No Timer block/G menu function to apply breaks to wheels.

CloudyMN1979 shared this bug 2 years ago
Won't Fix

There is functionality to *allow* breaks to be applied by wheels via cockpit, but no option to actually apply togglable breaking/parking pressure directly to wheels via the G menu, making automated trams/trains/rovers difficult to automate outside of experimental servers.

Hello, CloudyMN1979,

thanks for letting us know.

However, I must admit, that it is not clear to me when the issue is, what seems to be wrong there. Can you please be more specific? Is the issue with the timer block, or with the wheel itself?

Especially this part "...to apply togglable breaking/parking pressure directly to wheels via the G menu..." - what do you mean by that? Can you please elaborate? Any more information that you can share on this would help me; the more, the better.

Also having a video showing this issue might help. If followed by commentary what you are doing and what functionality and where exactly are you expecting, that would be the best!

Thanks in advance.

Kind Regards

Sorry, I was trying not to be verbose. I'm building a tram system for a ring station, using the spherical gravity generator. The tram travels around the circumference of the ring, with stations on the four cardinal points. (think Rendezvous with Rama). I'd like the tram to be automated. I want to use waypoints to have the remote control block apply breaking pressure for a period of time at each station, on wheels which are set with propulsion override. In the G menu, there is only an option to toggle the tickbox in the wheel's menu which allow the wheels to break. Meaning when toggled, a manned cockpit can hit the space bar to break the vehicle. The problem I have is there is no option to have the timer block actually control the breaks. Meaning I must actually be piloting this vehicle if I want it to function. What I would like is for timer blocks to have the ability to control that spacebar function of breaking the vehicle. I hope this is a little more clear.

break is not brake.

Also, the parking brake is not a function of wheels, it's a function of control stations. That's why you don't find the parking brake in the list of available commands of wheels. But that's only for the parking brake, anyway. The regular (spacebar) brake is not exposed anywhere, so you can't apply it per hotkey or timer. It's not even properly exposed for PB scripts as far as I can tell.

I'm partly wrong. Control modules like cockpits have both the Parking brake as well as the Handbrake as an option, so the handbrake can indeed be set. (Parking brake just sends the parking signal (from which you can exclude suspensions) which in turn triggers the handbrake.)

See https://support.keenswh.com/spaceengineers/pc/topic/suspensions-park-switch-also-affects-handbrake-function for the distinction.

Hello, Engineer!

It´s already quite long time from when this issue was originally posted as well as from the last comment.

Are you still experiencing it? Or was it fixed in the meantime.

Thanks in advance for confirming me current situation.
