[01_187_205] Please apply windows updates and update to latest graphics drivers.

The_Jan shared this bug 6 years ago
Won't Fix

For a few updates now, I am unable to start the game;

- I press play in the Steam library page

- I see splash screen

- Then a small window appears with the title "space engineers"

- I hear the typical menu music

- A msgbox appears that says I need to "apply windows updates etc.."

- Pressing ok, let me fill in a bug report and then the SE window closes.

The log-files is in the attachment.

Please help, it's been some time now since I was able to play SE. I'm suffering from withdrawal symptoms: like looking for my welder when making coffee etc ;)

Hello,

Are you sure your windows and graphic drivers are updated? If you look in the log, there is missing version of your graphic driver, I would try to reinstall graphic card drivers as it seems it could be the issue.

Hi,

Here an update on the problem:

- Went to NVIDIA site and downloaded "399.07-desktop-win10-64bit-international-whql-rp.exe"

- Chose to install driver-only, and enabled "perform clean install of drivers" (just in case any leftovers of previous drivers caused the issue). This was completed successfully.

- I restarted the computer

- Then went to Windows Update and checked if my computer was up-to-date. This was correct.

- Then started Steam, and to be sure, I "Verify the integrity of files" of Space Engineers. This was all ok.

- I started SE, and the same stuff happened as in my first post. Nothing changed.

Here are the log files for this trial. ( Why is there an OpenVR log file? I dont have my VR headset attached at the moment, not SteamVR running when I start SE. Do you think that some old VR code is interfering with normal startup? )

Thank you for helping already. I hope we can get this fixed.

Hello again,

I just saw that NVidia has published a new driver as of today. The 399.24 WHQL, so I did the same thing as the last post with the newest driver, but no change :(

The log-files still dont show a driver version or date. But I dont know if that's normal with other people. Can you check if that field is always filled in with other bugreports?

Hello,

Have you been able to check the code to see if a disconnected VR headset interferes with starting the game?!

I still cant play the game with the same error.

I tried installing the newest nvidia driver, with/without Geforce Experience (both dont change anything), with/without 'clean install' etc. My win10x64 is up to date.

Is there anything else I can do?

This bugreport has status "Need more information". What more information can I give you guys?

Thank you,

Jan

Hello,

Here is another bugreport on the same issue:

  • Checked if my nvidia driver was the latest:
    795fe28984f0f3d961c6738188af3456
  • Checked if my win10x64 is up to date:
    d7dbfb625a6f4806cc9ecf49d5865f44
  • I checked if Space Engineers files are ok:
    ab613d470956cf660f05071d15dc6a39
  • Tried to run SE, but got this :
    ececc9b05653aa18aaa4ffbe59149776
(just a small window, music playing, and the messagebox)

I attached the logfiles.

Here are my 2 questions:

  1. This bugreport has status "Need more information". What more information can I give you guys?
  2. Why is there a VRage-openVR.log ? I am not trying to run SE in VR.

Thank you for any help in this matter,

Jan

Hi

Any update on this issue?

  • I updated to the latest nvidia 411.x drivers release 27 september.
  • Installed latest windows updates for september
  • updates the game
  • verified all files

Still the same problem.

Is there anything else I can check? Do you want me to try something out and report the log files?

Why is there a VRage-openVR.log file? I am not trying VR.

Latest log files are included.

Please help me! I still can not play the game !! I am unsure what to do! I want to help!

Hello, Engineers!

As this thread is rather old, as well as last comments, let me please ask first of all whether any of you are still experiencing it nowadays (v1.97.181)?

If yes - how´s the current behavior? Did it changed anyhow through the time?

If no - thanks for confirming. It´s likely to be fixed through the time and various game updates.

Thanks you in advance for your reply - either confirming that you are no longer suffering with this issue, or disproving it and updating the current status and behavior.

Kind Regards

Hello, Simeon,

thanks for coming back.

Yet, I´m lacking some more information from you.

First of all, if you can share your log that is generated, that would be nice. Are you sure your PC is meeting the minimum requirements in order to run SE? The_Jan is speaking about VR, while he is not using it, nor having it connected to PC while trying to run the game; there is VR log from him. Is it the same for you as well? Does it have anything in common with using VR?

You can access your log files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.

In this folder, you can also try to delete SharedCache folder and SpaceEngineers.cfg file (it means your game configuration will be deleted). If none of this works, you can also back up your whole Space Engineers Roaming folder and delete it. Upon running the game, this whole folder will be created anew (you´ll loose your saves and mods, though - that´s why you shall back it up, so you can restore it later).

Did you try to verify the integrity of the game through Steam? Are you running Steam in online or offline mode? Did you try to uninstall the game completely, getting rid of all residual files in steam game folder and install it again freshly?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

Thank you for answering Ondrej.

PC specs are: i7 9700k(OC off), gtx 1080ti(OC off), 16gb of ram(XMP enabled). I installed game few days ago and it cant initialize itself (first time playing). So, some possible problems, I will play on 4k resolution and I am switching between gpu drivers. When I am in ubunt I have drive for machine learning and on windows is geforce game ready driver. Some games had problems with higher resolutions and with gpu drivers I had some problems with windows not in particular with games. I verified files, same problem. Steam is in online mode.

Thank you.

Hello, Engineers!

it´s already quite long time from when this issue was originally posted as well as from the last comment.

Are you still experiencing it? Or was it fixed in the meantime.

Thanks in advance for confirming me current situation.

Hello, Engineers!

Because there is no new comment from you, and we are unable to reproduce the issue on our own, I will close this thread now as outdated.

If you or any other player will experience this issue again, please make a new thread and provide all needed info there.

Thank you for understanding.

Yes, I have that same issue. Unable to solve it. When I fix it (i dont know how) it brokes the next time I want to launch the game. I saw in another comment that they had VR but not active, I used them in this computer but unplugged, could it be something of that part of the problem? I deleted the Shaders file, the cfg and verifyed the hard disk and steam. TY

Kind Regards,

Carlos

I even deleted my whole workshop.... But that was not the issue. This happened to me for around two years. Everytime I came back to play, I finally abandon cos I cannot play without making a whole mess every time I want to launch

I think I've solved it. When you launch the game from another Hard Drive, not from C: but from F:/G: I think that creates the error...
