Beacon's are transmitting Ore Detector findings, should only happen with Antennas

Frigidman shared this bug 3 years ago
Solved

Setup: (easier to reproduce in Creative mode)

  • Place a battery next to an ore deposit,
  • Put an Ore Detector off the battery,
  • Put a Beacon on the top,

Now fly out 1km, and you will STILL see the ore deposit findings by the Ore Detector.

-- Why is a "Beacon Block" transmitting signals, when all it should* be transmitting is its own location (ie, a Beacon vs full-support Antenna)?

-- Only Antenna's should be broadcasting other signals, including Ore Detectors, Players antennas, Ship antennas, etc.

*Should: If the Beacon is behaving exactly like an Antenna, what's the point of the Beacon.

In-game texts:

"A beacon is used to broadcast its position." (thats all it should do!)

"Antennas can be used to broadcast positions, messages, HUD markers, and allows grids to be accessed or controlled from a distance. Antennas need to be able to send and receive, so make sure two antennas always overlap each other's position."

Hello, Frigidman,

thanks for letting us know about this one. It was indeed successfully reproduced and therefore put into our internal system.

Not a bug. Working as intended. Antenna allows 2way communication ie. remote control and transmitting signals acquired wirelessly . Beacon transmits only its location and signals from its own grid. Beacon cannot receive a wireless signal. Block descriptions just suck, like blast door having same text as light armor block.

The "fix" would be to adjust the beacon's description text to include that it broadcasts nearby information too :D lol

That would mean Keen coming up with some text. That will take years considering that it takes months to change one number (bug was reported through other means shortly after Warfare update) https://support.keenswh.com/spaceengineers/pc/topic/interior-turret-deals-damage-in-only-400m-range-after-warfare-update-firing-still-at-800m
