Game Crashes when trying to log in near Asteroids.

Rhonda shared this bug 18 months ago
Won't Fix

Every single time I try to log into the Game when I am within 300 meters of an asteroid, my game crashes. I have to have my husband shove my body into space, or move my ship farther away. This has been happening since the announcement of the automatons patch.

Here is the log files of my last attempt.

If you have a heat vent block which is set 0% power dependency, there's issue now.

Please check this bug report.

https://support.keenswh.com/spaceengineers/pc/topic/28222-heat-vent-battery-solar-panel-combo-causing-freeze

If you're a person in this matter, simply, remove those heat vents by using SEToolbox.

Am not using a Heat Vent Block - do have Air Vent Blocks - but this has been happening since before these blocks were a thing. We did not play in the experimental mode.

Hello, Rhonda,

I am very sorry you are experiencing this issue. I tried to log in near asteroids but my game did not crash. Are you playing on your own dedicated server or in one of the Official ones? If you are playing on your own, can you please share your save with me?

  • You can access your save files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineersDedicated\Saves. There should be a folder with your SteamID and your saves.
  • Please zip the file and attach it here. If you are having difficulty attaching files you can optionally use Google Drive. When sharing a google drive link please make sure it is set to be downloadable by anyone with the link.

I also did not find the crash in your log. Can you please share your log from the time of the crash with me? It is in the same Roaming- SpaceEngineersDedicated folder.

Thank you in advance.

Kind regards,

We play on official servers. It happens on both the Steam and EoS servers. My husband does not crash either. He can even log in, while inside an asteroid.

If I'm within 300 meters when trying to log in, my game will -normally- reach the splash screen with the Message of the Day, but it has not yet rendered the world for me. It will then lock up and freeze there and I have to force quite or restart my machine. Or it reaches the MotD and then just shuts it's self off. When the game freezes there, my Graphics card also starts to spin up hard. Sometimes the game will actually "crash" and I will get prompted with the crash report, but most of the time I do not.

These are all the logs from the crash attempts from the last two days.

Hello,

thank you for the logs. The exception in you log is a generic DirectX error indicating that the GPU driver is crashing/has crashed. I would suggest you to update your graphic drivers (clean install), you can also try to switch GPU driver settings to high-performance. This could be also a HW issue, please check your GPU temperature.

You can also try to lower your settings in game so it needs less memory to run.

Please, let me know if you are still experiencing this issue.

Thank you in advance.

I don't think I can turn my graphics down any lower. :( but i will look into the crashing.

my husband had his first experience with the same sort of crashes last night. he was mining and the server restarted and then he couldnt get back into that one.

Hello,

if you cannot lower the graphics anymore, could you please send me your dxdiag? Just follow this guide: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/open-and-run-dxdiag-exe-dad7792c-2ad5-f6cd-5a37-bf92228dfd85 and send me the file you will find.

You can also try to rename the appdata/Roaming/SpaceEngineers file to something else (for example from SpaceEngineers to SpaceEngineers- backup) and see if you can then generate new cfg. file and shadecache when you launch the game (there will be newly generated SpaceEngineers file). The newly generated file will have default settings. If your problem will not be resolved by this you can change the name back afterwards and delete the newly generated file.

Lastly you can try to verify your game files in Steam

-Right click on Space Engineers in Steam Library → Properties → Local Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files

Thank you for letting me know what happened after these steps.

Kind regards,
