Radio Block Idea. New Type of mobile Contract block.

I would like to request something like a Mobile Contract Block called the "Radio Block"

The Radio Block would enable random Communique (like Contracts) while you fly.

If you have one, you can set the options in the block properties of what "Communication Channels" you are tuned into, turning on only the channels you want.

Completion could be linked to Factions progress as well.

Possible Frequencies

QQQ.Q, Engineer Channel: Lore based Channel used specifically by Keen to further the in game Story.

MMM.M, News Channel: Primarily used, and enabled by, modders for Mod specific Story Telling.

121.5, Civilian Air Distress: Could randomly spawn Wrecked ships like some of the unknown signals. Could be a small Repair Job, or a Salvage Job.

243.0, Military Air Distress: Same as above, but with a possibility of possible weapons fire.

NNN.N, Mining Channel: Could give a GPS of a nearby Asteroid with a listing of the ORE on it.

NNN.N, Exploration Channel: Encrypted Messages with a puzzle that if solved would give you a location of a stash, hideout, or Pirate Base.

NNN.N, Trade Channel: Location of a nearby Trade Outpost.

NNN.N, Enemy Channel: Spawn enemy Faction NPC's to Dog Fight. (Destruction Communique)

List the events as Radio Communique. If you accept the Communique, a GPS, Linked to the Communique, would appear like a normal mission/contract.

Could replace most Unknown Signals.

Have 4 Tiers of Radios.

A small 1Tx2Wx3D. 2 Channel Radio that gives simple, limited, early game Communique. Comes with the First Ship or obtained fairly Quickly. Some Channels Locked.

A medium 4Tx2Wx3D. 4 Channel Radio that gives more exploration type Communique. Less Channels Locked

A large 8Tx4Wx6D 10 Channel Radio for late game that enables Harder, More complex Communique. Most Channels Unlocked.

An Extended 10Tx8Wx10D Quality Control Maintenance System (QCMS) that give Special, Late Game Communique that could be tied to in game lore or specific Factions that aren't available on other Radios.

Possible issues.

To keep from having to be forced into a selection screen while flying, have a sound alert and visual cue that you have received a message.

The text would appear in a popup on the side of the UI, and you either have to go to the control panel to accept the mission, or use a Ship Specific Toolbar Hotkey.

People will want to put them on Stations. For Stations with Radio Blocks, you could have Station Specific Communique.

I would Love other players feedback on Possible Channels, game mechanics, uses, and possibilities.

I got this Block Idea while reading another feedback.

Flying far can be boring. Add minigames to make it fun!

Modified Possible Frequencies with more details

QQQ.Q, Engineer Channel: Lore based Channel used specifically by Keen to further the in game Story.

Communique is received by text and voice acting, making you feel like you are not alone.

Voice actors from your original ship.

Voice actors from specific stations (Eventual NPC's)

Voice actors from Specific lore relevant unknown signals/events. (Possibly Streamer Cameos)

CCC.C, Contract Channel: Used to give further directions for each communique.

Possibly a free channel as well.

MMM.M, News Channel: Primarily used, and enabled by, modders for Mod specific Story Telling.

Modder's choose the voice acting. Could be a way to give modders an easy way to use voice acting for Story specific Mods and scenarios.

121.5, Civilian Air Distress: Could randomly spawn Wrecked ships like some of the unknown signals. Could be a small Repair Job, or a Salvage Job.

Different factions could have different AI voices that would be used when receiving a communiques from that faction.

243.0, Military Air Distress: Same as above, but with a possibility of possible weapons fire.

Different factions could have different AI voices that would be used when receiving a communiques from that faction. Specific voices could be used by veteran players to help identify friendly and enemy events. (Would give voice actors a chance to practice their "under duress" voices)

NNN.N, Mining Channel: Could give a GPS of a nearby Asteroid with a listing of the ORE on it.

Player AI voice specific to you. Possibly something that could be set in the world menu, or on the block itself.

NNN.N, Exploration Channel: Dev specific Channel to showcase cool Caves or world generation features.

Voice actor is the Developer that suggested the location.

Could be used to enhance lore as well with small memorials. Visiting a set number of memorials could give you an achievement.

NNN.N Puzzle Channel: Encrypted Messages with a puzzle that if solved would give you a location of a stash, hideout, or Pirate Base.

Player AI voice.

NNN.N, Trade Channel: Location of a nearby Trade Outpost.

Faction specific AI Voices

NNN.N, Enemy Channel: Spawn enemy Faction NPC's to Dog Fight. (Destruction Communique)

Player AI Voice.

XXX.X: In System Channel: Area Specific Communique (electricbot)

Voice actors from that system's station.

XXX.X: Local Music: Receive Music from in Range Broadcast Controllers. (Idea based on a message reply from electricbot)

Just music. Text will show what song you are receiving.

XXX.X Beacon: Used for search Communique. Beeps faster the closer you are to the ship/station.

Beep..............................Beep.........................Beep...................BEep............BEep.......BEEp....BEEp..BEEP..BEEP.BEEPBEEPBEEPBEEP!!

That was my idea <3

Antenna/radio upgrades to get richer and farther contracts/signals

Incentive to get satellites in orbit for 24/7 radio coverage

Radio channels from ancient earth with timey-wimey coypright free music - sang by Xocliw?

Lore and in-system channels/news and contacts with 2-way radios

Definately sure it was thought about before, but I didn't see it when looking through the topics, so thought I would add it. Was trying to shy away from music, but it would make sense it could act as a jukebox.

Like adding a channel to play the in game music. That way if you don't have one of the options selected, you can just have it play the sountrack?

In Sytem channels is a great Idea, You could also have it set to specific channels to receive nearby radio stations, such as a base broadcasting a specific sound file/song that you would recieve once in range.

For the "Incentive to get satellites in orbit for 24/7 radio coverage" I wouldn't like the idea to have it ranged like that. I would like it tied to the player specifically like unknown signals... sort of. Though the Station sound could play directions for incoming aircraft that could lead them to your base. Would be a reason to build satellites. (And TRAPS!)

It's quite similar to my "Long range scanning " thread. I'm posting a link because I put concept art in it and the threads are very similar but I like the idea of a radio better, it solves the problem of orientating the scanner towards a GPS location.

I checked it out and left a comment too :) , Long Range scanners have been a request for a long time.

I really like the idea of having a dedicated channel for distress/unknown signals. If you press a button to accept it, ONLY then a GPS marker will appear for you. And if you disable that channel, those types of signal will never be generated for you (there better to be a global channel filter for this and for all channels as you don't want to mess with those filters on each ship individually). Like I really want some time to be able to disable those unknown signals when I don't want them to constantly appear and clutter the UI with its GPS marker.

"ONLY then a GPS marker will appear for you."

That is part of what this block would help improve. Less GPS Clutter unless you actually want it.

"global channel filter"

I feel people tend to make ships for specific purposes and think global setting should only be changed in the game settings. I would prefer having to install the radio and then be able to select options on the radio for the ship's purpose. A miner could have the mining channel turned on, whereas a fighter wouldn't really need that, but would have the Enemy Channel on. There could be a way however for you to use the Radio Block on a station, and as long as the antennas reach, they could broadcast local "World options" to your smaller ships without needing a specific radio block on that ship.

It would be up to the engineer to set event controllers to turn the radios off when connected to a base or larger ship.

I like the idea of tuning into different radio frequencies, resulting in different encounters and signals. One for music, distress, local military, local trade, pirates, etc.

As for the specific frequencies listed here, I wouldn't mind them, but I would prefer to leave the meat of the system to Keen.

I love the concept however!

I agree that Keen would have to figure a bit of the lore side out, but Frequencies like 121.5 MHz (Civilian Air Distress), 243.0 MHz (Military Air Distress), and 406.0 MHz (Cospas-Sarsat satellites), are standard distress frequencies that i think would fit right into SE and SE2. They could even add 2182 kHz (MF) for the water planet as it is a maritime distress frequency. There are a lot of Global Standard Channels that would be easy for them to research and put in the game.

As for the Names, just throwing a placeholder in there to give examples.

If you have some good names for the channels, I would love to hear them.
