Solved
I was playing solo twice now (Friends can join but none have) and randomly encountered this error which kicks me back to the main menu.
The problem for me was that the MTU in my router was set to 1400. This is the actual fragmentation size for my ISP but same games (like Raft, Risk of Rain 2, and Space Engineers) are coded to completely lose their mind if it is not set to the default of 1500. Putting it back to 1500, even though the WISP gateway hacks the packets up and puts them back together, was the solution for me.

My ISP does not block any IPs and their hardware only intercepts port 8080 which, to the best of my knowledge, Space Engineers does not use.
That said, I cannot loopback my IP (e.g. <WAN IP>:80 gives a 404 for me (but works for everyone on the internet) but <LAN IP>:80 works for me. Any attempts to access my public IP from my network gives 404. If Space Engineers is doing this (which would be really weird), it could explain why it's not working for me. For example, if it is asking a server for my public IP, then tries to *test* accessing my public IP, the *test* will always fail even though anyone on the outside trying to connect to my public IP will succeed.

Same here, just started happening to me randomly. I noticed that it is related to Steam getting disconnected for a second, then after a few seconds the game kicks you (even the host) to the main menu. Very annoying if the last autosave was a long time ago.
