Constant 'Graphics driver crash' while playing official server.

Pyrald Lystent shared this bug 2 years ago
Won't Fix

As the title says, as of current version of the game, I have experienced numerous crash to desktops with the same error message. These crashes occur while I was at a mars base on an official NA server. The base had numerous grids, and a safe zone.

I was also able to get a temperature readout of 53c at the moment of the crash, thanks to MSI afterburner, which I had running on a second monitor for such an event.

Hello, Pyrald,

thanks for contacting us regarding your issue.

From the log, it rather seems that the issue might arose from you GPU. Are you sure you have the most up-to-date drivers for your card? If yes, but this issue is still happening, can you please re-install them (like... full clean install of the most recent drivers).

Is you graphic card overclocked possibly? If yes, can you revert it back to the default settings?

Other things you can try are:

  • Verify your game files in Steam (right click on Space Engineers in Steam Library → Properties → Local Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files)
  • Delete SpaceEngineers.cfg file (it means your game configuration will be deleted); you can access your SpaceEngineers.cfg by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.
  • Delete ShaderCache folder located on the same place as described above
  • Back up your whole Space Engineers Roaming folder (so you won´t lose e.g. your saves, blueprints) and delete it

  • Restart Steam

  • Reinstall VC Redist 2017

  • Reinstall the game

  • Make sure your operating system is fully updated

Kind Regards

I've done a fresh driver install. The driver I was using is noted in the log. I also do not apply any overclocking to my processors. I'll get back if I get any findings. Not an easy crash to predict.

I haven't had anymore crashes. I'll be reverting to the previous driver to see if that was the problem.

Hello, Pyrald,

that´s great! Let me know if you will experience it again.

Ok, so it was not the driver AFAIK; reverting it did not bring back the crashes. IDK what caused the crashes. You may have to investigate...

Not too soon after I said that, I had another crash. Gonna swap to a new driver and try it for longer.

Hello, Pyrald,

any news on your side? Does you manage to fix the issue by doing again some of the steps provided in first comment from me? Did that fix the issue for you permanently, temporally or not at all?

Are you still experiencing the crash in the same manner as before or did something change?

I know you wrote you are playing on the official server, so asking for save would not lead to success. But you think you can provide the blueprints? Are you doing anything special at/near the base, that possibly triggers the crash, or is it random?

You can access your blueprints files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Blueprints. Select the correct folder where your blueprint is saved (local or cloud), zip the file and attach it here.

Thanks in advance.

I just suffered another of these crashes, this time with the new driver. Next I'll delete shader cache.

And it crashed again.

This time in a creative world with a skybox mod.

I have decided to stop this run-around. Sorry. I am done with your games.
