Merge Blocks causing Game crash

HotShotTacoYT shared this bug 9 months ago
Won't Fix

Hello KSH,

I have an issue when i connect/release merge blocks both small and large grid. I tried clearing the the config and cache, starting a new world in both creative and survival, building the ships from scratch again but everytime i connect or release the merge blocks the game crashes and says the "graphic drivers has crashed". Also happened after trying it with new nvidia drivers. Can you help me? It takes the fun from building complex ships away :/

Best regards

Mr. Müller

Hello, engineer!

Thank you for writing to us, and we are sorry to hear you're experiencing this issue.

Could you kindly share further information concerning this issue?

Does the world have active MODs where you have experienced game crash? If there were active MODs (or you have a plugin active in the game), please disable them or either start a new vanilla world (with no active MODs or Plugin) and check if the game crashes there as well. If the issue still persists, try the following workaround ;

Verify your game files in Steam:

  • Right-click on Space Engineers in the Steam Library → Properties → Installed Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files

Please also ensure if your graphics drivers and OS are up to date. Start the game and check if the issue occurs.

If the issue still happens, kindly send us the latest log file from when the game crash occurred.

  • You can access your log files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.

Kind regards,

Hello, HotShotTacoYT,

thank you for the logs. I noticed a couple of exceptions in it. I would like to test the behavior as well to rule out the cause of the crash. Can you please share the affected world save with me?

  • You can access your save files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Saves. There should be a folder with your SteamID and your saves.
  • Please zip the file and attach it here. If you are having difficulty attaching files you can optionally use Google Drive. When sharing a google drive link please make sure it is set to be downloadable by anyone with the link.

Thank you in advance.

Hello, HotShotTacoYT,

thank you for the save file. I tried to disconnect the merge blocks several times but no crash occurred. It seems the problem might be hardware related.

Can you please try the following:

  1. Update Graphics Drivers: You have mentioned that you tried it with new graphic card as well but I am not sure if you have updated it. Ensure you have the latest graphics drivers installed for your graphics card.
  2. Graphics Settings: Try lowering your graphics settings within the game. This can help reduce the strain on your graphics card and potentially prevent driver crashes. You can experiment with different settings to find a combination that works without crashing.
  3. Check for Overheating: Monitor your GPU temperature while playing. Overheating can cause graphics driver crashes.
  4. Verify Game Files: Right click on Space Engineers in Steam Library → Properties → Installed Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files
  5. Roll Back Graphics Drivers: If the issue started after updating your graphics drivers, you might want to try rolling back to a previous version that was stable for you.
  6. Update Windows: Ensure your operating system is up to date. Sometimes, compatibility issues can arise due to outdated OS components.

Please let me know if any of the above helped. Thank you in advance.
