RTX-5090 graphics issues

ILoveSpaceEngineers shared this bug 20 days ago
Need More Information

Hi, I have a 5090, and when I play SE2...

The textures often fail to resolve properly... they sparkle or twinkle. The surface looks like it is constantly moving... at the paint level.

Also, the game regularly has these very small "hiccups" very noticeable when flying a ship over a planet, or near asteroids. The game appears to repetitively "lurch" forwards.

There are times when distance to a texture determines whether it reflects light or not, and that looks very bad when it happens.

I can make a video of this if required.

I'd rather not, as it feels like you guys just need to run the game on a 5090, and experience it for yourself. You can't fix something you can't reproduce. I'm just assuming you guys haven't tested with a 5090, because... like who buys that to play SE? One guy anyways.

Let me know if a video on my part is required, or if you already know about these issues and are working on it.

Hello ILoveSpaceEngineers,

Could you please provide a video recording of your issue and a screenshot of your Graphical settings? Are you using up-to-date NVidia drivers?

Kind Regards,

Hello Bartoz,

I have uploaded a video to my YT channel: https://youtu.be/sU6SxfSLSfA

You must watch it in 4k to see the issues. They may only appear in 4k. IDK. I didn't try lower settings.

I am using the latest NVIDIA drivers, I use the Studio drivers, because I do SE recordings for YT.

At the beginning of the video, I show my graphics settings. I am playing the game in 4k.

I used the built in NVIDIA encoder to record this. I did not use another piece of software like OBS.

If you need more assistance or more information, please let me know.

Thank you

Hello ILoveSpaceEngineers,

Thank you for providing a video of the issue. I see that you are using the Performance setting, please change this setting to Quality and let me know if the issue will still persist afterwards.

Kind Regards,

Hello Bartoz,

I have made the requested changes to the graphics setting and tried again. Issue persists. It's mildly different, but still present. I show my graphics settings, and demonstrate the issues a second time in this video here: https://youtu.be/s04sWjX6PII

If you need more information, please let me know.

Hello ILoveSpaceEngineers,

I see, this seems to be caused by Scaling Mode being set to Balanced. Setting it to either Quality or NativeAA should fix your problems.

Please note that this is not an issue per se but rather the way scaling functions to provide better performance for the cost of visuals quality.

I also use a 5090 and found some similar issues. What most affected me was a grainy look when light hit metal surfaces at an angle and on the ring of planets. There is also a ghost streak of objects such as asteroids when moving the camera while in space.

Changing to NativeAA improves it significantly but does not remove it completely.

I recorded evidence and uploaded it here: https://youtu.be/haetuKSr4Mk

Hello Bartoz,

I gave the suggested settings change a try, and it did affect how the game looks. Some issues are better some are not, and some are worse.

The jerkyness of the view port when moving is still present.

The moving surfaces are still present.

The improperly rendered reflections.

Do you guys have a 5090 to test with?

I made another recording of the issues with the current settings:

I'm having similar issues on a 3070ti, as well as a few other possibly related problems that I made a separate report on. I typically use lower graphics settings and native AA. It's as if the lighting has built-in static or jitter, and it's mildly headache inducing for me.

I'll cross-reference my issue here just in case. https://support.keenswh.com/spaceengineers2/pc/topic/53046-visual-static-on-planetary-rings-giving-a-lot-of-eyestrain

Thanks man! Much appreciated.

I hope they can figure it out!

I hope so too, but not holding my breath. I tried to play SE1 and it has had a crashing, not just bad graphics, but game breaking bug on 5090 that has been reported for 10 months without any fixes. So right now I can't play SE1 due to continuous crashes and SE2 due to the projection bug :(.

@miguel I wonder if you need to revalidate your SE1 files? I play SE1 with a 5090 several times a week. Had it loaded up this morning.
