Falling through blocks on ships/station

Rhys Robbo shared this bug 6 years ago
Solved

I am in a server all by myself, just standing on my ship currently registered as a station and all of a sudden when I get out of a chair on the bridge I start falling through blocks! However when I reloaded the server it seems to have fixed itself.

Please fix this issue, it can be very annoying for all players.

This issue happens to me too, but it's only after I've made significant progress on building a factory and the likes on a planet. It causes myself to fall through the planets voxels but never through ship voxels.

Happened to me on a server as well, was able to fly my mining ship/myself through anything, restart fixed the issue thankfully

Same problem here.

happens after an extended play session. I return to my asteroid base and the artificial gravity pulls me through the blocks. Reloging seems to fix it.

Same issue.

Happens after around 16h on my server, which is restarting every 24h, mostly on station grids.

Reloging doesn't fix it, restarting the server does.

There is another similar comment and it seems to be connected to a server RAM issue

Like James Patterson said, this happens on servers. We have quite a lot of problem with this "ghost issue" on Upside Down. It happens whenever RAM-usage goes above ~20 GB. Restart fixes it ofc, but we can't monitor the server 24/7 because we are humans and need sleep...

Please do vote for that, it has more votes than this one.

this has happened to me.. i disconnected my base from the 3km pole into space and that seemed to fix the issue.

My elevator pole is now its own isolated grid. Not had much problems since.

walking around in my ice moon base actually works loads better now than before the update

Also just experienced this issue on my server. Appeared to happen after I added a large extension to a grid, and only happened for that single grid. Every other grid, whether base or ship, didn't have the issue. A server restart seems to have fixed this first issue, but now there are invisible "barriers" everywhere causing extreme rubberbanding and preventing the player character from running through.

Unsure at this point whether it's tied to server memory utilisation (going to investigate this), but does seem tied to grid size.

that is a link to a screenshot of the bug. Let's keep this short we have tried

bug comes in both vanilla and modded survival and creative modes as well as in single-player and the multiplayer server where I play with my friend

I have tried both reinstalling the game and restarting it but the bug always comes the longes time that it has taken to take effect on the world/server was just few minutes after connecting there

After 12 months no fix this should be your highest priority since it makes the game literally unplayable!

Screenshot of my Moonbase. Really not that big. Same issue here.

Restarting Game helps for like 15 - 30 Minutes. It's really annoying.

Just want you to know. Please fix it :(

I state that I play in sigleplayer with mods. Specifically the mod of the nanite that of the elevators and some of the modular encounters. The premise is over. In my world even if I turn off all the mods I just start building other parts all the pieces of my station become immaterial and I (even the ships) fall and step through the blocks (I lost a ship for this). Only way to correct the problem and restart. I like the game but I'm getting tired of this problem. The bigger my base becomes, the more I have to restart the game. This is the second world where I have this problem. And at least for the moment I'm forced to quit the game and I'm sad about it.

I found a work around for this problem. Currently I'm building a big ass base in space, but I've tagged it as Ship. No problems so far and it's my biggest "base" I've ever built.

Also built a small Mining outpost on an asteroid in the same savegame, it's really small one, but there it happens again. The falling through bug. If a ship is connected to a real station, which is attached to the surface to a planet/moon/asteroid, the falling through bug will also appear at that ship.

So guys, try to build giant ass Ships and use it as station, never connect to it to any voxel, it really helped me out a lot. I can finally enjoy the game :)

Voxels are our new enemy. Lord clang got really friendly. Lord Voxel is a dickhead.

I have same issue, it is really annoying.. Sometimes i can go through things all the way, other times my chararcter is just walking in the blocks knee/waist deep... And sometimes the character just slides over blocks..

Please fix this problem.. i never tried it before economy release ? I quit playing before economy patch, and just returned 4 days ago, really horrible now compared to before.

Hello Rhys!

I appreciate this thread is rather old. There haven't been any new comments in 16 months. Is it still an issue for you? I will close this thread if it is no longer a problem :) We have had a number of updates since your post.

Hi Laura,

As far as I can tell this no longer seems to be an issue for me at least. I am yet to re-encounter this problem in more recent times. Hopefully, it is the same story for everyone else.

Thank you, Rhys
