Rotated rotor explodes on attachment

Blueprint with bug attached, a silly rotor-based elevator design.
To see the bug, run the programmable block four times: "goUpOne" -> "lock" -> "goUpOne" -> "lock"
It reliably explodes on the second use of "lock", it even explodes if you try to "Attach" it manually from the control panel.
I thought this was because the rotor was at ~3.14 rads and the peg was at ~0 rads, but a test using a piston and rotor to attach -> detach -> replace peg at different orientation -> attach correctly updated the rotor's orientation.
The programmable block also has a "debug" function that shows the angles of the two arm rotors, if that helps
