GPS Markers obstruct view.

So, I'm trying to do the very first bounty mission, and I can't even do that properly because every time I try to approach the ship, the GPS marker completely covers it up during the approach. I have no chance to see the ship and where the turrets are to disable them, before whatever ship I'm flying gets absolutely shredded by incoming fire. I realize this game's an alpha, but there ought to be a way to "hide" the markers, or turn them into low visibility brackets so you can deal with these kinds of quests.

I totally agree, the old GPS makers in SE1 would clutter up your screen, but these new giant ass markers are a pain in the ass at the moment. I hope they will add a hide/show GPS marker shortcut in the near future.

Totally agree!

That's why the only mod i have is "transparent GPS marker"...

Yes I have found this too, approaching a ship only to be shot by its turrets and unable to see to shoot back.

My suggestion is like in SE1 where they added an offset info to the side of the object and had a line going to the object

Pressing U twice completely removes the HUD, including all markers.

Yeah we know, but hurling towards a target you want to keep the rest of the HUD because you want to see how fast you are going or what your bank angle and altitude is. It would be great just to hide the GPS with a single key and not the whole HUD. Al

What resolution are you running for the markers to be obstructive? At 4K they don’t seem to be.

Even then take a cue from games from the 90’s and draw a box around the POI and put the targeted object name above/below the box until the box is larger than the view and let the player subtarget things like connectors, engines, weapons or even exposed hydrogen tanks.

Im playing in 2k, whole ship is covered till about 500m. The just need to add the hide feature on the 3rd or fourth H press like in SE1. Also they need a UI scale feature also

I see multiple reports of this and they keep getting archived, clearly this is an issue that needs to be solved...

You can't complete combat missions accurately (and by accurate, I mean disable weapons with manual fire gatlings etc instead of letting turrets wreak havoc and destroying blocks that don't need to be destroyed....)

I also just think the idea is fine... but the icons used are simply too large, once you get within 1-2km the icons should be basically be only an outline in a similar color, so you can see the general area of the point, but not obscure the view...

There will probably be a mod before long if it isn't changed in the next update... I can't imagine replacing the texture would be difficult.

Or just add a button where we can hide just the markers.

Better yet, turn them on and off with a hotbar action.

This will be possible once we have GPS markers stored and displayed using actual blocks rather than saved and managed inside the "player's transcendent soul" :). It makes no sense to fly around creating GPS markers, then die and respawn, but the markers are still with you. Where are they saved? In your soul? :)

This is a game about blocks and building with them. You need to have a Map Block in order to display your GPS points or use an LCD showing you direction/distance to a selected marker. In other words, you will need to actually build things helping you to see and navigate towards GPS markers. You don't need 100s of UI shortcuts to solve problems that don't even need to be in the game in the first place. What we really need is true engineering that fulfils real necessity. Want to see a GPS point – build a block, set things up. This base logic has to apply to many aspects of the game btw.

Adding and displaying GPS points should be a capability of your grid, not a virtual game UI feature.

The only exception to this might be tutorials for the new players where you can have mission objective markers on your HUD. Having 1 single marker is not a big deal and it is temporary.
