Error "Steam: Error accessing service." when uploading mod

Lachlan C. shared this bug 2 years ago
Solved

I'm attempting to upload a mod to the Steam workshop but am continuously getting the error mentioned in the title when uploading with thumbnail. The thumbnail is 152kb thus it falls under the Steam thumbnail limit. Upon adding a thumbnail to the mod folder I begin to receive the error and it creates an empty workshop file.

I have tried uninstalling steam both by keeping games and without keeping games (restored a backup when it didn't work) but neither thing fixed my issue.

Related Logs:

"2022-01-24 22:13:27.083 - Thread: 1 -> Info: New workshop item with id 2730170114 created successfully.

2022-01-24 22:13:29.503 - Thread: 1 -> Info: Workshop item with id 2730170114 update finished. Result: k_EResultLimitExceeded"

I have tried many fixes I've seen around Reddit and the KSH Forums but yet nothing has worked, any help would be appreciated.

Hello, Lachlan!

Sorry to hear you're experiencing this issue.

We have had a few users with this issue and it seems to be fixed by either steps they have found work or, in some cases it has suddenly started working. In this instance, it is just the adding of the thumbnail which causes the issue? There is no issue wihout one?

I appreciate you have mentioned that you have tried some steps but as I'm not sure what they are and what you haven't tried, I'll try and provide any you have missed.

Our usual first steps are the below:

  • Verify your game files in Steam

  • Right click on Space Engineers in Steam Library → Properties → Local Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files

/bfSnH0rGoN-NgctSWBJN3LfvWZvgnfye9BrPgucxV0n8TDpNc-7yZYwSifdRXyl1quu20KGUNmHzSf6VGRbhWS4a_EYn2MclxJSOz6eVarmz-fhTWVaofVOAVZN_l_leF9dgQ5GF

  • Delete SpaceEngineers.cfg file

  • It means your game configuration will be deleted
  • You can access your SpaceEngineers.cfg by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.

  • Delete ShaderCache folder

  • Back up your whole Space Engineers Roaming folder and delete it
  • Restart Steam
  • Reinstall VC Redist 2017
  • Update graphic drivers
  • Reinstall the game
  • Make sure your operating system is fully updated

There are also some threads such as this and also this although it is blueprint related and not mod (it is still thumbnail related)

Kind Regards

Hello Laura,

The adding of the thumbnail is what causes the issue, but I have been able to upload mods before so that's a tad confusing. The issue happens on mods that I have posted to the workshop previously if I modify or change the thumbnail in any way.

  • All files have been successfully validated
  • Deleting the SpaceEngineers.cfg file had no results so I restored it to not have to deal with redoing all my settings.
  • Deleting the roaming folder had no results
  • Restarting Steam has no effect
  • Reinstalling VC Redist 2017 also had no results
  • The Game has been reinstalled with no effect - Will try again just for testing purposes
  • OS is up to date

I checked out those threads shortly before posting this but I will take a look for any other possible fixes that I haven't tried.

Thank you,

Lachlan

Hello, Lachlan!

Thank you for the further information. Is this only happening with mods that you have already posted and are modifying? Does this not happen at all for simply uploading new mods?

Hello Laura,

The issue is only for a new mod I'm trying to upload, updating existing mods on the workshop works as long as the thumbnail isn't modified.

I have tried uploading my mod with alternative thumbnails including one used on another posted mod but I still get the error.

Lachlan

Hello, Lachlan!

Is this still happening on the latest version of the game?

If so, can you please supply an example of the mod you're trying to upload?

Kind Regards

Hello Laura,

It appears to be fixed as the mod has uploaded successfully.

Thank you for all the help in this matter :)
