"Hotfix" induced crashes

KIRILL BLOKHNIN shared this bug 2 years ago
Won't Fix

After the last "hotfix" the amount of crashes increased to the impossible limits. The game is unplayable now. I tried everything. Disabled mods, experimental mode, checking local files, even uninstalling and installing, updating my drivers.

The crashes are severe, I have to reboot my pc after it. Despite the program being closed, it still produces some audio, and won't change the steam status, steam says it's still running

Sending the log files I could find.

Hello, KIRILL!

Sorry to hear you're experiencing this issue. You mention the hotfix, was this crashing for you previously? Just looking through your logs are you getting an actual crash or is it no closing for you? I was a little confused because you've mentioned crashes but you're getting audio so may not be crashing fully? Is this happening in the same place every time or are you doing the same thing each time to cause this? We would suggest starting with the following in this list but I appreciate you have done some of these. Please let me know how you get on once you have made sure all of these steps have been taken.

  • Verify your game files in Steam

  • Right click on Space Engineers in Steam Library → Properties → Local Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files

  • Delete SpaceEngineers.cfg file

  • It means your game configuration will be deleted
  • You can access your SpaceEngineers.cfg by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.

  • Delete ShaderCache folder

  • Back up your whole Space Engineers Roaming folder and delete it
  • Restart Steam
  • Reinstall VC Redist 2017
  • Update graphic drivers
  • Reinstall the game
  • Make sure your operating system is fully updated

Kind Regards

Hello, Laura

Let me clear up my gaming process:

1.Open the steam version of the game

2.Load/create a new world

3.Experience a crash at random moment within 5 minutes from the beginning

4.Crash is followed by a white screen

5.Close the game with a task manager

6.The game is closed, no process is shown in the task manager

7.Steam says it is still running, and yet it does not respond to closing it through the steam app, and audio glitch of game audio is looped through whole process

8. Reboot the machine to get rid of the issues

Rinse and repeat!

Nothing is diiferent if it is in experimental mode or not, mods or not, different game settings

Also tried:

  • Restart Steam
  • Update graphic drivers
  • Reinstall the game
  • Make sure your operating system is fully updated
    Not working

UPD: Just loaded the game. Now it is just false graphics card overheat crash

Graphic profile provided by NVidia is used.

SYSTEM INFO:

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650

driver version 466.27

Intel Core i5-9300HF CPU @ 2.40GHz

~16 GB RAM free

UPD2: crashes are back

Shortly after I reinstalled VC Redist 2017-2019 and deleted the .cfg file, I had around 20 minutes of crashless gameplay. But as soon I changed the settings and rolled in the NVIDIA visual profile for the game, the crashes were back in 10 or so minutes. I will try tweaking with it more later.

Hello, KIRILL!

Thank you for providing further information and logs. You mention in the last part of your comment about visual profile, is this the Geforce experience presets? Could I also ask you to clarify what settings were changed?

Hello Laura!

Yes, those were the Nvidia presets. To clarify - clearing the shader cash folder helped to avoid bugs, I had about 20 crasheless hrs, but now nothing helps at all.

Hello, KIRILL!

Thank you for clarifying. Does this still happen if you do not change the Nvidia presets? Is this happening only when these are changed?

Hello, Laura

It has no correlation with NVidia presets. It happens with them, it happens without them

Hello, KIRILL!

I appreciate this thread is quite old. Is this still an issue that persists with you? Are you able to run this without any issues on the lowest graphical setting or does this also run into issues?

Kind Regards
