Hand drills still broken since Warfare 1 update
Solved
Ever since the Warfare 1 update, trying to drill downwards with the hand drill has been almost an impossibility on a DS.
It seems related to the 'crouch not changing angle of fire' bug, that was supposedly fixed... but apparently not fixed for hand drills at the same time.
Aiming down, AND crouching, has about a 10% chance of actually drilling the dirt at your feet.
Also, if you happen to be crouched under a block, aiming down to drill... the drill will destroy the block above (behind) you.
This has become a serious problem when trying to hand drill out areas in a base (access tunnels, detailing, maintenance areas etc). It doesn't need to "be this bad". Just fix the damned firing offsets properly and be done with it already.
Hello, Frigidman,
thanks for sharing this issue with us.
However, when tried, I did not experience this issue in so big scope you are describing it (those 10%).
From time to time it might "seems" like it´s not working correctly, I admit, but from what I saw, that was in my case because I simply stand higher with the character than I could reach with the drill. After I moved a bit so the drill tip touched the dirt/stone again, it was mining without any problem.
Definitely did not experience destruction of block(s) behind or above me when drilling downwards.
Is the behavior still the same for you? Are you using the most recent version 198.033? Can you double check, please?
Tried on both - DS as you write here and SP just to be sure.
Might be a good idea if you can make a video, so I can see what is exactly happening. Maybe... I´m doing something wrong, holding the drill in not-so-maxed position downwards, maybe using wrong map (tried on Earth and in space). From video I would really see what and how is happening and I´m sure it would help me to reproduce the issue.
Thanks in advance.
Kind Regards

It might be worth mentioning, this is all while using the Elite Drill (HandDrill3). I see that in the HandItems.sbc, that one definition has extra speed and distance modifiers, while the basic drill does not.
I will test using the lesser drills the next time I can get back into the DS, to see if theres a difference in behavior trying to drill down while crouched. And then I'll also try messing with these numbers myself to see if anything makes it better behaved or not.

I'm having the same issue as of 1.198.033.

Hello, Engineers!
Thanks for all the provided information!
Issue was successfully reproduced and there is indeed significant difference in drill start to work on version 197 vs 198. I put the issue into our internal system.

Still an issue. Still so aggravating to dig maintenance tunnels or clear spots for equipment or whatever in a mostly-underground base. Areas where a 'ship based drill' just wont fit or be feasible.
Why oh why is it so difficult to fix the aiming/hitting of the hand tools?!

Reporting back that this has NOT been fixed, at any point. Aiming down (even crouched) with drills still has random desired effect, and is still so difficult to drill downwards. The aiming/targeting, or whatever is going on with hand drills is still ... BAD.
