Unable To Grind/Weld Certain Blocks In Survival

Some blocks (Detailing and conveyor so far) are unable to be welded or ground down unless looking at a specific side of the block. They can weld to stage 1 then I have to look at a specific side to continue welding. If I can't do this then I have to grind down numerous other blocks just to finish welding 1 block. It seems that some blocks have only one interactable side on occasion. I hope this makes sense.
