Mario Abou Samra shared this bug 4 years ago
Won't Fix

I've played the game before yesterday and it was all fine it had no problem what so ever.. but today it doesnt seem to work.. the second the startup loading screen is done the game crashes and it give me a pop up error saying that my graphics card is malfunctioning due to either overheating or overclocking and that i should update my driver.. my graphics driver was last updated on dec 2019 but i did update it to the latest release, i restarted my PC and tried to open the game again but this time i skipped the startup loading screen.. but the same thing happened.. i have a GTX 1070 Ti and its temperature was at 36 degrees celcius.. (i dont know how to attach my logs but i did send them like 3 times and one of them i wrote a note with my email mario.samra@hotmail.com).. please tell me what i should do to fix this

hello! thank you for the reply, before i do that i'd like to note that the game has since worked after that.. what i did for it to work tho was:

- i started the game

- i skipped the startup loading screen by clicking Esc

- i immediately jumped into my saved game

and that was that.. the game did not crash but id like to highlight that for some reason my graphics settings was changed? because i always had grass off completely but when i entered my save grass was all the way at max settings.. i dont know if thats whats causing the crash but my PC can handle the game at its max settings.. i just have the grass off to be able to see the ores and the landscape better.

Anyway, i'll describe step by step what i did to get the same crash 4 times:

- i booted my PC, opened steam as usual

- i started space engineers (note that i have the same apps in the background always open those are discord, spotify and NZXT CAM)

- i did not skip the startup loading screen BUT it was lagging.. the animation of KEEN software house was lagging for some reason as if it was buffering

shortly after that the screen went black, the game froze and it crashed and gave me a "graphics driver malfunction" and that i should update my driver, stop overclocking it and that it was overheating.. i closed the error and quickly checked CAM to see my GPU temperature.. it was 36 degrees celcius which is well below the overheating meter

- i then opened Nvidia experience and updated my Game ready driver to the latest release 02/03/2020 (note that it was previously on a 2 month old version)

- i restarted my PC after the installation of the updated driver

- i tried opening the game again and the same thing happened in the same order mentioned above.. i did this for 2 more tries and then i gave up

i gave it about 4 5 hours and then i tried again and as i said before i had to skip the startup and go straight to my saved game and it worked. im gonna attach the logs (i dont know if its the right file as im not sure it lists the crash after the game has worked)

Please let me know if theres any additional info or file i need to send you in order to stop this crash from happening again. and thank you!

Hello, Engineer!

Thank you for your reply. It seems that it's the same problem that was reported here: https://support.keenswh.com/spaceengineers/general/topic/graphics-driver-crash-error-since-1319-update.

Please try to set grass density to 0. If this won't help you, then continue with:

  • Reinstall VC Redist 2017
  • Update graphic drivers
  • Delete SpaceEngineers.cfg file (it means your game configuration will be deleted)
  • Delete ShaderCache folder
  • Reinstall the game

Please let us know if it helped you. If the crash will persist, it's definitely the issue mentioned above. This issue is not just a problem on our side but it's related to graphic drivers. We are sorry you are experiencing this issue.

I am booted into Linux right now so I cannot upload the logs (since I play the game on my Windows installation).

My system is dual-booted, with a dedicated M.2 NVME SSD for each OS.

GPU is a GTX 1080 TI. CPU is an i7 9700k (9th gen). 32GB RAM.

Game crashes about 20 minutes in, and every time it is due to a SharpDX memory allocation issue. Supposedly my GPU is running out of RAM. According to GPU-Z, my GPU is not running out of RAM. This did start in the middle of a megabuild, but this megabuild is nowhere near the size of other builds I've done (and fewer mods being used as well).

System RAM is fine. I never run out of that, even with this game.

GPU temperature in the Summer is fairly high at 60C, but that's not hot enough to cause this kind of a failure.

@CheesyB .... Does this happen randomly or is it when you approach Terminal Blocks? I have an NVidia issue as well, but the game will only crash with the same BS cop-out error as yours when I try to interact with anything terminal block.

Check to see simply by approaching a door, passenger seat, survival kit etc. I can fly and build to my heart's content so long as I don't want the build to do anything other than be a nice collection of blocks.

i posted on a different gfx card driver crash ticket, but this is more precisely the situation...

this is happening on 2 different computers, different specs and OS, i did manage to get around this issue, logging in a second character to the server i was on, (keen uk 2) and either getting that area to wake up, or toggling the survival kits off then on allowed me to get back in on my main account... i made some cryo chambers and did not have any problems until my stuff got raided and i was back to spawning in with survival kits, and crashing again, on both computers/accounts...

Hello, Engineers!

I appreciate this thread is quite old. Is this still an issue that persists with you or has it since been resolved? If it is still happening, please could you provide an updated log? I will close this thread if it is no longer an issue for you :)

Hi Laura. I received this in my email today.... but it's not quite the same problem although maybe it is.

I have a Dell computer. Intel i9 with 64G of system ram and an nVidia 2080

I purchased this computer SPECIFICALLY to play SE on full tilt. Sadly, as soon as I approach or interact with a piece that allows it (anything other than a block type thing) it crashes the game giving me a graphic card overheated error.

So yes, this is still a problem.

PS: I was hoping that it was resolved in the last update but it wasn't. I have even purchased the latest DLC in hopes KEEN will fix this issue and I can enjoy this game once again, and possibly even put another server back up.

Hello, Rob!

Thank you for the reply and I'm sorry you're having the issue. Would it be possible to please supply a log from when the crash occurs?

You can access your log files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.

Hello, Engineer!

Because there is no new comment from you, and we are unable to reproduce the issue on our own, I will close this thread now as outdated.

If you or any other player will experience this issue again, please make a new thread and provide all needed info there.

Thank you for understanding.
