Need More Information

I attempted to play a game tonight and I keep getting a message saying that my game was unable to load and to check the logs. sending log files, I am not a much of a tech person so skimming the logs just looks like a bunch of unintelligeable lines.

Hello Bryan,

Thank you for sharing your log.

After reviewing the log, it seems that the issue you're experiencing appears to be caused by a disk read error (cyclic redundancy check), which typically means that a file the game is trying to load is corrupted or unreadable. This can occur due to a corrupted MOD, a damaged game installation, or an issue with the drive where the game is installed.

Additionally, the TryChangeToFullscreen failed error in the log is likely graphics driver-related and may be triggered during resolution or display mode changes. Here are a few steps you can try:

Verify the game files via Steam to ensure none of the base game files are corrupted :

  • Right-click on Space Engineers in Steam Library → Properties → Installed Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files

Disable all mods temporarily or try launching a new or different save. This can help determine if the issue is tied to a specific world or mod.

Update your operating system and graphics drivers, and try launching the game in windowed mode to bypass the fullscreen error:

If you can open the game, go to Options > Display > Window Mode, then select Window from the dropdown. Click OK, and then load a save.

If the game doesn’t open, you can manually edit the configuration file:

- Open the Run dialog (Windows key + R) and type appdata to access the Roaming folder.

- Navigate to: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers\SpaceEngineers.cfg.

- Open the file using a text editor like Notepad. Look for these lines:

<Key>WindowMode</Key>

<Value>

<Value xsi:type="xsd:string">1</Value>

</Value>

Change the value to, 0 for Windowed. 1 for Fullscreen Window, 2 for Fullscreen. Save the file and try launching the game again.

Disable any GPU overclocks or background overlays (like Steam, Discord, or GeForce Experience), as these can sometimes cause instability during fullscreen transitions.

Let us know if any of these steps help resolve the issue for you.

Kind Regards,

Thank you for the response and suggestions. I worked through all the steps you suggested to no avail I kept getting "unable to load world error". I finally uninstalled, deleted the remanet folders from both the Steam common apps and from the appdata roaming diriectories. After the install the game is working as intended. Must have been a bad a sector on my HDD. Thank you again for your time.
