Random Damage from Base Proximity & Ship Proximity ~ w Video

Need More Information

This issue happens off and on... sometimes my base (Large Grid) deals me damage, sometimes a ship. If I close the helmet ~ no more damage. Save and restart, sometimes the damage persists - sometimes it's over with. I wish I could show you guys a longer recording.

I think you get the gist of it. There is no vent on this Small Grid, but interaction with I Beams and some Conveyor/Cargo containers deals damage... for no reason at all; only when the visor is open. Either standing on or beneath, within the ship sphere of influence; strangely not when on Large Cargo Containers on that Small Grid.

Again, same thing randomly happens with my Large Grid base.

I've Verified the Integrity of my files on Steam, no issues found.

In the video, cut from a larger video of troubleshooting the issue, you see me dealing damage in proximity to parts of the ship I am building; for no reason at all. When I close the Visor, no more damage.

Hello, Brandon,

thank you for reaching our forum with this problem that you are experiencing.

Thank you for providing the save file.

But I was not able to reproduce the problem there, really.

My character didn't receive any damage no matter where I was. Can you maybe think of some steps to reproduce that are triggering this problem?

However, we have another issue that sounds similar to yours. Can you please take a look and let me know if this seems same to you as well? Or is there something specifically different when this problem is happening on your side?

Please see the thread here:

https://support.keenswh.com/spaceengineers/pc/topic/pressurization-issue-oxygen-state-around-ship-doesnt-update

As you can read there, ship and it´s vicinity is maintaining the previous level of oxygen (full from Earth/none from space) even when in the other environment.

Are there also some travels from and to the space like in the other thread?

If you have a feeling that it is different, please try to specify how and ideally provide steps to reproduce/video that I can follow.

Thank you in advance.

Kind Regards

After some thought:

It is possible that it is the same issue ~ of previous oxygen level ~ that Grids (Small and Large) are maintaining a Weather State after storms even if going into orbit. In my example, storms may have affixed a low oxygen environment around Grids because I am on Pertam and storms have low oxygen (or other impacts which cause damage) which caused damage to me whenever my helmet was open near them after the storms because of that continuing effect.

In the same manner... that the ship in that other Ticket may have been maintaining an atmospheric state after leaving atmosphere ~ if it is the same issue it may have been because of exposure to a storm before leaving atmosphere. Though in that example, a storm on a higher oxygen world may have caused the Grid to retain a higher oxygen state; negating what would be damage in space due to vacuum.

In my video, it seemed to me that Armor Blocks and I-Beams were doing this. I stood atop the Large Cargo Container in the middle of my ship with no damage, but jumping down a little to the Medium Cargo Containers put me closer (within 1 Large Block away) to the I-Beams and Armor at the bottom of my ship being built... and being under the ship also had me similarly near them. It seems the area of effect is 1 Large Block in size larger than the height and width and length of the Armor Blocks on a Grid, no matter if a small or large Grid; after weather events.

Not in my video, the same was happening with my Large Grid base; in a previous gaming session. I could fly above my base, whenever at or below the tallest Block and above other Blocks of my base ~ damage occurred; beside my base within 1 Block damage also occurred. I was able to extend the base with new Blocks, the effect followed their addition - but when I severed the new Blocks from the base... the effect left those new Blocks.

This has me thinking it's Armor Blocks and I-Beams retaining an atmospheric attribute from storm events, as you suggested is possibly similar to what that other Ticket found. The only thing I can think of that would reproduce the effect - is weather; frequent on Pertam... frequent enough for me to have overlooked their relation to the bug's appearance for me.
