Scripts on Xbox?

Mark Ellison shared this feedback 4 years ago
Completed

First off love the game remember playing it on my pos pc that would just constantly choke on it but still loved it. Anyways, I don't know if there is a way to find them or if I am missing them or something but I was wondering if you guys have any plans to add Scripts to the Workshop for Xbox. Obviously, your still in Beta so I could be asking about something that will be readily available in the final version. However, I am curious.

Any LCD has "scripts" option, where you can choose the specific script. There is no option to display what it in the cargo though.

What do you mean by scripts are not working?

Thank you for your feedback!

I see the scripts made like show time, power etc but what about the custum data you can add is that not available at the momemt? Il put link in here as to what i mean as i wanted to do custom coding

Unfortunatelly, those are not available atm on Xbox.

We will see the demand and what scripts will players demand, and we may add them later.

I would like to see scripts for LCDs showing piston/rotor current position. Also cargo inventory would be great. I would also like a function for the console block to show a blueprint of the ship it is on, and to highlight damaged sections in orange/yellow, and blocks that have been destroyed in red.

photo
1

is there anyway you can make the PCU limit bigger on space engineers Xbox because I was trying to make a big ship a half way through it said PCU limit reached

photo

sorry this is of topic

Hi Mark,

Are there any specific scripts you would like to see in the game?

As it is forbidden to have a scripting support on the Xbox console by Microsoft. The only option is to bundle some of the scripts directly into the game.

Thank you for your feedback!

photo
2

I don’t remember the script name, but I’m pretty sure there are some cool ones on pc that will spawn ships to fly over planets. Spawn convoys to drive on planets, or random hostile encounters. Basically it will spawn different things and automatically clean up when they get far away.

photo
3

There is an automatic airlock door script that would be useful as my buddy keeps making me lose all my oxygen by leaving my doors all open🤦‍♂

photo
1

You should use sensors.

photo
1

Would love to see you bundle the scripts that unlock the content in the scenarios. As I understand it, scenarios like the new Frostbite are not available on XBox...

photo
1

Well there are a few but like Rdav's Guided Missile Script is one I'd like to see or another script in the workshop similar to it.

photo
4

This is a great option to overcome Microsoft's breech of security. I would like to see many useful scripts added over time, also thank you for putting extra effort into this feature for console user's.

* Scripts I'd Like to See *

• Automatic Solar Allignment

• Inventory management

• Build & Repair Auto Queuing

• Guided Warhead Missiles

Look forward to seeing what the team bring in the future.

>As it is forbidden to have a scripting support on the Xbox console by Microsoft. The only option is to bundle some of the scripts directly into the game.

Does that apply even to game on dedicated server if said server runs not on xbox?

photo
3

I would love to see more useful in game scripts for LCD,

for me I would like

- Inventory information (what is in the cargo hold and how much space left, etc)

- Battery Information (Charge left, power usage, etc)

- Away to break a line of text when writing message or to do lists on a LCD, currently it goes off the screen and gets cut were the screen ends. Making bigger LCD somewhat useless.

photo
1

I would like to see like izzys invitory manager to were it would show what u have and how much of it and power stats that are better then what u have like the input output ext.

photo

Being able to use drones to carry cargo from A to B or to patrol your base would be nice.

photo
2

i believe you can use remote control block for that. With that you can set up waypoints for ships to follow:)

photo
2

Bradley and Darren, like Niels said, to do that you have to use the remote control block and some timers blocks.

The scripts are for more complex systems, like a solar pannel following the sun.

photo
1

I believe this is one of the scripts that you'd really like Darren.

I've managed to get a cargo drone to go where I want it to but I haven't been able to figure out timer blocks to be able to get it to actually dock to transfer items. All it does is stop for a second and then continue on. At least that part is working.

photo
1

Use a timer block to set a “wait period” for the drone and make sure precision mode is on for easy docking. You’ll

Need to GPS the entire route, including docking. All of my drones are automated without issue thanks to timers.

photo
3

I’d like to see (at the very least) Solar Tracking and Inventory/Cargo readout for LCDs. Those two scripts are absolutely quality of life on PC and would benefit the core game on console.

photo
1

I'm with you !

photo
2

script for cargo inventory and soler tracking auto doors open and closing

photo
1

Was looking at this last night trying to figure out how i can put an LCD screen in my FOV to show how much materials i have mined so i know if my cargo hold is at capacity.

Ive built a beast of a mining rig! but its annoying having to go check each storage box to see what space is left.

photo
3

Hey Matt I’m totally onboard with what you are saying. I just wanna give you a small trick that makes it easier for you to check storage. If you are in your rig, ship station whatever, then you can hop in to a controls eat or cockpit. From there you can open inventory and press Right thumbstick to use filter. When you do that you can filter until you get the overview of either the ship, station or whatever you are connected to and scroll down and see all storage containers. Until we get that LCD script, I think this is the easiest way for now. Instead of manually having to run around and check each storage container.

photo
1

Perfect!

will give that a whirl later on today when i get online.

photo
2

I'd like to see scripts such as Solar Tracking, Drone Mining, Drone Patrol with follow functions, autonomous deep core mining, and a few others. Is there a way we can request scripts to be brought in at a later date?

photo
4

There are a few scripts I really really want but honestly there is only 2 that I feel are super important.

1.CCTV with cameras and LCDs

2.configurable automatic LCD display for cargo and ship damage

Others to be considered would be-

3 auto airlock/hanger/doors (I know you can do that with sensors it’s just not nearly as good as the script)

4 floor plan script

5.span’s AI mining drone script

6.spug’s easy automated docking

photo
1

I think a damage assessment script and a floor plan script are a must especially the floor plan one

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=716048498&searchtext=Floor+plan

photo
3

Soler tracking . Auto mining .and some LCD scripts would be awsome

photo
2

I really want a cargo management script, LCD display power/cargo/etc script, light changing script, floorplan/damage script and an elevator script. I would really love a script which controls rotors to a cosmetically spinning reactor, buuut... Not that necessary...

*removed comment, however temporarily for its own thread*

Is it possible to make block programming?

photo
3

Hi E,

It is not possible to have scripting on Xbox per se, but we can add some popular scripts to the vanilla game.

Keep voting.

Thank you for your feedback!

photo

We are investigating two possibilities of having scripts in Xbox version:

- using the dedicated servers (coming to Xbox in future months)

- incorporating popular scripts in vanilla

We will keep you posted on the progress.

photo
1

hello i am french sorry for my english so a few scripts that i would love to see in the game

SWCS | Whip's Subgrid Wheel Control Script

MART | Whip's Mouse Aimed Rotor Turret Script adapted for controlers

MArmOS (Mechanical Arm Operating System) v3.0

photo
1

Really hoping we can get some form of scripting into the game,

Plus it would cut down on PCU when trying to build things with timers.

Thanks Keen loving the game so far otherwise

photo
1

That would be super awsome loveing the game thanks for porting it to Xbox..I now this isn't the place to post this so sorry

photo
1

Cool. To be more specific, I'd like to be able to do the Lost Colony and Frostbite scenarios. I don't know what ingame scripting is needed to enable those, but I'd love to experience that content.

photo
2

i just want a shotgun

photo
1

What about adding tracks for tanks

photo
1

Hunchback orbital dropship needs scripts to drop and automatically land ODST pods, everything else works in the ship on xbox apart from the pods.

photo
1

Great game. Keep up the good work. I’d like to see drill and fill, build and repair in the game. That would be awesome.

photo
1

I only saw one post about it, but having drones follow ships would be nice.

photo
1

This script will help with some interesting creative ideas..

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1445055239

But, I also can just see this as something you can just add to the base game, as it would be nice to control wheels, thrusters, etc, on subgrid without override.

photo
1

One script I would like to see is some sort of area/space mapping. Or a radar system. Would help plan battles, coordinate attacks, and general exploration. Having it transferable to the holographic block as well would be awesome too. XD Having the Ore Detector hooked up to the radar map allowing us to see where the ore is on a 3d map thanks to the holographic table from the Decoration DLC.

A radar/area map like this one: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1939217705

photo
2

An idea for scripts and to make the Programable Block useful (other than decoration) why not have some of the more popular scripts unlocked when a Programable Block is placed down on the grid? Allowing said scripts to work on said grid rather than everywhere.

photo
3

Yes, i agree + i want scripts for my automatic solar tracking panels

photo
4

I agree, would love to see scripts in the vanilla game, that's one thing im missing from PC version and now I have a Mac I can't play it so had to go Xbox.

Scripts id love to see.

Inventory Management- Isy's Inventory Manager is a brilliant example.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1216126863

Solar Panel Sun Tracking.- Again, Isy's is probably the best.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=699142028

Also, not a script but airlock doors would really help and stop having to make a full airlock...these are the ones im talking about:

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1359954841

photo
2

There are all sorts of good scripts in the game that add so much needed quality of life functionality to the game. Advanced LCDs, Solar Tracking, Inventory Management, Airlock doors. They are all great options.

photo
1

Would love the script that lets you use VTOL style engine pods.. I have so many designs that require thrust vector outside of 90° alignments

photo
1

You mean like I did in this video here https://youtu.be/Yz8rMh40oOM

I just used timer blocks, landing feet locks and thrust override to make this work.

Just skip to around 3:45 in the video. The first part is just some interior showcase.

photo
1

No more like this

https://youtu.be/rSpKW5uP5O8

photo
1

The problem is... One script in one programmable block runs all the pods.. I have a ship right now to VTOL takes like 12 timer block sensors and crazy time to get it all exactly right... Also trying to reduce Pcu as timers and sensors start to add up fast..

photo
1

I see what you mean now.

photo
1

Hey Keen support, any kind of eta for your built in scripts for Xbox? Love the game but it’s feeling very limited for what you can build, decorate and personalize with the current block selection. How about adding power/cargo lines like they did in No mans sky?More door option/selection, more light types, and a update that adds more hot keys to the Xbox controller for complex launching

Waitin on you ;)

photo
1

As a suggestion take a look in how path of exile handle the loot filters to xbox and ps4.

It may help in how to keep accounts syncing.

photo
1

I bet the next big update is this or mods hopefully

photo
1

Nah probs Dedicated servers

photo
1

meh, it might or probably might be deticated servers but for NOW this has more votes + scripts are really wanted as it could improve the gameplay for people who want scripts, + no one actually knows whats next & it is lockdown so it could take longer than normal, but hopefully in neer week its a bih update, we'll know when its out as keen support usually. Goes live when its a new update, like this comment if your excited :)

photo
1

Lockdown hasnt affected their workflow. They work from home and found out that its still efficient

photo
1

I didn't mean it effected* it, What i meant was it MIGHT not be as fast as it usually was like, but it COULD take a BIT longer or it could be fast ,it will probably be quick but for NOW no one really knows :)

photo
1

But other than that I'm going to go, have a good year :), i wish keen and everyone the best of luck bye guys! ☺☺

photo
2

I would love to see

VTOL

Auto air locks

Solar trackers

Guided warheads

Enhanced enemies/ expanding enemy antennas

Tracks, artillery and other weapon systems

Smart inventory

An overhauled group/module selection system

And if possible a way point system for automated drone/vehicles to setup resource collection from established locations.

I know I have a long wish list but do your best guys, love your work.

photo
1

Nah people we need more weapons. With current ship weaponry it makes builds extremely limited. Add large caliber ship cannons. Lasers. Plasma batteries or something.

Scripts and mods are required. Other games on xbox have them so why not this game. Vanilla gets pretty boring pretty quick and it would be nice to mix it up a bit

photo
1

this is planned, now all we need are mods! keen i know this is hard but everyone will be happy when this is done

photo
1

A way to delete multiple save games at once!

In the load game menu, use bumper buttons like in game menu(control panel).

photo
1

I now must ask Keen Software three questions,

First: what scripts did you guys pick?

Second: or are you going to keep that a surprise?

Third: Are they going to be available in the script block?

I don't want that to be decoration. I love the idea that it's needed for more advance scripts. Like for example, having scripts like the inventory manager be unlocked after you install the script block.

photo
3

After playing around with mods and scripts on pc I found a few that I would like. Some are already mentioned. All of these are listed under Scripts on the Steam Workshop.

Isy's Inventory Manager

Isy's Solar Alignment

Build Vision

Buildinfo

Camera Panning

Sub Grid Control

In Game Time

+ Anything that adds more hostile encounters eg Rival AI, Assertive Ships/Bunkers, Corrupt, Reavers etc

KSH, question, is the limitation with scripting by MS only for direct inputbof scripts into a programming block? What i mean is, is Microsoft just simply not allowing a user from typing in a script in the programmable block? Or is it an outright ban on scripts...

What i was thinking is perhaps could we use a conduit such as Mod.io as a conduit to import read-only scripts into a Pblock?

Granted community scripters or users that want to tweak existing scripts out there would have to republish scripts on their own accounts (like if i took izzy's inventory manager script and i modified code, i would publish izzys script on my mod io with a unique name so i can find it) - then i would just basically import that script that i modified into a block, similar to blueprints and run (no recompile option)

Granted i know it will make mod.io a bit more messy but it does solve the not writing scripts through xb issue

photo
1

Hi guys,

You can test the Dedicated servers and scripts in Beta right now.

We hope you enjoy it!

photo
1

Would love to see yall add something giving us Better drones and a way to make better guided missiles and smart Rockets on xbox one that would be sssooo dope

photo
1

singel player needs storage scripts to make the game better

photo
1

Maybe they can make scripts easier and less scary than pc

photo
1

Hi guys,

Scripting support was release in the recent 197 update. Scripting is available through Dedicated Servers.

We hope you enjoy it!

photo
1

Is there a set of scripts offered or scripting like the pc version?

photo
1

Will there be scripts for the single-player aspect of the game

photo
1

No. As stated by the developers repeatedly, Microsoft does not allow running third party code within apps/games on the paltform, nor does Sony for that matter.

photo
1

This is untrue. You are able to use scripts in skyrim special edition for xbox one.

photo
1

As far as I know, and I am no devopeer nor work for XBOX, Skyrim 'scripts' are purely made by a single person and can be verified before being released to run on the system. Keen's scripts are completely editable by the player and anyone could enter them. So those scripts cannot be policed. So Keen would have to develop a newscript system that was not player editable, and then only scripts that were policed and validated ahead of time could be incorporated. I don't know what that would do to the base game or existing scripts.

photo
1

How does one access or use the scripts? Do we have to manually put it in or how??

photo
1

Presuming you are on a dedicated server, you access scripts just like you do on PC. Except here you subsribe to them via Mod.io instead of Steam. If you need more information on how to you scripts at all, I ecourage you to watch one or more of the dozens of YouTube videos on the subject.

photo
1

Kinda wish they did a bit of both. Picking the most popular scripts and loading them into the single player/small scale server Programable Block. And on dedicated servers allow full scripting fun.

photo
1

You can use scripts on the single player beta xbox which means it wont be long until its on the actual game. The problem is if the modders dont make it xbox friendly it can crash your game so they need to code it differently. Here is a link which explains it better.

https://youtu.be/Z3RfXfAT98g

photo
1

I have the Beta and have not seen where I have the option to “use scripts” like on the PC version. I see the Mods available. But nothing of the sort relating to scripts.

photo
1

I have not played the beta in a while, but you could use scripts on dedicated servers for XBOX. I am not aware of the beta allowihg scripts to be run single player.

I watched the video. Mods are coming to XBOX which is very cool. It mentions nothing about runnig scripts on single player, which would have to run on the Xbox itself. Wheras on dedicated servers, the scripts are running on the server.

photo
1

Good day,

Would you please be so kind to add Modular Encounters Spawner for Xbox in the scripting https://spaceengineers.mod.io/modular-encounters-spawner2 It would be awesome to be able to add more AI to the server to make thing more intresting
