Won't Fix

Hi Keen,

i got over 2K hours in SE and never had such issue, simply i just start the game after this new update, i get the normal black screen before loading the intro video, but it stuck there. and crash after few seconds. i also noticed that i could click on something (while screen is black) i found that it was the new update message that comes before the intro video.

i tried to clear appdata SE folder, verify game files in steam, updating the nvidia driver, reinstalling the game and restarting the windows.

note: i went back to 1.196 just to make sure its not my pc fault, and yes the game worked at 1.196 version

Same issue here, game just doesn't want to start...

Tried verifying game files, reinstall, clear appdata, all gfx drivers are up to date.

Here's my logs

reverting back to 1.196 makes the game start again, 1.197 worked too (but cant select it on steam), 1.197.1 just doesn't want to start

Hello, Engineers,

we´re sorry to hear you have such issues.

Please try as well following in order to fix the crashing of the game:

  • Delete SpaceEngineers.cfg file
It means your game configuration will be deleted
You can access your SpaceEngineers.cfg by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.
  • Delete ShaderCache folder
  • Back up your whole Space Engineers Roaming folder and delete it
  • Restart Steam
  • Reinstall VC Redist 2017

Let me know if any of provided solutions worked for you, please. Or if you observe any change in the game behavior (e.g. crashing on different place... ).

Hope some of the provided solutions would work for you.

Kind Regards

Ondrej, if you read, you would have known we did all the steps you asked to do, BEFORE you asked it.... Logs were also posted.... And those steps don't help at all, it's clearly an issue with the game and NOT our computer.

I too am running into this issue. I was able to introduce a change in behavior by rolling back to an older NVIDIA driver (461.40->456.71). This results in the black screen staying up, forcing me to kill Space Engineers through Task Manager, as it is unresponsive and taking ~2.4k MB of RAM.

So far, I have tried, in addition to above:

  • Disabling Steam Overlay and XBox Game Bar
  • Starting Space Engineers in Windowed mode
  • Forcing VSync on through the NVIDIA settings
  • Verifying Steam files
  • Reinstalling Space Engineers

None of these changes had any effect. Rolling back to 1.196 makes the game work again.

I have a GTX 1070. A friend with an RTX 2070 had no issues with 1.197, as well as friends with Radeon cards.

Hi Ondrej,

I ran some sort of debugger on SE to see if i can get some kind of stack trace. and i got some lines that may be helpful for the devs.

i included the log file.

regards.

I am having the exact same issue. The issue occurred after the 1.197.168 patch was applied. The Update 1.197 Wasteland update worked fine, however one is only able to revert to the major updates as in loading back to 1.196 and the game works again. I suspect if I could load back to the previous files just prior to the 1.197.168 patch the game would again be operational.

Hello, everyone,

Thank you for all your information, unfortunately we have not been able to reproduce this issue yet. Can you please write here your PC specifications and the version of your drivers?

This is perhaps one reason getting assistance gets so Frustrating. You've asked me for the spec of my system and the version of my drivers.

Obviously you failed to look at the log files I sent upon your request, because the specs are detailed in that log file. What specific Drivers are you requesting to know the version of? Vid, Printer, Mother board drivers, USB drivers? Every single driver loaded on the PC? You need to be more specific as to which "drivers" you are referring to. Keep in mind I'm also not a PC expert or a Windows certified expert so I would need some details as to where to find these "driver" versions.

Hello, everyone!

Thank you all for the information. We're sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues.

Before taking any of the steps below please make sure that your PC meets the minimum system requirements:

https://www.spaceengineersgame.com/system-requirements.html

The kernelbase.dll crash occurs in a wide range of games and apps in general. The crash isn't typically caused by Space Engineers and may be the result of a system issue. Hopefully, we can provide you with a solution to your issue quickly. However, we may not be able to address your issue until a future update or hotfix to Space Engineers.

In the meantime, please take the following steps:

  • Update Windows (The most recent update for MS Windows 10 is Microsoft Windows NT 10.0.19041.0)

  • Update your graphic drivers

  • Reinstall the Visual Studio redistributable: download the latest version from the official Microsoft website (x86: vc_redist.x86.exe OR x64: vc_redist.x64.exe)

  • Run as a different user (a corrupt windows user profile is a common source of this error)

Please follow these steps and let us know if it helped you. Thank you.
