Good morning,

I hope all is well. I am currently having trouble with Space Engineers. While playing, the game will either crash and lock up the computer or crash and close. Please help me diagnose the issue. I have attached the logs for you. I have also supplied my current dxdiag file as well. If there is anything else I can provide, please let me know.

My Setup:

Windows 11 Home

Version 24H2

Intel Core i9-14900KF 3.20 GHz

64 GB RAM

Nvidia RTX 4090

Current NVidia Driver: 566.36

Thank you in advance.

Hello Ross,

Thank you for reaching out to us on the forum. We sincerely apologize for the issue you’ve been experiencing.

After reviewing the logs, it appears that the crash is related to a "SharpDX.SharpDXException" error. We've had similar reports in the past, and some players have resolved this issue by setting their grass density to 0. Could you please try this workaround and let us know if it helps?

To do this:

  1. Go to the game’s main menu.
  2. Navigate to Options > Graphics.
  3. Adjust the Grass Density slider to 0.
  4. Press OK to save the changes.

Afterward, check if the crash still occurs.

If this resolves the issue, we understand that setting grass density to 0 may affect your gaming experience, though unfortunately, this is currently the only known workaround until we implement a permanent fix for this issue.

However, if the issue persists, we recommend trying to lower the Quality Preset to Low or Medium in Options > Graphics, and see if this makes a difference (make sure that the grass density is still set to 0).

If the crash continues, please share the latest log file from the time of the crash.

Kind Regards,

Good morning,

Thank you for your quick response. I will try the workaround as you have requested. I am hoping a permanent fix comes out sooner as you are correct, it does affect the gaming experience. I will post the latest log file with grass set to zero and try changing quality presets.

I was keeping an eye out for future updates. I have heard that there are a few new updates being pushed soon. Do you know if a fix for this is coming? If so, how soon do you think it will be before the situation is resolved?

I understand that Space Engineers 2 is a high priority right now. I understand if this fix is not currently possible and I know it could be very time consuming to resolve.

I have played Space Engineers on my previous system and did not experience these same problems. I miss being able to play this game as you guys have done a great job with it. I look forward to being able to play it again.

While waiting for a fix, I have purchased the Pioneer Edition of Space Engineers 2. I am very much enjoying it and appreciate what your team has done with it. The only crash I have had on it was when I crashed my ship into another ship. lol. Other than that, the game runs great. I understand the game is currently in alpha and bugs are expected.

Thanks again for your time. I will try my best to try what you have requested and get the log files for Space Engineers One. I appreciate your time in this matter and look forward to working with you further.

Sincerely,

Ross

Merci boucher,

Thanks for the reply. I have came to the same conclusion. I believe it is a memory leak in the VRAM as it does not free the memory. I have read about this error from multiple other reports. It seems bug has been going on for years and has not been fixed yet. It is a shame since I really enjoy this game very much.

Keen Software House,

I can confirm that reducing grass to 0 stops the crashing, however this should not be a permanent solution to the problem. Do we have a timeline as to when this issue will be fixed with a patch?

The game looks horrendous without grass. I understand that it stops the crash, but does not solve the issue properly.

Thanks for your time and effort looking into this matter.

Regards,

Ross
