Ships jittering/moving constantly when docked together.

Investigating

Was playing in survival when I noticed that the small grid I had docked onto my large grid ship was causing the two to constantly move and jitter around. Between 0.06m/s and 0.01m/s. Was only a small pain to deal with until they suddenly launched each other forwards into an asteroid I was next to. I wish I had a clip of it, but OBS decided that today it didn't want to work.

No pistons, Rotors, or anything else that would normally cause clang issues (that I know of), both ships were very simple hydrogen ships without moving parts.

Tested: Disabling gyros on the small grid, turning off the small grid, turning off inertial dampers on the small grid when docked, docking with only the connector, docking with only the landing gears, and docking with both connector and landing gears at the same time as well.

Sorry if this is hard to read, my brain is a little fried right now lol.

Hello Engineer,

Thank you for reaching out to us on our Support Forum.

We are aware of a similar issue and already have an internal ticket for it. However, to help us determine whether you are experiencing the same issue or a different one, we would appreciate it if you could provide either a vanilla (unmodded) world save or a blueprint of the grid where the issue occurs.

If possible, please also include the exact steps needed to reproduce the issue using the provided save or blueprint. A screen recording/video showing the issue occurring in the shared world save or blueprint would also be greatly appreciated.

  • You can access your save files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Saves. There should be a folder with your SteamID and your saves.
  • Please zip the file and attach it here. If you are having difficulty attaching files you can optionally use Google Drive. When sharing a google drive link please make sure it is set to be downloadable by anyone with the link.
  • You can access your blueprints files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Blueprints. Select the correct folder where your blueprint is saved (local or cloud), zip the file and attach it here.

Kind Regards,

Keen Software House: QA Department

Hello again, I've attached the save file here, the two grids with the issue should be right next to each other when loading into it. Sorry for forgetting to mention it in the original post, but there were never any mods loaded on this save file, it was 100% vanilla.

Steps to reproduce bug/issue:

1- get into the cockpit of the small grid

2- land on the landing pad of the large grid, connect the connector and landing gears with P

3- if you don't spot the speedometer already freaking out, exit cockpit and stand on the large grid. Weirdly in my testing the speedometer is more sensitive when not in a cockpit. (if still unsure, check the Hydrogen tanks on the large grid after setting the tanks on the small grid to stockpile. They will continue to drain slightly even after the small grids tanks are refilled due to the large grids inertial dampers firing the thrusters slightly with the jittering.)

It seems to be a little inconsistent, but I got it to happen 8 out of 10 tests. Sometimes I just had to wait as well.

As for the giant jolt I mentioned that threw the two into an asteroid, I have been messing with it for 45-ish minutes and haven't been able to reproduce the bug, sorry. I'll continue playing on the file after I send this and if I figure it out I'll send another reply your way. But to recap what I was doing when it first happened, I was loading ice into the large grid from the cockpit of the small grid. While I was in the inventory UI moving things around, the two suddenly jolted forwards like something rammed into the side of the large grid.

I also can't seem to get OBS to work at the moment, so I can't provide a video of the issue, sorry. I think a windows update messed with something that I don't have the brain power to figure out at the moment.

Hope something from this reply helps, sorry for the lack of information in the original post.

I have also been getting reports of this and had a save sent to me which I verified this behavior on. Its also capable of causing damage to ships attached via connector. It is a LG free floating non-static station with a SG ship connected. The user showed me a video of the ship suddenly bursting into flames on one of the small jitters. I can provide another save if you need another one to cross reference OP's with
