Game Freezes when I try to browse for scripts in a programmable block.

Solved

Just as the title says, I have the "Allow scripts" option and the "Experimental mode" activated. What could be the issue? a bug from the newest version? or is it just something I've done wrong?

The image is the last thing i see before the game freezes and "Browse scripts" was the only thing i clicked on.

Same here.

The game is not really frozen since you can still interact with the script screen (edit the source). But trying to close it or clicking any any button has no effect. Only way to exit is closing the game (Alt-F4) or dying (out of O2 or energy...)

Ran into this yesterday. Updated my Nvidia drivers and the issue went away.

I have the same issue too. If you try to spam the left and right click on the buttons, you can still use them by the way.

Having the same issue. Created new world with no mods, created a programmable block and tried to edit script and it froze.

spamming escape allows you to leave the menu, but it doesn't fix the issue if you try again...

yup, me too. as soon as i go into the "edit" menu on a programmable block I can't close it, and none of the buttons do anything.

Same thing is happening here since the latest update. Spamming escape gets me out of the menu eventually but I basically can't use scripts.

I had the same bug.

Updating the nVidia driver to the latest game ready driver fixed the issue.

It seems that there was some specification change in the process, which caused the script editor to not work properly.

Hello!

My apologies for such a late reply firstly. It appears that people have sourced the issue to be to do with Nvidia drivers. Am I ok to mark this as solved? :)

Hello, Lars!

Is this world-specific? If so, can you please attach your save? Also, a copy of your log from it happening would be a great help.

  • You can access your save files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Saves. There should be a folder with your SteamID and your saves.

Please zip the file and attach it here. If you are having difficulty attaching files you can optionally use Google Drive. When sharing a google drive link please make sure it is set to be downloadable by anyone with the link.

I can get it to work if i spam Right mouse click and Left mouse click at the same time, then i can get in to the browse script "tab", so it does not crash my game, it's just wierd.

Hello, Lars!

Thank you for posting your save file. For me, the programable block > browse is opening as intended with no freezing or hanging. A user since has mentioned holding right-click and then you are able to left-click which may be worth trying. I appreciate you have said your GPU drivers are up to date. It may also be worth trying the below steps just in case one of these is causing some sort of interference and one of the below steps clear this up for you.

  • Verify your game files in Steam

  • Right click on Space Engineers in Steam Library → Properties → Local Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files

/bfSnH0rGoN-NgctSWBJN3LfvWZvgnfye9BrPgucxV0n8TDpNc-7yZYwSifdRXyl1quu20KGUNmHzSf6VGRbhWS4a_EYn2MclxJSOz6eVarmz-fhTWVaofVOAVZN_l_leF9dgQ5GF

  • Delete SpaceEngineers.cfg file

  • It means your game configuration will be deleted
  • You can access your SpaceEngineers.cfg by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.

  • Delete ShaderCache folder

  • Back up your whole Space Engineers Roaming folder and delete it
  • Restart Steam
  • Reinstall VC Redist 2017
  • Update graphic drivers
  • Reinstall the game
  • Make sure your operating system is fully updated
