Join button does nothing, can't join any online game.

Felix van Geene shared this bug 3 years ago
Won't Fix

Since about 2 days ago after always being able to play online just fine (900+ hours with no problems) the game seems to have broken, every time i click the join button and nothing happens exept when its a high ping server which would only give me the latency warning. Trying to join a fiend through steam also doesn't work and favorites also don't work. offline still works

I have tried :

-Restarting game

-Waiting for half an hour to see if it eventualy does anything (Didn't do anything)

-Reinstalling

-Restarting pc

-Removing the "SpaceEngineers.cmd" file

-Emptying the shader caches

-verefying integrity of game files in steam

-Waiting a few days and trying again

Hello, Felix,

thanks for sharing your concern with us.

Did you also try to completely delete the SE folder in the roaming folder?

You can access your save files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.

You probably want to make a back-up of this folder, so you don´t lose your saves and mods that you have stored there.

After you delete the folder, please run the SE again, the folder will be created anew and you can copy-paste the saves (mods) back in.

Also... let me please ask.. are the servers that you are trying to join heavily modded? Are those custom servers from your friends? Or official servers as well?

If it´s custom heavily modded servers... yeah, we currently have some issues with those.

Please inform your admin about the workaround - they shall make a single empty mod (or you one from your list) and delete all the others. Those needs to be made as dependencies (you can make dependency on Steam Workshop), so they are no longer counted as single mods. The lower the number of mods you are using in game (on server) the better. The current hotfix/workaround is about that the dependencies itself are not taken in account as mods per se - thus you can run server with just one mod (that shall be all right) but still can use hundreds of mods there, if set as dependencies.

Hope some of this will help you.

Please let me know.

Kind Regards

I just tried completely removing the SE folder, this sadly did not do anything. I also tried removing it and then reinstalling the game, which also didn't work. I tried joining all kinds of different servers mostly the official keen vanilla servers with no mods and no servers work at all I click on the join button or double click and absolutely nothing happens

I experienced the same issue today and did the same steps as Felix to try to fix it. Posted the below in another thread:

I experienced identical problems today as shown in Qrahn's video. This thread talked a lot about mods as if they were the culprit; however, my game only had a handful of mods (that I've since removed) and is currently not modded at all. No servers even appeared to attempt to connect - Not even the vanilla Keen servers. I wasn't able to connect to ANY servers via the in-game browser or the Steam server browser at all. The Join World button didn't do ANYTHING other than graphically and audibly "click". Direct Connect just flashes the "Joining World" GUI window and then...nothing.

I even ran a network packet capture on my system while attempting to connect and never saw any indication that a connection was being attempted. The packet captures showed queries to the servers (apparently to every server that loaded into the in-game server browser) about their names, descriptions, player counts etc, but I saw no additional network traffic when clicking "Join World".

The only multiplayer connections I've been able to make were to non-dedicated worlds hosted by Steam Friends and joined directly through my Steam Friends list.

Just as additional information (which might give some insight into the issue), I have note experienced the problem described by the OP, but I *HAVE* noticed that when you click the "Join" button, it "seems" like it didn't work, and you're tempted to click it again... BUT after a few seconds the modal "Connecting to server" (or whatever it is, I don't remember) pops up...

I just thought it odd that it would be like that... Maybe something TCP/IP-ey that happens between the click and the modal opening, that in my case is taking a little longer, and maybe failing in the OPs case?

Hello, Engineers!

As this thread is rather old now, please let me know if you ar estill experiencing it in a current version of the game.

If yes, can you provide updated information about the current behavior?

Thanks.

Hello, Engineers!

Because there is no new comment from you, and we are unable to reproduce the issue on our own, I will close this thread now as outdated.

If you or any other player will experience this issue again, please make a new thread and provide all needed info there.

Thank you for understanding.

Kind Regards

I understand your need to close the thread/support ticket and move on...but ignoring the issue for 14 months isn't good Customer Service or Quality Assurance. I can't speak for others, but in my case, I simply quit playing your game because it didn't work. Please rethink your QA strategy.
