Sensors do not detect players who are sitting in a chair, couch, or cockpit.

Philip Heinike shared this bug 3 years ago
Solved

Sensors, when set to detect players, are unable to detect players who are sitting in any kind of chair.

This is not only annoying when building an automatic lithing system, (anytime you sit the lights go out) but also for any kind of ship boarding scenario. Enemy players can effectively shield themselves from sensors by sitting down.

That alone makes sensors useless when trying to detect players.

I therefore propose: sensors, when set to detect players, should also check for occupied seats within range.

Philip

Hello, Phillip!

Thank you for the report. I am just looking into this now and wondered if you're able to provide that world at all to have a look at? It looks like a great example for testing.

  • You can access your save files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Saves. There should be a folder with your SteamID and your saves.
  • Please zip the file and attach it here. If you are having difficulty attaching files you can optionally use Google Drive. When sharing a google drive link please make sure it is set to be downloadable by anyone with the link.

Hi,

thanks for the answer. the world should be attached here.

PS: I posted this on Reddit too and someone thought this could be a feature. (i do not know with what purpose) In that case, there should be an option to detect players in seats.

Hello, Phillip!

Thank you for providing the save file so quickly :) that was a huge help! I have successfully reproduced the issue and reported it internally.

I would see a conflict when you have a sensor only set to detect ships, (aka, to turn on repair welders), and a sensor to detect players (aka, to turn them off for safety reasons) ... if you fly the ship over, what is going to trip them? The player is protected inside the cockpit, so it would seem silly to have a sensor trip for someone who is inside a cockpit ... hmm ... catch22s abound.

Hey @Frigidman,

I did not think of that.

Since we now have a scenario where both options have considerable up- and downsides, there should be an option to toggle off/on the detection of players inside seats.

Issue still there. I have a sensor that depresurises a the cockpit when near the door, nowhere near my flight seat. it shouldn't even trigger when i'm not near the door. but whenever i seat in the flight seat the room depresurises ..
