When jumping on a moving grid, character flies back

Solved

Whenever I jump or fall off a ledge on a moving grid, my character flies back at the speed the ship is moving at - it essentially immediately loses all inertia. My best guess is that the game doesn't account for the speed of the moving grid when calculating the speed the player should be moving at after jumping. Interestingly, this issue doesn't seem to happen when using the jetpack, as the speed is accounted for there.

I doubt the game acting like this is intended, though I don't know if the same happens in Space Engineers 1. Either way, this is both rather unrealistic and can pose quite a large problem, especially when the player is exiting a control seat.

Thanks in advance.

Did another test. If you are in the R-01 ship at full speed, walking around with the grav boots, and you jump -- you will be thrown like you have no inertia to match the ship.

Its like there are is no inertia involved with gravitational fields.

or the inertial reference is set to 0 Bumping for more votes this defies basic energy conservation, like E=MC2.

Agreed, I doubt this is intended and hope they focus on improving their physics in their engine like they promised in the trailer.

I did some testing, and what's happening is that each time you jump, the jetpack and dampeners activate immediately. I was on a ship moving at 300 m/s without gravity generators enabled, standing on foot with dampeners disabled. When I jumped, the first thing I noticed was that the dampeners and jetpack activated instantly. The main issue is that since the jetpack has a speed limit of 20 m/s, activating it at any higher velocity makes it look like you're suddenly stopping

I hope they fix this, it's been very bothersome

Hello NeatNaut,

Character now correctly retains the speed of a moving grid while jumping on it. Could you please confirm that this issue is no longer occurring for you?

I’m currently unable to test it, but unless someone else does, I’ll test it as soon as I get home. Thanks for looking at the issue!

Can confirm momentum is being conserved properly now thank you Keen

after testing myself i think i see whats happening

test conditions: moving ship (no dampener) with no gravity generator

jumping while character dampeners are on lets the character follow the ship normally

jumping while dampeners are off automatically turns the jet-pack dampeners on but does not dampen relative to the ship, stopping the player while the ship continues

dang, your fast on the fixes!

Hello Engineers,

Thank you all for confirmation :) I am closing the thread.

Happy Engineering!

I don't have access to my computer at the moment, but I will try to confirm soon
