Game no longer launches
Hi,
I have played Space Engineers for many happy hours so far, but have not played in quite a while. Over the course of the last week I have been trying to play it again but every time I try to load into the game, it just goes to a black screen and then drops me out and the application closes.
I have not changed my system or added any new hardware since last I played (and had Space Engineers loaded on my hard drive the whole time) so I don't quite know what is going wrong now.
I have tried everything I can think of to fix it - I removed and re-downloaded the game several times. Please find attached the game log of the latest time I tried to open the game, and the screen grab from the Event Log error.
Please let me know if anything further and PLEASE help me get back to a game I love!
Ben
Hey BenR! I'm not a CS agent, but could you read this thread and report back if the workaround I came up with works for you. Keen closed my issue as invalid (they couldn't reproduce it..), but for me it seems that the issue you're having is the exact same. I'm still having the issue and haven't been able to play the game since February.

Hi Antti Koponen.
You absolute beauty. I was losing my mind and had tried to follow many of the same debug suggestions that you say you also tried but I am in no way technical so was really struggling.
The suggestion listed on the attached thread worked perfectly ( -skipintro launch option in combination with renaming the /steamapps/common/SpaceEngineers/Content/Videos folder ), and I can now load back into the game.
Thank you so so much for seeing my query and for taking the time to forward that solution.
Hopefully catch you out in space sometime my friend.
Kind Regards,
Ben

Hello, BenR,
awesome to hear that the workaround worked for you!
Please note that the kernelbase.dll crash occurs in a wide range of games and apps in general. The crash isn't typically caused by Space Engineers and may be the result of a system issue.
If taken steps would prove not to work in the time to come, there´s more actions you can try:
This issue is mostly resolved by adding new Windows user and install and run the game from there. Drivers and libraries would be created anew, so the dll file won´t be corrupted anymore.
Some other steps that are working for some of these actions:
Update Windows (The most recent update for MS Windows 10 is Microsoft Windows NT 10.0.19041.0)
Update your graphic drivers
Reinstall the Visual Studio redistributable: Download the latest version from the official Microsoft website (x86: vc_redist.x86.exe OR x64: vc_redist.x64.exe)
Delete this directory: \AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Promo
Hope you understand that it´s hard for us to fix it as such, as the broken behavior is outside the game and not exactly on our side. So it might take some time to introduce some proper fix. Hope the workaround are going to work for you from now on.
Kind Regards
