravity. Even if thrusters can adequately compensate normally for any additional weight, grids will sink if there are grids attached via rotors or hinges.

Hello, George!

Thanks for letting us know about issue you are experiencing. However I was not able to reproduce it. Having two ships, one with hinge, one with rotor, both working normally. Do you use small grid ship, or big one? What´s the setting of your rotor/hinge? Do you have dampers on or off on that particular ship? Any other special objects on the ship? Did you try it on Earth or some other planet? Are you using any mods, or running vanilla game?

Best way for us to test it precisely and with that one build you have, would be either BP of your ship that you can share with us, or even save of your world (that would probably be the best).

You can access your save files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Saves. There should be a folder with your SteamID and your saves.

Please zip the file and attach it here. If you are having difficulty attaching files you can optionally use Google Drive. When sharing a google drive link please make sure it is set to be downloadable by anyone with the link.

Kind Regards

After putting down a hinge, I would add a small head and construct a small grid, and without fail, the entire build would begin to sink.

This is one of my constructions that seems to be experiencing this problem. It was pasted into an unmodded, vanilla world and in the gravity wells of several planets with similar results. Intertial dampers were on and would function normally without the subgrids, and no additional movement was detected while in space

Just going to leave this here, in case this one goes 2 more years after being reproduced before being closed as a duplicate of a newer post.

Two years since this bug was reported, I am still experiencing it today.

It happens to me too, but only sometimes. And it is hard to reproduce sometimes, with exact same situation and blueprint, next day or next week. Deep hidden error in program logic with same named array C# variant ? :-D

Since the last update this bug has got worse, the usual workaround of turning off power completely on subgrids to prevent the sinking no longer works and the large ship slowly sinks while having subgrids landed in it regardless of their power state.

My atmospheric large ship now cannot go into the atmosphere after this latest update - please please please fix this bug Keen!

Thanks :)

Apparently this bug will be fixed in the next major release:

Guess once this hits I can start playing Space Engineers again.

I am still experiencing it - my welder ship with welders/grinders on advanced rotors does not stay in the air hovering even so there is enough thrust and simply sinks in the same way as reported years ago.
