Can't save custom games

Solved

Hi,

Quick update to my previous ticket. I can't save custom games. I've played and saved multiple games, but I cannot access them from the load screen. When I access the load screen everything is greyed out. I've reinstated Space Engineers, tried using a new profile, verified the files, but no matter what I can't access my saved games. I can only continue my last game. I tried saving the game while playing and giving the save a new name, but it never shows up under the load screen. I can see the new save from Windows Explorer, but I cannot access the saves from within the game. Please help

Hello, richard,

thank you for opening the thread again since you are still experiencing this.

Can you please provide me more information?

Can you confirm that you did everything that was suggested in the previous thread: This includes:

  • Verify your game files in Steam – right-click on Space Engineers in Steam Library → Properties → Installed Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files
  • Delete SpaceEngineers.cfg file (it means your game configuration will be deleted) – you can access your SpaceEngineers.cfg by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.
  • Delete ShaderCache folder – same access as above
  • Back up your whole Space Engineers Roaming folder and delete it
  • Restart Steam
  • Reinstall VC Redist 2017
  • Update graphic drivers
  • Reinstall the game
  • Make sure your operating system is fully updated

If you did all of these and are still experiencing this problem, can you please share me the screenshot of the folder where you have the saves stored (type %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers/Saves/{your Steam ID number}).

Also please share me a screenshot from the actual game Main menu – Load game.

You are mentioning "custom games". Does that mean that you are able to save and load scenarios worlds correctly?

Are the game and the saves located on the same drive?

Are you able to connect to multiplayer games (Main menu – Join game) and play there properly?

Are you using any mods on the saves?

Are you able to click on the saves game's name/try to load it at all? Or what exactly is happening in the game when you try? Is there any kind of error?

Can you please provide me a log from your game session?

You can access your log files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.

Thank you in advance.

Kind Regards

I can confirm I did everything listed in your email. Attached is the screenshot of the saves folder in the path you specified.  My answers to your questions are below in red.

Hello, richard,

thank you for all the additional information.

From viewing your log, I can see that the game is trying to use the path "...FSBOS1\FolderRedirect$...". Can you please tell me what that is?

Are you using any kind of cloud, offline environment, virtual machine... ? Can you please try to install the game locally on you PC?

I would really need to know what kind of OS/environment/machine are you using and how and from where you are trying to play the game.

Are you sure you are having the Steam in the Online mode and you are properly connected to the internet, when trying to load these saves?

Can you please try to launch the game, and:

1) start any of the game from the Scenarios section. After the initial loading of the world, try to save the game with both options – "Save" and "Save as". Let me know what is happening after that. Is there HUD message in the game about the save being saved properly? Or this text is not present? Or is there any other text?

2) Do the same for any of worlds from the Custom games category.

Now you should have 4 saves saved on your local disc. Please go check the saves in the Roaming folder. After you follow "\Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Saves" , there should be a folder with your SteamID (as on your image). In this folder, all the saves (including those that you saved just now) should be present there. Can you confirm that the saves are stored there in this exact folder, that the game is trying to use for loading?

Thank you.

I have roaming profiles set up in my environment, so my Windows user profile is stored on a network share. That appears to be the issue. I created a new account without a roaming profile enabled and can now save custom games. Under the new profile, I could copy all my saved games from my old profile, and now I can access all my saved games.

I'm good, thank you for your help
