Game crashes immediately upon loading

Won't Fix

Hi,

I just updated the game through Steam. Upon launching the game, it crashes to the desktop within seconds. I can see the black screen and game cursor for a second, then it crashes to desktop. No error message or anything. Please help, I love this game.

Hello, David,

we´re sorry to hear you have such issues.

Please try as well following in order to fix the crashing of the game:

  • Verify your game files in Steam
  • Right click on Space Engineers in Steam Library → Properties → Local Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files

  • Delete SpaceEngineers.cfg file
  • It means your game configuration will be deleted
  • You can access your SpaceEngineers.cfg by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.
  • Delete ShaderCache folder
  • Back up your whole Space Engineers Roaming folder and delete it
  • Restart Steam
  • Reinstall VC Redist 2017
  • Update graphic drivers
  • Reinstall the game
  • Make sure your operating system is fully updated

Hi,

None of these fixed the game. I even deleted the game and reinstalled it. Please provide a rollback before your last update as the game functioned flawlessly before the update. Never crashed once. Please advise.

Before taking any of the steps below please make sure that your PC meets the minimum system requirements:

The kernelbase.dll crash occurs in a wide range of games and apps in general. The crash isn't typically caused by Space Engineers and may be the result of a system issue. Hopefully, we can provide you with a solution to your issue quickly. However, we may not be able to address your issue until a future update or hotfix to Space Engineers.


In the meantime, please take the following steps:


  • Update Windows (The most recent update for MS Windows 10 is Microsoft Windows NT 10.0.19041.0)

  • Update your graphic drivers

  • Reinstall the Visual Studio redistributable: download the latest version from the official Microsoft website (x86: vc_redist.x86.exe OR x64: vc_redist.x64.exe)

  • Run as a different user (a corrupt windows user profile is a common source of this error)
