[IDEA] Power & Data Network

I’d love to see a more structured and realistic power and data network system in Space Engineers 2 , where control and connectivity are handled through physical wiring rather than wireless magic. By default, any block with controllable functionality (like lights, thrusters, doors, etc.) should require power cables for electricity and data cables for terminal access and logic. A power switch could be used to cut off entire sub-grids from energy, while network routers would segment data networks, allowing players to isolate and diagnose sub-systems easily.

When opening a terminal, players should only see and control blocks connected via data cables (if powered). For example, a cockpit controlling thrusters would require both power and a data link. Cables could be 0.25m blocks that snap onto surfaces, while some blocks (like conveyors or advanced armor) might have built-in wiring. Routers (also 0.25m) could split or isolate networks—some with built-in terminals, others purely for routing. This could introduce network security mechanics, where unauthorized players (or hackers) can only access blocks within their immediate network segment. To infiltrate deeper systems, they’d need to bypass router firewalls, either through hacking tools or physical tampering.

This system would make ship and base design more immersive, requiring proper wiring management, network security, and even emergency cutoffs for power and control. It would also add depth to multiplayer sabotage, where intruders must navigate and compromise networks rather than instantly accessing everything.
