An old unfixed bug
One of players got almost the same bug as here https://support.keenswh.com/spaceengineers/general/topic/1-187-208-direct-connect-throws-error
Perhaps the error occurred after restarting the server.

The problem was solved by connecting via Steam without a game running or after a possible character removal

I have this same exact Issue...
I have not tried the connection by joining a friend through steam yet. But we have bought and paid for this server and I am the only one who cannot connect to it or even see it. For that matter. when I go to Join servers only one server ever shows up. Never played on that server... but only one that ever shows up for me.
Experimental Mode is turned off
Firewall Exceptions have been validated
any help is great!

Attempted the connection Via a friend in steam and Connected without issue. But was kicked out of the server when they logged off...AND...when I look in the history TAB of joined servers. it is not shown there. I have also Had Steam do File Verification and Fixing already and validated I had the right version of NET framework as well.

So I resolved the Issue by Making changes at the Steam Level to Auto Log me into the Server. This Bypassed everything that was causing my issues and I never had to go through the steps as was described again. I have not ever tried logging into the server via the standard method since.
