Graphics Driver crash

Deszeraeth Sangra shared this bug 3 years ago
Won't Fix

Under several different driver versions and clean installs using a NVidia GTX 980 TI the game will crash with a display driver error with a message generated by the game. There are no overclocks or overheats during this time and has been monitored using GPUZ and Speccy. Using benchmarks i am unable to find issues with the card itself. All RAM has been tested using memtest as well.

Other noteworthy behavior after a crash to desktop with this scenario is that the game will be unable to launch again even to the menu without the error until a PC restart, however, other applications and games seem to run normally, including those that strain the card in multiple ways such as memory limits, overall rendering, and postprocessing effects.

Hello!

I'm sorry that you are having this issue. Would it please be possible to supply a copy of the log for this issue so it can be looked at?

  • You can access your save files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Saves. There should be a folder with your SteamID and your saves.

Please zip the file and attach it here. If you are having difficulty attaching files you can optionally use Google Drive. When sharing a google drive link please make sure it is set to be downloadable by anyone with the link.

Kind regards

Hello Laura,

Many people suffer the same error including myself. First, can you reply with an ETA of when the false error message will be changed. This is a 5 minute job, and will stop your customers wasting lots of time testing their computers when they are not at fault or overheating.

You (Keen) are aware this message is false, and have never changed it. It was mentioned here by a Keen developer:

https://support.keenswh.com/spaceengineers/pc/topic/graphics-driver-crash-error-since-1319-update#comment-24917

I have also requested the moderator of the steam forums to report this to yourselves, as he says he sends a list of concerns/issues directly to Keen.

Note there are multiple open issues on this support portal on the same problem. Many without response, or marked as completed.

This is one save: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1DHHot0Wyw4watR09sm8eHrcnffK7ZGXR/view?usp=sharing

However, this bug always happens after playing for a length of time. Time is dependant on what I am doing, I am sure it's a memory problem. It happens faster if I have internet browser tabs open, and any other programs. Also world size, the bigger the world, the sooner the bug happens.

This needs sorting, but the misleading error message needs correcting NOW as it's blaming users and wasting their time. For the less computer savvy, they may waste money replacing components or having someone examine their computer.

I will be attaching the log file on next crash. It seems this only saves the logs of the last session so i can not upload old logs.

Hello Laura, on crash the log file did not seem to save to that location at least right away, but i was able to capture it from another location.

For reference i have also included an image of the error for clarity:

Hello, Deszeraeth!

I appreciate this thread is quite old. Is this still an issue that persists for you? I notice you have created more recent threads so hoping this is no longer an issue and can now be closed :)

Kind Regards

So this is now changed status to Need more information, without further response from Keen?

You have various logs sent in via the error reports, the world files from myself and others.

You have clearly done this to avoid fixing the bug and answering the question on the misleading error message.

Hello, Engineer!

Because there is no new comment from you, and we are unable to reproduce the issue on our own, I will close this thread now as outdated.

If you or any other player will experience this issue again, please make a new thread and provide all needed info there.

Thank you for understanding.

Kind Regards
