Just to add to this: I would like to be able to map different axis to different things. I have two sticks and a throttle. I'd like to be able to map my throttle to some big engines at the rear, and use my left stick for fine manoeuvring.

was against the methods of KrazyIvan on steam. But the game for sure needs this it feels wrong without it.

Given how a good portion of space flight games nickel and dime to do something as simple as color your ship, I 100% want this for SE2

Agree to that. Being able to flight your ship with a HOTAS adds so much fun to the whole thing, if you never used a HOTAS / Joystick before you will not understand it.
I bought my HOTAS for Elite Dangerous over 10 years ago (and for Star Citizen in mind), a "simple" X52 Pro, which I still like a lot and yeah, it still works after all this years. So, I got it, connected it to Elite Dangerous and... I was horrible in controlling my ship at first, but even in that bad state of flying there was a other feeling: it felt simply right. Like using a wheel for racing games (which I also had before I lost interest for racing games completely). It contributes to the immersion of the gameplay itself.
And that's why I always wanted HOTAS support for Space Engineers, to rise the fun to fly your own build ship even more, no mouse control and no gamepad/controller can do that. A HOTAS give you the feeling you really control your ship like a wheel does it on racing games.
So this is definitely more as a "nice to have" feature. You also don't want a racing game without wheel support.

HOTAS Support would really elevate the SE2 experience, after modding SE1 to have HOTAS support, which while good was unfortunately limited, showed that the physics in SE1 already made for a great flight sim. PvP with HOTAS fighters would be amazing, thats not even with things such as custom binds and gyro dampening toggles. Keen I believe this could be a HUGE Selling point for SE2, esp. with custom binds, gimbal turrets controlled by joystick, Proper ship racing with precision movements and tight spaces! Bring my pod racer dreams to life!

Hey! Just wanted to come here and say that I made a post asking for the same thing and more. In addition to having flight stick support (what I called it because I'm ignorant as to what it's actually called, until now) I asked for the controls to be completely overhauled and EVERY control to be added to the controls screen. This gives better accessibility for everyone, but especially those gamers who might need to change their controls for any reason. It also eliminates "hidden controls" that are only learned from forums or wikis.
I'm going to leave a link to this post on my post to hopefully redirect people and make this even more popular of a suggestion. I would appreciate it if you put a link to my post or even copy my post and put it in yours! I don't need my post to be popular, I just want the game to have some great changes!

I wonder why this isn't under consideration when others with less votes are. I feel like if you make this once well you have system to setup any keybinds and or any axis or almost any input whatsoever. I was very surprised when i played SE1 which is sort of an sim and i couldn't play it with any of my peripherals. (heavy eq panel, dual Th 16000 with throttle, G29)

... not to mention YouTubers using it would make se2 look better, sorta does for elite dangerous, wish se1 would have it still.

I am in full support of full HOTAS support for both SE1 and SE2 and have voted on every post in support of that.
I just wanted to throw the option out there for anyone who wants an option in the meantime. I have been using JoyToKey (link below) to fly with my joystick on SE1 for a long time now. The program converts inputs from a joystick or controller into key and mouse inputs. It's by no means perfect but I found it to be a good option. I have not tested in SE2

Considering you could already get it working by modifying just the control mappings in SE1, i think it needs to be properly implemented with a configuration in the UI for SE2.

HOTAS/HOSAS analog support is very much needed. Crazy to create a flying game in 2025 without it. This would give the game so much more depth and flying (and even driving) would be incredible. Would definitely step the game up a notch. Also, how is 119 votes "not enough" ?

one thing I would like to point out is that with the speed increase, fully configurable HOTAS and controller support is very much needed. At high velocity, klunky keyboard or the lame default controller support of se1 simply will not cut it.

Yes This game absolutely needs HOTAS support so we can add Flight Sticks and Throttles

At least if we can't HOTAS/HOSAS support, can Keen at least consider separating FPS mouse inversion and ship fly mouse inversion? We did not had this in SE1 so we need it in SE2 please.
Right now it's global inversion. I'd really love HOTAS / sticks support too, that would be marvelous.
