List of blocks that do not mirror correctly

I'm aware there are duplicate posts about this issue, but I would like to make a compilation of all the blocks I know are affected by this so they may be added to the list. There's a lot of them.


Some blocks like the ion thruster don't need to mirror, however the visual model is still asymmetrical and can spoil the appearance of ships built with mirror.


Other blocks like the Store are completely ignored and don't even face the right direction when placed.

I kindly ask the developers double check if anything else was missed. This problem seems to happen in an arbitrary manner and needs to be checked thoroughly.

Possibly you should explain what exactly you expect from mirroring. Some of those blocks don't have any symmetry (the Medical Room has this L-shape with the skin UI always on the right side of the healing console), so rotating by 180° doesn't work in this case. I suppose we will not get a new, mirrored, model for those.

For all the cases, where mirroring can be achieved by rotation: You can expect better results and Keen should fix it.

Yes, I should have been a bit more clear. They are indeed impossible to mirror. However, rotating them 180 degrees on the vertical axis would let both copies share rotational symmetry instead of just facing the same direction.

I think this would be a good compromise as making mirrored models of these is indeed a waste of time and space.

My expectation would be different, more concerned about the conveyor access. But in that case I would have expected a 90° rotation.... Very difficult to implement a general algorithm what to rotate by which amount when.

If I look at your original screenshot, the contract and store block seem to have seen a 180° rotation where in that case they should have stayed the same. But if the side of interest (hard to define which one that is in general), was facing towards or away from the mirroring plane, then it should be rotated.

Overall I can clearly see that it is difficult to implement an all-fitting algorithm. But then I wonder why they implemented the mirror-feature in the first place. Maybe problematic blocks shouldn't be placed at all? (like the ATM in your screenshot?)

You've shown that the current state is a mess, and they should at least change something *upvote*

thanks for letting us know about these blocks as well!

While going through it, I found some more :)

I did update the bug that we already have in out system with this list.

Anyway, will mark this thread as duplicate (but you probably expected that, right? :) ), since we already have other threads marked as reported awaiting fix. Please see this thread from now on regarding any new info, comments or possible fix coming.

If you stumble across anything else while playing, please don´t hesitate to let us know again. Either by commenting to that one thread or opening new one with similar list.
