KEYBOARD freezes completely except for alt tab (steam disscusion posting)

Thank you for reaching out to us, and we’re sorry to hear about the issue you’ve been experiencing.

To help us understand the issue better, could you please share a few more details? For example, does the keyboard freeze only while you are actively playing in a world (for example flying, welding, grinding, etc.), or does it also happen while you are in the game menus, such as the main menu?

Do you recall if this started happening recently, or has it been occurring since you first installed the game?

It would also help to know how your keyboard is connected to your device. Is it connected via USB/cable, wireless/Bluetooth, or is it the integrated keyboard of a laptop?

Additionally, does this issue occur in other games as well, or only while playing Space Engineers?

If you are using any third-party tools or software that could potentially interfere with keyboard input (for example overlays, input tools, or macros), please try temporarily disabling them and see if that makes any difference.

You can also try the troubleshooting steps listed below;

Verify your game files in Steam

• Right-click on Space Engineers in Steam Library → Properties → Installed Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files

Delete ShaderCache folder

• To do this, type %appdata% into the Windows search bar, which will take you to the hidden Roaming folder, then navigate to \Roaming\SpaceEngineers

Please also make sure your Operating System is fully updated and delete the SpaceEngineers.cfg file as well.

After trying the steps above, please launch the game again, create a new/fresh unmodded/vanilla world and check whether the issue still occurs. If it does, please send us the log file from the time the issue happened. If possible, a screen recording/video showing the issue would also be very helpful.

• You can access your log files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.

This information will help us investigate the issue further.

SE program only freezes keyboard while actively in a game, main menu is stable

when issue occurs it could be 3 mins of game play OR it could be broken when the game finishes loading (normal loading time frames)

after issue begins i can look around with mouse, place block that is in my hand / weld/grind/dig with tool in my hand

i can also do what ever i want in control panel when i am in control panel when it starts acting up

but once i exit control panel i have NO ability to use my keyboard as an input, MOUSE ONLY

volume scroll wheel thing on keyboard works and volume indicator on screen shows up and volume DOES change

ALT + TAB is the Only other keyboard responsiveness available

windows key is dead, F1-12 keys dead, num pad dead, everything Except volume wheel and Alt+Tab

once i change screens ALL IS WELL, totally usable; i have typed all my issues tickets and discussion things on the Exact keyboard WHILE game is running and frozen in background

ONLY in active game is there an issue

i have tested in other save file games, in save file without mods, in New save file

nothing changed the locking up of my keyboard after -1secs / 3ish mins of game play

the issue start march 3rd? 2026, most recent steam auto update (432B update file size). i played Sat Sun and Mon, logged on Tues steam auto updated - issue started.

keyboard is USB wired to back of motherboard, i have tried 1 additional wired keyboard, in multiple USB slots in motherboard.

i have tried one other game at this point (The Forest - steam based) no issue for 15 min basic test.

steam overlay is the only thing i have ever had active, mouse and keyboard are only items plugged into PC, NO MACROs.

i do use a G600 logitech mouse with 11 buttons on the side but i have uused this mouse for like 2 years now with no issues.

i have reinstalled game from STEAM twice, verified files after second re-install

I WILL delete Shader Cache in a few days when i get back home and retest

i have checked inside Device Manager that all items have the up-to-date Drivers, AND the only windows updates available since issue started have been Windows 11 Defender updates (they have been INSTALLED)

this is the LOG file a discord friend asked to see and they said it was the helpful LOG INFO??

idk what all that stuff means but im sure yall do :)

ok i have tried deleting the shader cache2 folder and then starting the game

no change in issue insta-lock on keyboard functionality

i did check and the shader cache was back in the roaming/spaceengineers folder but it was now at the bottom of the folder instead of the top/middle of the list where i deleted it from

So unfortunately I am still without the ability to play the game....
