I got that same thing, but then went to the title screen, and the continue button took me back...and then I saved, it overwrites the custom world I selected...which was star system...(I now need a new star system world...)

I just recommend not continuing that world and saving unless you want to replace that world in your files.

P.S. Do you have a Normal star system file I can have? Mine is...broken.

So are you stating that you just need to replace the star system file?

It looks like it will save the initial save upon loading but after that it gives the error in my original picture. I've also started a map with no mods, no setting changes and still does it.

If you have the same problem as me, I was able to solve it by changing my steam status to "online", but I'd like to argue that it is an incredibly ridiculous practice that you need an internet connection to save a world to your computer. I hope Keen is able to fix this or at least offer us a solution.

Hello!

Thank you for the information. I know you cannot provide me with the save. I see one user mentioned that their initial save did save, Is it possible I can please have a copy of this?

  • Saves
  • You can access your save files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Saves. There should be a folder with your SteamID and your saves.

Please zip the file and attach it here. If you are having difficulty attaching files you can optionally use Google Drive. When sharing a google drive link please make sure it is set to be downloadable by anyone with the link.

Kind regards

Same problem maybe. My log says

SaveFinished: failed to save the world at System.Environment.GetStackTrace(Exception e, Boolean needFileInfo)...

Saves throws error. I've tried to Save As and all I got was the new folder and a thumb.jpg. This happens every new start I've made since I started playing again (Nov 2020). All games been based on Star System (creative/survival, modded/unmodded, no DLC/all DLC, all custom advanced settings and allow scripting). One game though just started working after me alt-tabbing in and out, googling and pushing all the buttons, and that save never had problems there after. Another game managed to save before spawn but never after.

After many trials of finding something while writing this, with new games failing saves, restarting SE - new game - save fails. NOW, after 4th restart of SE and starting an Empty World all standard settings. it started working. All new games so far, even after restarting SE, selecting Star System and custom adv settings, saves fine. What gives? Should I be afraid of restarting my computer?

Hello Andreas!

Is it possible to have a copy of the full log? That way we can have a look through it. I would also suggest trying the below steps just in case there is anything a little odd going on that could be fixed a little easier.

  • Verify your game files in Steam

  • Right click on Space Engineers in Steam Library → Properties → Local Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files

/bfSnH0rGoN-NgctSWBJN3LfvWZvgnfye9BrPgucxV0n8TDpNc-7yZYwSifdRXyl1quu20KGUNmHzSf6VGRbhWS4a_EYn2MclxJSOz6eVarmz-fhTWVaofVOAVZN_l_leF9dgQ5GF

  • Delete SpaceEngineers.cfg file

  • It means your game configuration will be deleted
  • You can access your SpaceEngineers.cfg by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.

  • Delete ShaderCache folder

  • Back up your whole Space Engineers Roaming folder and delete it
  • Restart Steam
  • Reinstall VC Redist 2017
  • Update graphic drivers
  • Reinstall the game
  • Make sure your operating system is fully updated

Log attached

Ofc I cannot test all that because the game works now all of a sudden. Like with everything, you have a problem for some time, you ask your support class and they throw you a support boon to make everything work before your done asking. Thanks but I can't find the problem while the boon is up.

Oh well, hope the boon is permanent, I'll be back otherwise.
