Solved

Hello, help me solve the problem: when trying to connect to any servers, it says that the server owner left the game although the servers are online, it is solved by rebooting the PC, the error appears randomly if before the engineers I was playing something else, no pattern was found.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello Maksim,

Thank you for sharing the log file with us!

Based on the log and your description, the issue seems related to how your system or Steam handles network sessions when switching between games. It’s possible that some cached network data or background processes get stuck, affecting how Space Engineers communicates with servers.

Here are a few things you can try:

Fully restart Steam (instead of rebooting the whole PC) - this often resets network sessions and fixes the problem:

  • Close all Steam-related processes using Task Manager (steam.exe, GameOverlayUI.exe, etc.).
  • Then relaunch Steam before starting Space Engineers.

Run Steam and the game as Administrator - this can help avoid permission issues that may block proper connections.

Temporarily disable the Steam Overlay

  • Go to Steam > Settings > In-Game, and uncheck "Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game".
  • Restart the game and try joining again.

Wait a few minutes after switching from another game before joining a server - this allows your system to fully reset network states.

Try joining servers directly from Steam’s server list instead of through the in-game menu

  • You can do this by going to View > Servers in Steam and adding the server to your favorites.

Please let us know if any of these steps help, or if the issue keeps happening consistently.

Kind Regards,

Keen Software House: QA Department

Hello Maksim,

Thank you for reaching out to us on the forum. We’re sorry to hear about the issue you’re experiencing.

The "server owner left the game" message may indicate that Space Engineers is unable to properly establish or maintain a connection with the server. To help resolve this, please follow the steps below:

  1. Exit the Game: Close the game and Steam. Open the Task Manager and end all tasks related to Space Engineers.
  2. Clear Cache: Type %appdata% into your Windows search bar to access the hidden Roaming folder. From there, navigate to %APPDATA%\SpaceEngineers\Cache and delete its contents.
  3. Disable Firewall/Antivirus Temporarily: Temporarily turn off your firewall or antivirus software.
  4. Disable VPN (if active): If you are using a VPN, disable it.
  5. Update Network Drivers and Operating System: Ensure your network drivers and operating system are fully updated.
  6. Switch to Wired Connection: If you are connected via Wi-Fi, switch to a wired connection. Restart your router after turning it off for a few minutes.
  7. Verify Game Files: Right-click on Space Engineers in Steam Library → Properties → Installed Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files

After completing these steps, restart the game and try joining one of Keen’s official servers to see if the issue persists. If the issue only occurs on a specific server, it may be an issue with that server.

However if the issue still occurs on our official servers, please send us the log file from the time the issue occurred.

  • You can access your log files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.

Hello, nothing helps.,

- I don't use a vpn at all,

- I checked the game files, everything is clean,

- there are no mods or anything else.

- the cache folder is clean.

restarting the PC will help - 100%, but I would like not to restart the PC after every time I play something other than engineers before they start.

maybe there are logs in the game, or how can you see why it gives this error?

Sorry, is there anyone else here?

I still need help with the game, I deleted it and reinstalled it, the problem did not go away. I think I attached the logs to the request earlier.

Guys, it's been 6 months already, can you at least change the status of the application? Ideally, of course, I would like to get a solution to the problem, I didn't find it on the Internet because similar problems for players are solved by themselves.

Hello, thank you, a full restart of Steam helped, can you help with the formulation of the problem for Steam technical support?

I don’t really understand the technical side of the issue, but I want to write to them, maybe they will help fix it.

Hello Maksim,

Thank you for your reply and for confirming that a full Steam restart helped resolve the issue.

Could you please also let us know if you tried any of the other workarounds mentioned in our previous response, or was restarting Steam the only solution that worked for you?

Since this issue appears to be related to Steam’s network session handling and not caused directly by Space Engineers, it’s a good idea to reach out to Steam Support.

When contacting them, you can simply describe what you already shared with us, that after playing another game, you sometimes receive a "server owner left the game" error when trying to connect to Space Engineers servers, and that fully restarting Steam temporarily resolves it.

Please also mention that it may be related to how Steam handles cached network sessions or background processes when switching between games.

For now, if you agree, we can proceed to close this thread. You’re always welcome to open a new thread in the future and refer to this one in your description if Steam Support needs any additional information from us, or if you encounter further issues.

Thank you for your understanding and patience.

Kind Regards,
