Cargo Ship Events Failing to Spawn in Dedicated Servers

In dedicated servers, cargo ships are consistently failing to spawn. I first noticed this while setting up a dedicated server hosted through G-Portal. On that server, I've tested with a configuration made for crossplay, both with and without mods (all other tests are without mods), in the Home System scenario (using EOS), and with the default settings in the Star System scenario (using Steam). In the latter case, I've tested both on the planet's surface, and in space.


I've also tested by hosting a dedicated server locally, using the GUI server client.


In all cases, in the log file, I have observed the game attempting to spawn a cargo ship encounter, and failing three times before giving up, as shown here:

I have not seen a single cargo ship spawn successfully on any dedicated server I have played on using the current version of the game.


I believe this is the exact same issue as reported in this thread and this thread. I also believe the issue is not related to Torch or to any mods.


Steps to Reproduce

  1. Using the dedicated server software, create a dedicated server running Star System with default settings, except for a defined admin, server name, and world name.
  2. Join the server.
  3. Spawn in EarthLike respawn pod.
  4. Wait for a while on the planet's surface.
  5. Keep an eye on the log file. Within 10-30 minutes (by my observations), the server should attempt to spawn a cargo ship event, failing and reattempting twice, before giving up. This will show in the log as in the above code block.
  6. On the same server, go out to space and repeat the experiment. Wait for the server to attempt to spawn a cargo ship event.


SpaceEngineers-Dedicated.cfg and several log files are contained in the attached zip.

Thanks for reporting this issue and for providing the details!

We're currently working on a major update that includes a significant overhaul of Cargo Ship functionality, along with improved logging that should help identify any related issues more easily.

This update is scheduled for release on Monday 28th of April. Once it's live, please give it another try and see if the issue still occurs on your dedicated server setup. If it does, we’d really appreciate it if you could open a new ticket and include any logs or additional info available after the update.
