Sensors unable to detect after changing from default settings

dammti shared this bug 3 years ago
Solved

v1.199.020 - dedicated server hosted on own device.

Goal: Setup a sensor to detect small ships.

Behavior: Adding small ships to the detection criteria doesn't work. Shutting off 'Player' detection still allows the player to be detected.

Shutting off detection of 'Owner', 'Friendly', 'Neutral', 'Enemy' and then turning any of them back on makes the sensor unable to the owner, regardless off 'Owner'/'Player' settings. Possibly true for friendlies, neutrals and enemies: untested.

Troubleshooting steps attempted: reboot server, reboot client, recreate on different grid (confirm), recreate on grid in space (confirm), recreate on grid on other planet (confirm). Cannot recreate in another server.

Mods in use: none

Expansions in use: Decorative pack, decorative pack#2, Economy Deluxe, Sparks of the Future, Frostbite, Wasteland, Heavy Industry

Scripts being run on the server: Automatic LCDs 2 by MMaster, Floorplan Script Mk1 by Alysius, Isy's Inventory Manager, Isy's Solar Alignment Script, Path Auto Miner by Keks

Also the log file is in one of the zips.

I was trying to setup a new sensor this weekend, and was having a heck of a time getting it to stop detecting me (turning green when my body was in the zone), and instead just detect small grid ships flying through it.

I thought it was a bug with BuildVision at the time, because when I went into the Control Panel directly, and toggled off/on all the settings to what I wanted them to be, it began working normally.

However since you didn't have BuildVision...... this may very well be a nasty new glitch introduced somehow with the latest update. Something to keep an eye on and figure out.

Hello, dammti!

Sorry to hear you're experiencing this issue. I have tried a number of times to load either of the worlds provided but neither are loading. Would it be possible to zip your save file again?

Kind Regards

Sorry for the confusion. It's one world across two zips due to the size restrictions. If that doesn't work for you, I can grab them again tonight.

Hello, dammti!

I see now. This loaded without issue my mistake. Would it be possible to direct me to the right area to test this? I didn't respawn at a medical room so have been hunting through the Entity list :)

Rude that it didn't give you a medical room!

I was able to reproduce with any new sensor in the world, but the spot in the video is the Martian Base.

Hello, dammti!

Thank you for this. I have been looking into this and note that you cannot reproduce this on another server. Could you please disable all scripts and try this again? It may be that one of the scripts is causing some sort of interference.

Kind Regards

Unfortunately, no dice. I disabled scripts via the dedicated server settings and for good measure, hunted down all PBs on the server and deleted them. As an added bonus, I restarted the server after all PBs were violently murdered in a fiery fury and the problem persists.

A funeral will be held tomorrow to honor their sacrifice as they died honorably for the name of science.

Been suffering from this same bug. Like Dammti I actually thought this was a result of Buildvision as well until I realized it happened in other servers too. Both on my own and my friends server we're having this exact same issue. but seem to be no closer to finding the cause.

I have tested this on a complete vanilla install, with no mods or plugins ever installed on a freshly made star system map, experimental mode not even enabled. changing sensor settings still do not sync at all.

on that note. Using a button panel to change the sensor settings seems to sync them properly so that's a workaround to at least configure your sensors for now.

I can confirm putting on a button panel:

- Turn on Small Ship

- Turn on Friendly

- Turn on Owner

Then clicking each button on the button panel, makes my "detect friendly small ship sensor" work now. Before this Heavy Industry update... setting up sensors had no problems whatsoever. What was broken in the update, makes no sense (pun intended).

Hello, Engineers!

Thank you for all the information. I have managed to successfully reproduce each issue that you found with the sensors and have reported them internally. I was able to recreate these even in a fresh server save so thank you very much! :)
