This is still occurring. I've been having to use Save As as a work around, and Backup saves are non existent on these saves. More than 2 hours passed between Me manually saving (because I was afraid a boom was about to happen). I hit the Save button in the menu, got 'Game is already Saving'. Hit Save As.


Decided to exit out and see if it would resolve the problem, checked to see if there were any backups in the Save that was running before I did a Save As, and there were no backups in it, despite having backups set to 10. Saving (via Save As), exiting the game completely, and then re-entering seems to at least fix it temporarily.

Could you please provide us with more information regarding the issue you reported? To report a bug into our system it is necessary to have reliable steps to reproduce in order for programmers to fix it.

Actually this is the first time I have had this issue. Possibly related is the fact that when I close the game it remains running as a process, showing running in Steam, and I have to close it manually thru Task Manager. When loading the world things seem fine for a short while and then all conveyors suddenly stopped working in the sense that requested item are not being transferred automatically to say, assemblers. Construction just stops. However I can manually transfer items thru the conveyors. Also noticed that when I grind iron blocks they are destroyed but still rendered and I can pass right thru them. Autosaves stop working. Cannot manually save, 'error: game already saving', and if save on exit the game stays stuck on the menu screen. Not the start menu with the animation, the save, save as, options, main menu screen with the game in the background and I cannot go back to the game or exit the game. Must close using Task Manager. The game does save using save as or save on exit but it is not possible to continue playing without closing first. Save attached. Of importance perhaps.. the problem with the game not closing after exiting started immediately after the playtest ended... the 'already saving game' problem started yesterday.

Update: Gave it another go... autosave worked a few times and I was able to save and continue during two attempts several minutes apart however eventually.. all conveyors stopped transporting automatically, when trying to save again I get: Error game already saving (tried several times over a 10 minute period), I can 'save as' just fine, exit without saving does not work and the game freezes when I click 'no' which requires force close with task manager. Log file for the previously attached file included. I can however exit normally 'before' the problem starts just fine. I also noticed that in the log file MyAsyncSaving.InProgress: True is indicated. In older log files that I saved (before this problem started), MyAsyncSaving.InProgress: False was indicated. Not sure if this is relevant. I have also verified game files thru Steam already. Also note that after reverting from playtest that some mods stopped working altogether causing game crashes and I never encountered any issues with the game freezing or failing to stop process or with saving until after the last playtest. It is unlikely that I will ever do another playtest unless it is proven that it is unrelated to the issues that started after reversion.

Update: Did some more testing. Narrowed the issue down to Nanite Factory V2.0 mod. I realize mods are not officially supported by Keen however I must emphatically re-emphasize that this not the only mod that no longer works 'AFTER' switching version to do the playtest and back to 188.105. This process should have restored complete playability to the game however is seems obvious that some changes were left in place, perhaps dorment, after reverting. I think it would be prudent to at least inform playtest participants that the effects of changing from one version to the latest 'playtest' version and then back again could possibly render some/all of the mods installed unplayable so as not to cause potential animosity towards Keen or the playtest process. As I have said, I will definitely not be a future participant in anymore playtests and am kind of angered that my game is no longer playable as it was before being a participant. Or you fix it so that the previous game version is 100% preserved and restored correctly so that hours upon hours of playtime is not wasted when a world in rendered broken upon resuming play of said world after participating in your playtest. Maybe Im the only one, idk. I do know my game is NOT the same as it was. PS: If not for the mod community this game would not be nearly as enjoyable as it is and many would grow bored of it quickly, so maybe take more care in the future.

I am experiencing the same issue on 192.102 - game is already saving.

I also use the nanites 2.0 mod, and would hate to loose it. Funny enough my log file is 0 bytes when the game halts. Any suggestion on how to debug this?

Hello, I just started playing this wonderful game and am experiencing this same problem. I have 0 mods or scripts. it has been 2 weeks since I started and everything was fine but now my game no longer auto saves. Even when I click save it says "Error game is already saving" (but it dosnt actually save anything) This is not from just one world. its in all 4 worlds 3 are creative .I can only save by selecting save as.

This started when I crashed my ship and clicked F5 to reload to last save and it said game is already saving so I panicked and exited to avoid that save. I reloaded the game and it didnt save my crash so I was glad. But now it wont auto save not to mention I cant click F5 anymore :( I get the same message. I think I broke something?

I'm a new player, and having this same issue, same conditions.

All saves, even if I create a new scenario, same issue. No Mods, purely Vanilla space engineers

Same on my PC and laptop

Autosave will work for a while, longest after starting a new scenario, and briefly after loading an existing game. After an inconsistent time I will notice not seeing the autosave message for a while. Manually saving in the menu gives the "game is already saving" error. Using "save as" works 90% of the time, (now I switch to file explorer to verify the timestamp on the save files before force quitting).

Once I see the 'game is already saving' message, it will always freeze the screen at the pop-up menu to choose whether to save, exit or cancel whether choosing to save first or just exit.

It's not really frozen, the mouse still works. Checking the wait chain through task manager shows the following error:

Same result if I am in offline mode in steam, same on wifi and wired network.

I recently read that the Steam Cloud option is for blueprints, not save games, so I don't understand what part of the save process requires network io

It's march 12 2021 and I still have that error. Strangely only in Frostbite scenario. I can play hours on other saves without problem but here it happen constantly every few saves. There is no matter how many times I created new FB scenario it will come back. And there is no way to save normally, quick, save as or even through game exit. Only way to close game is to use Task Manager. And game autosave sometimes right after loading the world again. It's like it make save but not finished it and continue to end saving after world. When this bug happen strange anomalies happen too. LOD meshes doesn't get replace but high quality ones, f.ex.: in caverns are tunnels and I could go through LOD mesh that cluster way and see like if I clipped through map, collisions are on place just mesh don't render properly. Character can't mine, drill making noise but nothing more. Destroyed blocks are still visible, it looks like projection but with normal textures without projection effect. Finishing block that was just scaffold make it disappear. Maybe you just need junk computer to replicate it. For example laptop with CPU Intel Pentium 2x 2.2 GHz, NVIDIA 610m, 6GB of RAM, HDD disk. I'll finish that scenario, but I need to be more aware of such bug to not loose much progress.

I've been having the same, or a very similar, issue with the "Learning to Survive" scenario. It started some time after playing the game for a cumulative time of many hours. Now unless I'm diligent on using "Save As" to a slightly different save name and back to the original name every 15 to 20 minutes, eventually after an autosave I get an error message that reads "Error game is already saving" either when saving from the menu or doing a quick load with F5. The inability to save wouldn't be so bad, but totally prevents loading via the quick load and severely complicates going back to the main menu for any reason as the game gets stuck on the "Unloading world" stage. The only way I've found to get around locking up on unloading is by going to the Steam overlay and forcing the game to quit then restarting the game (usually validating the game installation just to be safe). Like the initial poster, reloading the save works for a while (e.g. usually 15 to 20 minutes, possibly about a half hour) but the lack of the ability to conveniently load the game is somewhat frustrating in offline mode.


My system is an AMD Ryzen 5 2600 six-processor 3.60 GHz with 16 GB of physical RAM running Windows 10 Pro. See the attached file for my graphics card information.
