Flying far can be boring. Add minigames to make it fun!

  • Turbulence from the occasional weather that slightly throws your aim off, so you have to compensate (needs testing to make sure is not annoying)
  • Heavy lightning storms you might want to circle around instead of just flying A to B
  • Flocks of birds you can aim for to get a nice red mist. Or fly around like a normal person.
  • Vent heat at regular intervals to ensure optimal operation of ship (add manual heat vent block - late game add automated heat vent)
  • Some kind of quick time events to get a temporary speed boost from your engines.
  • Rare solar storms that shut down your ship and you need to complete simple minigame to restart the systems. Not on planets.
  • Rare space debris / micrometeoroids - activate weapons, enable shields, or turn your ships hardest face toward them
  • Complete simple challenges (think lockpicking in space), to get random rewards. Youd pick up these challenges randomly while flying ("Encrypted signal detected, plz solve"?).
  • Collect precious space gas by flying through small space clouds along your route (a little deviation here and there). Add gas collector block to do it.
  • Explore asteroids along your route for rewards by simply flying close enough. Maybe need to use a scanner block to do it.
  • Random AI enemies to either shoot at or run away from. Nothing too harmful.
  • Randomly generated meteor strikes on planets, with resources worth deviating from plan for.

Each thing alone needs to be rare to not be annoying. But if there are enough different ones, together they will provide enough entertainment for the longest journeys through space/air.

  • Trade opportunities - have NPC ships intersect your route randomly so you can both stop and trade!
  • Distress signals, random missions to deviate from your route to save a ship out of fuel for example
  • Abandoned stations and bases, for you to loot along your route

Also a note about jump drives - it would be more fun if jumps happened in multiple steps, not just a single jump from A to B. This allows you to face all kinds of fun situations along the way as you wait for your jump drive to charge!

Completely. Especially for coop playthroughs would be nice if those actions could be spread across multiple functionalities so not only the pilot gets to do something.

Flying far is boring, yes -- until you run into an asteroid. Then its a game changer.

Keep a lookout for 'unknown signal' those are a way to breakup the tedium.

if / when they bring jumpdrives to SE2, then it will be a little easier.

  • Maybe a Radio Block that enables random Mini Quests while you fly? If you have one, you can set the options in the block properties of what "Communication Channels" you are Tuned into, turning on only the mini games you want.
  • Maybe call them Radio Communique instead of mini-games?
  • For Stations with Radio Blocks, you could have certain local spawns / NPCs that would appear between 3 and 10 KM

Why would anyone want to Fly like a Normal Person!!!, Also, how cool of a mist are we talking about? would it damage the ship? Do we get an achievement for doing it enough? Could there be rare bigger birds with a bigger and cooler mist? WE NEED ANSWERS!!

For me it would make me want to play less. Easy fix for KEEN would be to just put a slider in the game options. Or a Low, Medium, High, and Masochistic option.

  • Explore asteroids along your route for rewards by simply flying close enough. Maybe need to use a scanner block to do it.: Could tie into extending the range of your Ore Detector?
  • Random AI enemies to either shoot at or run away from. Nothing too harmful. : Will probably be in the game eventually.

This allows you to face all kinds of fun situations along the way as you wait for your jump drive to charge!: Would prefer a-b in one go, but maybe a rare event where when you use the jump drive, you can be randomly pulled out of it for an event. Maybe a 2% chance or somthing?

So this kinda turned into a thing with me. Waterlimon, You gave me a great idea that all started with this thread and my mind's response to it. I would love your input on this thread.

I agree with you in that there should not be a Necessary QTE. That would make the game very stressful.

It should be small bonuses, like the speed boost for those people who dont want to AFK while the ship flies. Optional.


(and of course, more advanced gameplay than QTE is preferable, it just takes more dev resources)
