Summary:
Space Engineers 2 hard crashes with the same GPU render failure hundreds of times. Intermittent: sometimes a few minutes, sometimes hours. Still reproduces on 2.4.0.77 after upgrading from 2.3.x.
Hardware:
- GPU: AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT
- Drivers tried: Adrenalin 26.7.1 and 26.6.1 (both still crash the same way)
- OS: Windows 11
Game:
- Versions: 2.3.0.2798 and 2.4.0.77 (both)
- Mode: Singleplayer survival (Welcome To Verdure)
- Save: Welcome To Verdure 1 -PlanetBound2
Crash signature (every time we checked logs):
- Process tag: CrashGPU
- DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED (0x887A0005)
- DRED DeviceState: Pagefault
- Dies during ScenePreparation + Render (Present / GPUProfiler readback)
- VRAM at crash typically ~13 GB used / ~14–15 GB budget
- Windows Event Viewer then shows secondary fail-fast in coreclr.dll (0xc0000602) after the GPU already died
What we tried (did not stop the page-fault crashes):
- Graphics preset Low through High / Extreme
- Raytracing Off / Low / High
- FSR on and off
- FPS cap 60
- OBS closed, overlays reduced
- Mild GPU power limit
- Different Adrenalin versions (26.7.1, 26.6.1)
Player observation (not 100% confirmed by logs):
Crashes often seem to happen when the camera swings and hydrogen thrusters enter view (bright thruster FX). Rough feel ~90% of the times I notice a pattern — may be coincidence with camera/view changes, but consistent enough to mention as a possible repro hint.

(key lines: CrashGPU, DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED, DRED2 DeviceState: Pagefault)
Note: Keen support has previously mentioned investigating AMD driver issues with SE2; this matches a stable CrashGPU page-fault pattern on RDNA4 (9070 XT).
I have the same bug
I have had game crashes and the AMD driver crash error appear also. I First encountered it after editing my second LCD text and clicking to save the text. The second and third times I literally aimed my view at an LCD with a crash a second or so after. I then turned off all my LCDS (About 6) and havent crashed that way again so far.
The next few times I have been monitoring the RAM usage in task manager. My game runs normally about 13GB RAM of my 64GB system. I found the RAM usage occasionally will slowly increase to over 16GB and then I crash about 16.8GB every time.
My system has Ryzen 7 7800X3D and Raedon RX 9070 XT with latest drivers. I dont have any videos or images sorry

Hello Engineers,
As far as I am aware, we have not pushed any specific fix for AMD Driver crash with the latest VS 2.4 as we are still in process of investigating the source of these crashes.
Interestingly, we can run the Game with no crashes at 60FPS on High Graphical Settings with similar setups and even when more than 20GB of RAM are being used.
Can you please check the performance monitor in the AMD Adrenaline app while playing, if anything is out of ordinary with the GPU or CPU?
Have you tried deleting these two folders:
From the following path:
Afterwards, please try verifying the Game files through Steam.
Let me know if this helps.
Kind Regards,
Bartosz

I got the game to crash again while I had the AMD Adrenalin monitor going. I have supplied the logs I recorded, but nothing looked abnormal, no spikes in any data, GPU or CPU. I didnt get to see the RAM usage as the adrenaline app covered it up, but it was about 15GB a few moments before, so doubtful the RAM usage caused this one. If I can find where AMD keeps their crash logs I can supply that as It may show the exact file that failed.
I'm also running on High settings but with ray tracing set to medium and Decals to highest. My frame rates are between 85 and 130. At the time of crash I was just slowly jetpacking into my main ship through a door after parking up another smaller ship to a connector, Nothing graphically demanding. I will try the shader cache delete and game file verifying and reply with any further info

I am also having this issue, although it was fine about 6 hours ago. I close SE2 to have some lunch and when I came back to play again any world I try to load I get an immediate crash to desktop and the logs seem to say that my GPU is no longer recognised.
026-08-25 17:53:25.527 - Render thread -> Exception occurred: SharpGen.Runtime.SharpGenException: HRESULT: [0x887A0005], Module: [Vortice.DXGI], ApiCode: [DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED/DeviceRemoved], Message: [The GPU device instance has been suspended. Use GetDeviceRemovedReason to determine the appropriate action.
I have attached the logs for the most recent crash.

@philip and @andrew got the same issue, since yesterday. It worked before without issues and now it just wont load/create any world...

Having the same Philip. I am not able to play this game at all.
I should not have to try to dig through log data to play a game. Down voted on steam as this appears, from the forms, to be a long running issue. Kind of crappy that Keen is essentially saying if you don't buy Nvidia don't play our games.

hello everyone
i can report that after following the workaround posted on the discord server, the game finally loads saves. I ran the AMD cleanup utility in safe mode and rolled back the gpu drivers to the 26.7.1 version. Now the game runs. Will let you know if i experience crashes after playing.

Fixed a crash on AMD Radeon RX 9000 series cards with driver 26.8.1
Looks like they pushed a hotfix for this issue!
I’m going to play and see if this resolved our crashing issues.

I just tried to play with driver 26.8.1 and latest SE2 hotfix and unfortunately it doesn't work for me.

I have had another crash, the first since the update, but lasted a lot longer until the crash. Once loaded back in after a game restart, I noticed that all my LCDs in the ship I was in (Not my others) were displaying a pink screen instead of black (No test setup yet), They went back to normal only after I went to change the LCD from None to Text display. So the crash is either the GPU driver issue or the game rendering LCDs maybe. And honestly I never had any crashes until I put LCDs in my ship, about 180 hours of crash free playing.

Hello Engineers,
We are investigating the crashes on AMD GPUs however, we don't have any ETA at the moment.
We are working with AMD to find a solution for "Device removed" crashes. We are recommending to roll back to previous AMD Drivers until this issue is resolved if you are using the latest drivers:
Thank you for your patience.
Kind Regards,
Bartosz
